For the more demanding vertical machining applications, we offer a full range of High- Performance XP 3 VMCs. Whatever the manufacturing challenge you face today, or in the future from one-off and small series part production right through to medium-to-high volume manufacture the new Performance P 3 range can be relied upon to deliver. Powerful, heavy-duty spindles, rapid rates of up to 1,890ipm, a choice of Fanuc or Siemens control combined with automatic tool change capability all contained within the machines rigid C- frame cast iron construction, are destined to make the VMC P 3 range the number one choice for mold tool and die manufacturers and precision engineers working in the automotive, aerospace, medical and general engineering sectors. 2 MANCE P 3 SERIES VMCS AND DRILL/TAP MACHINES ing hand All machines in the P 3 VMC range (480, 600, 800, 1000, 1250, and 1500) and the Drill/Tap (480) model are built using FEA (Finite Element Analysis) techniques. As such the machines are robust and structurally-balanced, providing excellent rigidity and thermal and mechanical stability all resulting in improved accuracy, finish and tool life. The machines are all C-frame fixed column type machines, displaying a wide stance and low center of gravity for enhanced absorption of cutting forces. This design, in addition to the P 3 s high-quality cast iron construction (spindle carrier, column and base), pre-tensioned ball screws and ultra-durable guideways deliver outstanding machining performance where and when it matters most. To enable you to get down to business fast and help reduce cycle times, the VMCs have a rapid traverse of 1,181ipm on all axes (1,418ipm on VMC480). Automatic tool change capability is from 16 tool carousel to 24/32 side mounted or 40 tool capacity depending on ATC configuration. Hardinge-Bridgeport s P 3 machines are equipped with the very latest spindle technology. All machines in the range have 4 angular contact bearings in the front and 1 rear roller bearing that optimize thermal stability and provide extra axial and radial stiffness. This design not only ensures long spindle life, it also provides consistently high levels of performance specifically in terms of contour accuracy and surface finish. The VMC P 3 range is equipped with a spindle power range from 5.5kW/7.5hp up to 18.5kW/25hp. The standard machines are equipped with a belt-driven spindle for general purpose machining. For high-speed machining operations, a 15,000-rpm belt-driven spindle can be supplied on 600, 800, 1000, 1250 and 1500P 3 models (standard 15,000-rpm direct drive spindle on the DT480P 3 ); for heavy-duty, high metal removal machining, an 8,000rpm high-torque spindle with 2-speed ZF planetary gearbox is available. All VMC spindles are specified with CAT-V-40 or BT-40 capability that can be supplied as an option. A GE Fanuc 0i-MC control is standard on all P 3 machines (Siemens control option on 600, 800, 1000, 1250, and 1500P 3 ). Both controls provide the very best in ergonomics, are user-friendly and feature short block processing speeds and great look-ahead functionality. To ensure trouble-free machining, our VMCs (600, 800, 1000, 1250, and 1500) are equipped with chip and coolant management systems. Coolant flow is directed via 5 adjustable ports in the spindle face that deliver 10.5gpm/ 40L/min to the cutting area.

3 Four of a kind VMC480, 600, VMC P 3 machines are a perfect match for any manufacturing operation this includes our new entry-level VMC480P 3, as well as the 600, 800 and 1000P 3 models that offer high-speed and hightorque spindle drive options. The Fanuc 0i-MC control is standard. Depending on requirements and individual preference, the 600, 800, and 1000P 3 models can be equipped with a Siemens 810D control. The machines are suited to a variety of manufacturing work general purpose machining, heavy ferrous machining, high-speed non-ferrous machining and complex 3D profiling. To reduce the effects of heat generation and thermal growth, both machines are equipped with pre-tensioned 45mm diameter ball screws with multiple linear guides and truck combinations 4 guideways with 8 trucks on the Y axis and 2 guideways with 6 trucks on the X axis.
