Length f vehicles. (a) The maximum length f a single vehicle n any highway f this State may nt exceed 42 feet except the fllwing: (1) Semitrailers. (2) Charter r regulated rute buses may be up t 45 feet in length, nt including energy absrbing bumpers. (a-1) A mtr hme as defined in Sectin 1-145.01 may be up t 45 feet in length, nt including energy absrbing bumpers. The length limitatins described in this subsectin (a-1) shall be exclusive f energy-absrbing bumpers and rear view mirrrs. (b) On all nn-state highways, the maximum length f vehicles in cmbinatins is as fllws: (1) A truck tractr in cmbinatin with a semitrailer may nt exceed 55 feet verall dimensin. (2) A truck tractr-semitrailer-trailer r truck tractr semitrailer-semitrailer may nt exceed 60 feet verall dimensin. (3) Cmbinatins specially designed t transprt mtr vehicles r bats may nt exceed 60 feet verall dimensin. Vehicles perating during daylight hurs when transprting ples, pipes, machinery, r ther bjects f a structural nature that cannt readily be dismembered are exempt frm length limitatins, prvided that n bject may exceed 80 feet in length and the verall dimensin f the vehicle including the lad may nt exceed 100 feet. This exemptin des nt apply t peratin n a Saturday, Sunday, r legal hliday. Legal hlidays referred t in this Sectin are the days n

which the fllwing traditinal hlidays are celebrated: New Year's Day; Memrial Day; Independence Day; Labr Day; Thanksgiving Day; and Christmas Day. Vehicles and lads perated by a public utility while en rute t make emergency repairs t public service facilities r prperties are exempt frm length limitatins, prvided that during night peratins every vehicle and its lad must be equipped with a sufficient number f clearance lamps n bth sides and marker lamps n the extreme ends f any prjecting lad t clearly mark the dimensins f the lad. A tw truck in cmbinatin with a disabled vehicle r cmbinatin f disabled vehicles, as prvided in paragraph (6) f subsectin (c) f this Sectin, is exempt frm length limitatins. All ther cmbinatins nt listed in this subsectin (b) may nt exceed 60 feet verall dimensin. (c) Except as prvided in subsectins (c-1) and (c-2), cmbinatins f vehicles may nt exceed a ttal f 2 vehicles except the fllwing: (1) A truck tractr semitrailer may draw ne trailer. (2) A truck tractr semitrailer may draw ne cnverter dlly r ne semitrailer. (3) A truck tractr semitrailer may draw ne vehicle that is defined in Chapter 1 as special mbile equipment, prvided the verall dimensin des nt exceed 60 feet. (4) A truck in transit may draw 3 trucks in transit cupled tgether by the triple saddlemunt methd. (5) Recreatinal vehicles cnsisting f 3 vehicles, prvided the fllwing: (A) The ttal verall dimensin des nt exceed 60 feet. (B) The twing vehicle is a prperly registered

vehicle capable f twing anther vehicle using a fifth-wheel type assembly. (C) The secnd vehicle in the cmbinatin f vehicles is a recreatinal vehicle that is twed by a fifth-wheel assembly. This vehicle must be prperly registered and must be equipped with brakes, regardless f weight. (D) The third vehicle must be the lightest f the 3 vehicles and be a trailer r semitrailer designed r used fr transprting a bat, allterrain vehicle, persnal watercraft, r mtrcycle. (E) The twed vehicles may be nly fr the use f the peratr f the twing vehicle. (F) All vehicles must be prperly equipped with perating brakes and safety equipment required by this Cde, except the additinal brake requirement in subdivisin (C) f this subparagraph (5). (6) A tw truck in cmbinatin with a disabled vehicle r cmbinatin f disabled vehicles, prvided the twing vehicle: (A) Is specifically designed as a tw truck having a grss vehicle weight rating f at least 18,000 punds and equipped with air brakes, prvided that air brakes are required nly if the twing vehicle is twing a vehicle, semitrailer, r tractr-trailer cmbinatin that is equipped with air brakes. Fr the purpse f this subsectin, grss vehicle weight rating, r GVWR, means the value specified by the manufacturer as the laded weight f the tw truck. (B) Is equipped with flashing, rtating, r scillating amber lights, visible fr at least 500 feet in all directins. (C) Is capable f utilizing the lighting and

braking systems f the disabled vehicle r cmbinatin f vehicles. (D) Des nt engage a tw exceeding 50 highway miles frm the initial pint f wreck r disablement t a place f repair. Any additinal mvement f the vehicles may ccur nly upn issuance f authrizatin fr that mvement under the prvisins f Sectins 15-301 thrugh 15-319 f this Cde. The Department may by rule r regulatin prescribe additinal requirements regarding length limitatins fr a tw truck twing anther vehicle. Fr purpses f this Sectin, a tw-dlly that merely serves as substitute wheels fr anther legally licensed vehicle is cnsidered part f the licensed vehicle and nt a separate vehicle. (7) Cmmercial vehicles cnsisting f 3 vehicles, prvided the fllwing: (A) The ttal verall dimensin des nt exceed 65 feet. (B) The twing vehicle is a prperly registered vehicle capable f twing anther vehicle using a fifth-wheel type assembly r a gseneck hitch ball. (C) The third vehicle must be the lightest f the 3 vehicles and be a trailer r semitrailer. (D) All vehicles must be prperly equipped with perating brakes and safety equipment required by this Cde.

