Adsorbed Natural Gas (ANG) Technology Barry Rowton
Methane Flaring and Leakage Source: NASA satellite image that shows the natural gas flaring from the USA at night Estimated that over 1 trillion cubic feet of natural gas is being flared each year. That is over 7.8 billion GGEs of natural gas. Regulations are being put in place to stop flaring. Where is that gas going to go? Estimated that 1.6 trillion cubic feet of biogas is vented each year. That is over 12.6 billion GGEs wasted annually. Not including biogas not captured. ANG can capture this gas go be used in vehicles and for other energy uses.
ProblemProblem that could not be solved Gas Storage Capacity Limits High Pressure Fill Line 3600 psi UNMATCHED Low pressure business and household gas supply lines.25-2 psi <5 mins for a 20 gal equiv tank at 3,600 psi Application based: <0.5 gallon/hr 8/9 gal/min Cost: $45,000 -- $1,800,000 Cost: $7,500 -- $850,000 * Source: U.S. Department of Energy Alternative Fuels Data Center Ford Motor Company Executive, conformable tanks are needed for natural gas vehicles and to have conformable tanks you need to have low pressure and to have low pressure you need to use adsorbents.

ANG Storage in Vehicles 2016 Ford XLT, 5.0 liter, Super- Cab 4 4 with Gaseous Fuel Prep package. Converted with a Cenergy Solutions Bi-fuel ANG conversion system. It is sporting the world s first conformable ANG tank (145 liters) which fits behind the cab. The tank is rectangular shaped due to the low pressure and it takes much less bed space than the same size cylindrical tank. This conformable tank can fit in trucks, under vehicles and behind the cab of trucks. GM Suburban, 8.1 liter. This vehicle had two 207 liter ANG tanks and drove over 20,000 miles on ANG. It performed as well with ANG as it did with CNG (non-ang) tanks! These ANG vehicles were tested in many conditions including high altitudes, heavy payloads and in varied temperatures. This vehicle was outfitted with Cenergy Solutions bi-fuel system that works at low pressures to facilitate the unique characteristics of storage storing gas with adsorbents. Honda Civic, 1.9 liter OEM CNG. This car was outfitted with an 100 liter ANG cylinder the same size as the OEM s original tank. With the ANG tank, it can be filled to a much lower pressure and still get the driving range needed to operate in normal driving situations. Testing is in progress to determine the full benefits of operating this vehicle on low pressures in the ANG tank.
