Design. R 1200 R FL Further highlights of enhanced value include the new colour scheme for the drive train, telelever, cylinder head covers, rims, and fork clamps in Nürburg silver or mat metallic granite grey. Drivetrain. As the third and therefore latest model in the Boxer family, the R 1200 R Fl is fitted with the established DOHC engine now familiar from the GS and RT. Slight increases in power and torque values provide for even greater mastery in all riding situations and even more dynamics for a sporty style. A fitting complement takes the form of the revised exhaust system now fitted with a flap. With a throaty, sonorous sound for an unfailingly pleasant sensation in all riding situations, the R 1200 R FL is now drawing attention to its acoustic talents as well, to the 60 mm shorter rear silencer as an emphatic stroke under the overall compact impression of this vehicle. In addition, the chrome plated manifold now fitted as standard represents a rise in value. All in all, the new drive is a 100% compelling sum of facets that promises a perceptible boost to riding fun and that for riders of all skills and in all situations.
Suspension and frame. The suspension of the R 1200 R FL presents components that have established themselves and are familiar from the current model: the front wheel suspension takes the form of the telelever, and the rear wheel is guided by the paralever. In this connection, the highlight is the new built front fork on the front wheel, which not only presents greater visual appeal and value, but also provides a perceptible boost to performance. The visual impression is primarily the contribution of the machined fixed tubes of enlarged 41 mm diameter that together with the new fork clamps and bridge lend this roadster the characteristic compact and muscular look. All in all, the built front fork is more rigid, for greater steering precision and running accuracy. For all customers wanting a higher level of performance on top, ESA continues to be available as optional equipment. Body work and ergonomics. The main changes to the body work and ergonomics can be found at the headlamp, rear, and seat. The new headlamp cover and the new headlamp side sections together with the modified colour scheme all serve to make the head of the R 1200 R FL appear more compact. With the new, aesthetic passenger grab handles, the retaining strap is no longer a necessity, and the rear experiences a considerable boost to value as a result. For enhanced seat comfort, the optional comfort seat will be adopted in a slightly modified form as standard equipment. For customers that want to retain the leaner lines of the previous standard seat, this will continue to be available as the optional equipment sports seat. Electrical system. An additional highlight of the facelift can be found in the electrical system: a plain, symmetrical cockpit with double round instruments for engine and road speed replaces the high tech look of the previous instrument panel. The key accessories. Akrapović sports silencer Adapted to the revised (DOHC) engine, the Akrapović sports silencer is made completely of titanium and lends the vehicle a more sporty look. A product of the highest level of craftsmanship, this slip-on silencer is characterised in particular by a throaty sound and a low weight. The weight savings compared with the standard rear silencer is about 2.0 kg. The rear section is designed with a single channel. Aluminium cylinder head cover guard Made of aluminium, this guard provides not only extensive protection for the cylinder head cover, but also the optimal emphasis for the design and lines of the flat twin engine.
The key accessories. Chrome cylinder head cover Sporting a high quality chrome surface, the cylinder head cover boosts the individual visual appeal and refinement of the vehicle. Tank bag A new development, the tank bag provides a watertight, adjustable main compartment of 10 + 2 litre capacity and a functional, water repellent map pocket with patented tray for mobile phones and other devices. The water repellent outer pocket provides a safe place for two conventional PET bottles. The tank bag is secured at the front and back with stable locking bars.
