Research and Investment Forecast of China Automotive Aluminum Wheel Industry, 2014-2018 (Sample) Huidian Research Publication Date: Feb 2014
5. Market Supply and Demand of China s Automotive Aluminum Wheel Industry 5.1 Supply and Forecast 5.1.2 China s Automotive Aluminum Wheel Output, 2008-2013 Wang Xiaodong, the deputy secretary general of Wheel Committee of China Association of Automobile Manufactures (CAAM), says that as of the end of 2012, the production capacity of China s aluminum wheels was close 180 million units and the sales volume exceeded 125 million units with the utilization rate of production capacity of over 70%. The sales volume included the domestic sales of about 5 million units, export volume of more than 60 million units and domestic OEM automotive use volume of about 60 million units. Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Hebei, Shandong, Guangdong and Shanghai have a large production capacity of aluminum wheels in China with the ratio of nearly 80%. The annual output of China s automotive aluminum wheel industry from 2008 to 2013 was as follows: Fig.17 Annual Output Growth of China s Automotive Aluminum Wheel Industry, 2008-2012 Source: Wheel Commission of CAAM (2008-2012 data); Huidian Research (data 2013) Though automobile industry developed late in China, aluminum wheel develops rapidly. Taking SAIC as an example, steel wheels installation ratio was only 30%; 1/5 limousine was installed with steel wheels; 4/5 limousine was installed with aluminum
wheel. In terms of the entire automotive industry s matching level, aluminum wheel installation ratio increased from 18% in 1995 to 55% in 2005; it increased rapidly especially in limousine market. Aluminum wheel installation ratio has reached to more than 75%; non-aluminum wheel has become the option. At present, China s aluminum wheel market is mainly concentrated in the Shanghai Volkswagen, FAW-Volkswagen, Dongfeng Motor, Guangzhou Honda and Changan Automobile; OEM market is the main body. China s automobile installed with aluminum wheel include limousine (more than 75% of installation ratio), mini bus (60% installation ratio), light bus (40% installation ratio in large vans and off-road vehicles), in small van (20% installation ratio). In terms of automotive type, medium and high-end limousine, micro-van, pickup truck, medium-sized van, and jeep have been installed with aluminum wheel. In terms of production, during 2008-2013, the total output of China s automotive aluminum wheels was respectively 79.83 million units, 81.61 million units, 111.41 million units, 119.64 million units, 126.97 million units and 148.29 million units, with the Year-on-Year growth of 2.23%, 36.52%, 7.39%, 6.13% and 16.79% compared with the previous year over the same period. Due to the impact of the international financial crisis, the global automobile production fell sharply in 2008; the domestic aluminum wheel production also significantly decreased in the same period. After the international financial crisis, the domestic aluminum wheel production rebounded sharply in 2009. By 2013, China s aluminum wheel output reached 148.29 million units, far beyond the level before the financial crisis. Seen from the domestic aluminum wheel output trend, based on aluminum wheel quality characteristics and global automobile ownership increasing, China s aluminum wheel output will keep the rising trend in the future.
