ABB is here to help An Auckland power station experienced ongoing vibrations on a steam turbine. ABB was contacted and after monitoring the vibration levels and analysing the results, ABB engineers pinpointed the cause as oil whirl formation in the journal bearing. ABB recommended modifications be made to the bearing support. These were carried out and as a result the vibration problem was eliminated.
