WHAT ABOUT PARKING POLICY? Encouraging results, but what about parking policy? One indicator : a private car is 15 to 3,5 times less used than a shared car Non-use average time Station-based shared car 69,7% Free-floating shared car 92,8% Private car 97,9% One approach (to consider with all the necessary precautions) : Up to car sharing surveys: 32% customers have sold a car thanks to the presence of a car sharing solution 25% customers would (probably) have purchased a car if this car sharing solution didn t exist 7.802 less cars 670 shared vehicles Ratio : 1 shared car replaces 12,6 private cars! = Annual report based on operational data and users survey

FUTURE CHALLENGES July 28 th 17 : decree laying down an approval regulation for car sharing systems between privates individuals First accreditation for Cozycar car sharing platform in June 18 No regional parking permits Challenge of providing parking permits to multiple users of the same car in the context of sectorization project : geographical areas centered on the residence place which delimit the streets on which the parking permit is valid

FUTURE CHALLENGES Draft decree on the license for operators of free-floating bike sharing in progress A lot of operators interested in Brussels market (>1000 bikes in 17) Public administration need a deep reflection on conditions of accreditation Public administration need a deep reflection on parking solutions

CONCLUSIONS Regional parking policy as an enabler for car sharing? Historical support from Brussels Region to first operators Car sharing defined as a strong measure to fight on-street parking problems in strategical planning documents Establishment of a regulatory framework accompanied by encouraging results Controlled opening to new models of car sharing!
