``STRUCTURE The Giulia is the first in line to use a modular designed platform. Other future Alfa Romeo vehicles will be built on revised versions of this platform. The B Post Reinforcement is a tailored laser welded blank made from Press Hardened Steel (PHS) and High Strength Steel (HSS); the Sill Reinforcement is roll formed Ultra High Strength Steel (UHSS) >1000 MPa. Press Hardened Steel is also used for the rear chassis legs, stiffeners for the transmission tunnel, and a brace for the bulkhead. The Giulia uses a laminate of two steel layers with a viscoelastic layer for the bulkhead and transmission tunnel to further reduce road noise. There is a thermoplastic section within the boot floor for electrical system and battery mounting. The doors, bonnet, front wings are all 5000 and 6000 series sheet aluminium and the front inner wing strut turrets are cast aluminium. The roof, rear quarters, and boot lid are all of mild steel. 2
The Quadrifoglio version utilises six different Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) technologies: 1. Autoclave for the roof panel and front splitter 2. Compression Moulding for the rear spoiler 3. Filament Winding for the propshaft 4. Carbon Sheet Moulding Compound SMC for underbody shielding 5. Press PrePreg bonnet inner 6. Vacuum Forming bonnet outer It also has the option of carbon fibre front seat frames and carbon ceramic brake discs. 3
``ADVANCED DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS (ADAS) Forward Collision Warning (FCW) with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) the system utilises the windscreen mounted camera and the front radar to detect vehicles, objects, or pedestrians in the road ahead. If a vehicle, object or pedestrian is detected, the system will audibly and visually warn the driver. If the driver fails to react, the system will automatically apply the brakes and slow the vehicle, bringing it to a controlled stop if necessary. Lane Departure Warning (LDW) utilises a windscreen mounted camera to recognise road lane markings. If the system detects the vehicle moving out of lane without indication it will alert the driver with audible and visual warnings. Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) - utilises two radar sensors located, one each side, behind the rear bumper, to continually monitor the blind spots on both sides of the vehicle. If a vehicle or object is identified within the blind spot a warning lamp is illuminated in the relevant sided door mirror. Rear Cross-Path Detection the system monitors the area behind the vehicle whilst reversing. At speeds lower than 22 mph it will signal the approach of vehicles emerging at right angles. Integrated Braking System (IBS) an electromechanical device combining the functionality of the braking and stability control systems. The system eliminates any vibration from the ABS and can bring the vehicle from 62mph to a standstill in 38.5 metres. 4
``TECHNOLOGY Alfa Active Suspension the system dynamically adjusts the suspension response depending on the driving conditions and the settings on the Alfa DNA. Alfa DNA interacting with the Alfa Active Suspension, the shock absorbers adapt to the selected driving style: D Dynamic N Natural A Advanced Efficiency Alfa Link Suspension an all aluminium suspension consisting of a front double wishbone system with a semi-virtual steering axis which keeps the wheel perfectly perpendicular with the road. The rear is a four and a half arm multilink system designed to give the optimum lateral grip whilst still achieving a comfortable ride. Chassis Domain Control (CDC) (Quadrifoglio) the system controls all of the vehicles onboard systems to optimise performance, safety and driving pleasure. It does this by automatically adapting the settings of the powertrain, suspension, active splitter, braking system, power steering, ESC system and the rear differential torque vectoring according to the demands of the driver and the settings of the Alfa DNA Pro. 5
