Wind Turbine System A wind turbine is using aerodynamic effect to rotate blades and transform wind into mechanical energy, the mechanical energy then transformed into electric power through generator. The modernized wind turbine can achieve power conversion efficiency between 20-40%. Unlike those large commercial wind turbines, small wind turbines have been widely used to provide distributed power for a variety of applications around the world, such as on- or off-grid residences, telecommunication systems, street lighting systems, remote monitoring systems and other purposes that require energy where there is no electric grid, or where the grid is unstable. Vertical Axis Wind Turbine The axis of blade rotation is vertical to the wind direction which called vertical-axis wind turbine (VAWT). On the other hand, the axis of blade rotation is parallel to the wind direction, which called the horizontal-axis wind turbine (HAWT). The wind direction is essentially parallel to the land surface, so it also is used by blade rotation axis vertical or parallel to ground to identify the type of wind turbine. In general, vertical-axis wind turbine is slower-rotation, lower noise and the power coefficient is smaller, the range of value is about 0.25 to 0.3. Horizontal-axis wind turbine is faster-rotation, higher noise and the power coefficient is larger, the range of value is about 0.3 to 0.35. our Vertical Axis wind turbines are highly efficient types and their power coefficient are about 0.3. It have the advantages of high efficiency and low noise.
