Cargo Handling Requirements: Prepurging of Vessel s Tanks: Pre-purge Oxygen Content: Pre-purge Dew Point: Blanket Required: Percent Oxygen in Nitrogen Blanket: Vapor Space Purge: Loading Temperature Range: Transit Temperature Range: Discharge Temperature Range: Maximum Heating Coil Temperature: N/A N/A Refer charter party and notes below. If required, see notes below. (optimum range 6% - 8% O2) Blanked Off Adjacent Maximum Cargo Temperature: 35 deg C. tes: 1. Check Charter Party reference nitrogen requirements for products with flash point < 60 deg C. 2. Nitrogen Blanket: Ref MSC/Circ 879, and MEPC/circ340. Inerting of tanks is not required by regulation in tanks of less than 3000m3. Tanks greater than 3000m3 will have to be in inert condition after loading and are required to remain inerted. Oxygen content must be maintained between 6% and 8 whereby only Nitrogen is allowed as inerting medium. 3. If tanks are inerted and Carrier chooses to transship, carrier must reapply nitrogen blanket on the cargo, both on the discharging and receiving ship, at their time, risk, and expense. 4. Venting Systems; IBC Code 15.13.6. Venting systems should be of a design that eliminates blockage from polymer build-up. Venting systems should be of a type that can be checked periodically for adequacy of operation. Interpretation; Internal obstructions should be avoided beyond the requirement for pressure vacuum valves and flame screens which should be accessible for inspection and maintenance. Regional Requirements: Inhibitor; Par-tertuary Butyl Catechol (PTBC). Typically 10 20 ppm. Europe: When loading at Shell Moerdijk and temperature in Shore tank is >21 0 C ships tanks will have pre-purged to 6-10% O2 content 3
Tank Size Requirements: The following conditions must be observed. On completion of loading and taking product samples, the vapor space is checked to ensure that the oxygen level is within acceptable levels as stated above. During the voyage, the vapor space content is to be monitored and recorded twice a day, at least eight hours apart. Temperature and pressure readings of the cargo tanks are monitored and recorded twice a day, at least eight hours apart. Tank Acceptance Requirements: All shore and ship cargo lines and tanks are to be presented clean (residual free), dry, odor free, and rust free, with good gaskets and pressure tested heating coils. Heating coils to be blown clear with nitrogen Stainless Steel or Coated Tanks: Wall Wash Required: Wash Requirements: Coated. Carrier to verify suitability of coating for product. Tanks to be in very good condition with minimal blistering or breakdown. All blisters to be scraped to hard coating. All defects to be noted by the surveyor. Pipelines and fittings to be of stainless steel. Yes, for benzene and benzene related products. Hydrocarbons = Pass Chlorides = 20 ppm Acid test = <5 Previous products: tes: Stainless steel tanks with previous cargo of benzene, or mixture containing benzene:- Shell Chemicals MTA must be consulted before loading. tes: Coated tanks, including Marineline and similar polymer coatings, cannot be used for styrene if benzene, mixtures containing => 0.1% benzene, caustic, fuel or lube oils, were one of the prior two cargoes. 4
