Page 9 of 17 a. Turn the wiper switch to INT position. b. Turn the intermittent time control switch to FAST position. c. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 16 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 2. d. Connect the positive (+) lead from the voltmeter to terminal 7 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 2, check that the meter needle indicates battery positive voltage. e. After connecting terminal 16 to terminal 17, connect to terminal 2 to terminal 17, check the voltage rises from 0 volts to battery positive voltage with in the times, as shown in the table. Fig. 7: Testing Intermittent Wiper Operation
Page 10 of 17 Fig. 8: Intermittent Wiper Voltage Specifications If operation is not as specified, replace the wiper and washer switch. 6. INSPECT WASHER LINKED OPERATION a. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 16 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 2. b. Connect the positive (+) lead from the voltmeter to terminal 7 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 2.
Page 11 of 17 Fig. 9: Testing Washer Linked Operation c. Push in the washer switch, and check that the voltage changes as shown in the table.
Page 12 of 17 Fig. 10: Washer Linked Operation Voltage Specifications If operation is not as specified, replace the wiper and washer switch. 7. Low speed: INSPECT WIPER MOTOR OPERATION Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 5 and the negative (-) lead from the battery to the motor body or terminal 4, and check that the motor operates at low speed.
Page 13 of 17 x Fig. 11: Inspecting Wiper Motor Operation - Low Speed If operation is not as specified, replace the motor. 8. High speed: INSPECT WIPER MOTOR OPERATION Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 3 and the negative (-) lead from the battery to the motor body or terminal 4, and check that the motor operates at high speed. If operation is not as specified, replace the motor.
Page 14 of 17 Fig. 12: Inspecting Wiper Motor Operation - High Speed 9. Stopping at stop position: INSPECT WIPER MOTOR OPERATION a. Operate the motor at low speed and stop the motor operation anywhere except at the stop position by disconnecting positive (+) lead from terminal 3.
Page 15 of 17 Fig. 13: Testing Wiper Motor Stop Position (1 Of 2) b. Connect terminals 1 and 5. c. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 2 and the negative (-) lead from the battery to the motor body or terminal 4, and check that the motor stops running at the stop position after the motor operates again.
Page 16 of 17 Fig. 14: Testing Wiper Motor Stop Position (2 Of 2) If operation is not as specified, replace the motor. 10. INSPECT WASHER MOTOR OPERATION Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 2 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 1, check that the motor operates.
Page 17 of 17 Fig. 15: Testing Washer Motor Operation NOTE: These tests must be performed quickly (within 20 seconds) to prevent the coil from burning out. If operation is not as specified, replace the motor.
