ONVEHICLE INSPECTION IGNITION (5VZFE) and in these sentences express the temperature of the coils themselves. is from 10 C (14 F) to 50 C (122 F) and is from 50 C (122 F) to 100 C (212 F). 1. INSPECT IGNITOR AND SPARK TEST (a) Disconnect hightension cords from spark plug. (b) Remove the spark plug. (c) Install the spark plug to each hightension cord. (d) Ground the spark plug. (e) Check if spark occurs while engine is being cranked. To prevent excess fuel being injected from the injectors during this test, do not crank the engine for more 5 10 seconds at a time. If the spark does not occur, do the test as follows: IG1 IG0FB01 SPARK TEST NO CHECK CONNECTION OF IGNITION COIL AND IGNITER CHECK RESISTANCE OF HIGHTENSION CORD (See step 2) Maximum resistance: 25 kω per cord CHECK POWER SUPPLY TO IGNITION COIL AND IGNITER 1. Turn ignition switch to ON. 2. Check that there is battery voltage at ignition coil positive (+) terminal. CHECK RESISTANSE OF IGNITION COIL (See step 4) Primary 0.67 1.05 kω 0.85 1.23 kω Secondary 9.3 16.0 kω 11.7 18.8 kω CHECK RESISTANSE OF CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (See step 5) 835 1,400 Ω 1,060 1,645 Ω CHECK RESISTANSE OF CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (See step 6) 1,630 2,740 Ω 2,065 3,225 Ω CHECK IGT SIGNAL FROM ECM (See page DI254 ) TRY ANOTHER IGNITER Connect securely. Replace the cord(s). Check wiring between ignition switch to ignition coil and igniter. Replace ignition coil. Replace sensor. Replace sensor. Check wiring between ECM, and igniter, and then try another ECM. 1374

IG2 IGNITION (5VZFE) WRONG CORRECT 2. INSPECT HIGHTENSION CORDS (a) Remove the air cleaner hose. (b) Disconnect the hightension cords at the rubber boot. Do not pull on the hightension cords. Pulling on or bending the cords may damage the conductor inside. S02423 (c) Using an ohmmeter, measure the hightension cord resistance. Maximum resistance: 25 kω per cord If the resistance is greater than maximum, check the terminals. If necessary, replace the hightension cord. P20439 (d) Reconnect and install the hightension cords as shown in the illustration. S02125 1375

IGNITION (5VZFE) IG3 16 mm Plug Wrench 3. INSPECT SPARK PLUGS (a) Disconnect the 3 hightension cords. (b) Remove the 3 ignition coils. (c) Using a 16 mm plug wrench, remove the 6 spark plugs. P20430 (d) Clean the spark plugs. If the electrode has traces of wet carbon, allow it to dry and then clean with a spark plug cleaner. Air pressure: Below 588 kpa (6 kgf/cm 2, 85 psi) Duration: 20 seconds or less HINT: If there are traces of oil, remove it with gasoline before using the spark plug cleaner. IG0152 (e) Visually check the spark plug for thread damage and insulator damage. If abnormal, replace the spark plug. Recommended spark plug: DENSO made NGK made K16TR11 BKR5EKB11 P20433 P20584 (f) Adjust the electrode gap. Carefully bend the outer electrode to obtain the correct electrode gap. Correct electrode gap: 1.1 mm (0.043 in.) (g) Using a 16 mm plug wrench, reinstall the spark plugs. Torque: 18 N m (180 kgf cm, 13 ft lbf) (h) Reinstall the 3 ignition coils. (i) Reconnect the 3 hightension cords. 4. INSPECT IGNITION COIL (a) Remove the air cleaner hose. (b) Disconnect the hightension cords and ignition coil connectors from the ignition coils. 1376

IG4 IGNITION (5VZFE) (c) Inspect the primary coil resistance. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the positive (+) and negative () terminals. Primary coil resistance: P20579 0.67 1.05 kω 0.85 1.23 kω If the resistance is not as specified, replace the ignition coil. (d) Remove the ignition coils. (e) Inspect the secondary coil resistance. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the positive (+) and hightension terminals. Secondary coil resistance: P21135 9.3 16.0 kω 11.7 18.8 kω If the resistance is not as specified, replace the ignition coil. (f) Reinstall the ignition coils. (g) Reconnect the ignition coil connectors and the hightension cords. (h) Reinstall the air cleaner hose. P20436 5. INSPECT CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (a) Disconnect the sensor connector. (b) Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals. 835 1,400 Ω 1,060 1,645 Ω If the resistance is not as specified, replace the sensor. (See page IG9 ) (c) Reconnect the camshaft position sensor connector. 1377

IGNITION (5VZFE) IG5 6. INSPECT CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (a) Remove the sensor connector. (See page IG10 ) (b) Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals. 1,630 2,740 Ω P20431 (c) Reinstall the sensor. 2,065 3,225 Ω 1378
