Meeting Purpose and Format Meeting Purpose and Format The purpose of tonight s meeting is to: Provide a final update on construction activity in the City of Santa Monica Review train testing activities and schedule Learn about plans for system start up and transit safety education The format will include a short presentation followed by a Question and Answer session regarding: Train Testing Safety Education Light Rail Operations
Expo Line Project Description Phase 2 Expo Line from Culver City to Santa Monica 6.6 mile corridor 7 new Stations 64,000 Daily Riders by 2030 Estimated Travel Time (Downtown LA to Santa Monica): 46 minutes Estimated Cost: $1.5 billion Project is 90% complete Major construction started in 2012

Bikeway and Maintenance Facility Expo Bikeway Construction Ongoing grading, paving, and electrical work Installation of light poles Construction to be completed this summer Maintenance Facility On-going site paving Track installation for the yard has been completed Installation of traction power system is in process Landscaping and irrigation installation will start in September Bike Path Paving West of Westwood Maintenance Facility Progress
Train Testing Schedule Expo Line Train Testing Activities Train Testing activities include: Clearance testing Verification of train control, OCS, communications, and grade crossing equipment Train/traffic interface Testing Schedule: Venice Boulevard to Military Avenue Ongoing Military Avenue to Centinela Avenue July 2015 Centinela Avenue to 4 th Street August 2015 Clearance Testing at the I-10 Box Once all contractor required testing is completed, the system will be turned over to Metro for Pre-Revenue Operations Train Testing at Bagley Crossing
Metro Pre-Revenue Testing Pre-Revenue Testing Trains will be operated on a regular schedule ahead of revenue service Purpose of pre-revenue testing: To familiarize the PUBLIC with the new light rail service To allow OUTSIDE AGENCIES to interface with the train before it opens To train METRO EMPLOYEES on the Expo Line extension Typical testing hours: At various times from approximately 4:30 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. 7 days a week
Transit Safety Programs Metro Transit Safety: Education Metro Safety Information provided at local Community Events Rail Safety Presentations conducted at schools, recreation/senior centers, libraries, businesses, Neighborhood Councils, religious centers
Metro Transit Safety: Education Rail Safety Ambassadors Retired Metro bus and rail operators Assigned to various rail crossings Assists pedestrians with safe passage across train tracks Meet weekly with Metro to report observations
Metro Transit Safety: Enforcement Metro Sheriffs General safety oversight during train testing Traffic enforcement along rail right-of-way Issue warnings/citations to pedestrians that jaywalk or trespass on the ROW Fare enforcement on station platforms and on trains during operations