(E) The cmbinatin f vehicles must be perated by a persn wh hlds a cmmercial driver's license (CDL). (F) The cmbinatin f vehicles must be en rute t a lcatin where new r used trailers are sld by an Illinis r ut-f-state licensed new r used trailer dealer. (c-1) A cmbinatin f 3 vehicles is allwed access t any State designated highway if: (1) the length f neither twed vehicle exceeds 28.5 feet; (2) the verall wheel base f the cmbinatin f vehicles des nt exceed 62 feet; and (3) the cmbinatin f vehicles is en rute t a lcatin where new r used trailers are sld by an Illinis r ut-f-state licensed new r used trailer dealer. (c-2) A cmbinatin f 3 vehicles is allwed access frm any State designated highway nt any cunty, twnship, r municipal highway fr a distance f 5 highway miles fr the purpse f delivery r cllectin f ne r bth f the twed vehicles if: (1) the length f neither twed vehicle exceeds 28.5 feet; (2) the cmbinatin f vehicles des nt exceed 40,000 punds in grss weight and 8 feet 6 inches in width; (3) there is n sign prhibiting that access; (4) the rute is nt being used as a thrughfare

between State designated highways; and (5) the cmbinatin f vehicles is en rute t a lcatin where new r used trailers are sld by an Illinis r ut-f-state licensed new r used trailer dealer. (d) On Class I highways there are n verall length limitatins n mtr vehicles perating in cmbinatins prvided: (1) The length f a semitrailer, unladen r with lad, in cmbinatin with a truck tractr may nt exceed 53 feet. (2) The distance between the kingpin and the center f the rear axle f a semitrailer lnger than 48 feet, in cmbinatin with a truck tractr, may nt exceed 45 feet 6 inches. The limit cntained in this paragraph (2) shall nt apply t trailers r semi-trailers used fr the transprt f livestck as defined by Sectin 18b-101. (3) The length f a semitrailer r trailer, unladen r with lad, perated in a truck tractr-semitrailer-trailer r truck tractr semitrailersemitrailer cmbinatin, may nt exceed 28 feet 6 inches. (4) Maxi-cube cmbinatins, as defined in Chapter 1, may nt exceed 65 feet verall dimensin. (5) Cmbinatins f vehicles specifically designed t transprt mtr vehicles r bats may nt exceed 65 feet verall dimensin. The length limitatin is inclusive f frnt and rear bumpers but exclusive f the verhang f the transprted vehicles, as prvided in paragraph (i) f this Sectin. (6) Stinger steered semitrailer vehicles as defined in Chapter 1, specifically designed t transprt mtr vehicles r bats, may nt exceed 75 feet verall dimensin. The length limitatin is inclusive f frnt and rear bumpers but

exclusive f the verhang f the transprted vehicles, as prvided in paragraph (i) f this Sectin. (7) A truck in transit transprting 3 trucks cupled tgether by the triple saddlemunt methd may nt exceed 75 feet verall dimensin. (e) On Class II highways there are n verall length limitatins n mtr vehicles perating in cmbinatins, prvided: (1) The length f a semitrailer, unladen r with lad, in cmbinatin with a truck tractr, may nt exceed 53 feet verall dimensin. (2) The distance between the kingpin and the center f the rear axle f a semitrailer lnger than 48 feet, in cmbinatin with a truck tractr, may nt exceed 45 feet 6 inches. (2) Frm a Class I r Class II highway nt any State highway r any lcally designated highway fr a distance f 5 highway miles fr the purpse f lading, unlading, fd, fuel, repairs, and rest. (e-3) Cmbinatins f vehicles ver 65 feet in length perated by husehld gds carriers, with n verall length limitatins except as prvided in subsectins (d) and (e) f this Sectin, have unlimited access t pints f lading and unlading. (f) On Class III and ther nn-designated State highways, the length limitatins fr vehicles in cmbinatin are as fllws: (1) Truck tractr-semitrailer cmbinatins, must cmply with either a maximum 55 feet verall wheel base r a maximum 65 feet extreme verall dimensin. (2) Semitrailers, unladen r with lad, may nt exceed 53 feet verall dimensin. (3) N truck tractr-semitrailer-trailer r truck

(g) Length limitatins in the preceding subsectins f this Sectin 15-107 d nt apply t the fllwing: (1) Vehicles perated in the daytime, except n Saturdays, Sundays, r legal hlidays, when transprting ples, pipe, machinery, r ther bjects f a structural nature that cannt readily be dismembered, prvided the verall length f vehicle and lad may nt exceed 100 feet and n bject exceeding 80 feet in length may be transprted unless a permit has been btained as authrized in Sectin 15-301. (2) Vehicles and lads perated by a public utility while en rute t make emergency repairs t public service facilities r prperties, but during night peratin every vehicle and its lad must be equipped with a sufficient number f clearance lamps n bth sides and marker lamps upn the extreme ends f any prjecting lad t clearly mark the dimensins f the lad. (3) A tw truck in cmbinatin with a disabled vehicle r cmbinatin f disabled vehicles, prvided the twing vehicle meets the fllwing cnditins: (A) It is specifically designed as a tw truck having a grss vehicle weight rating f at least 18,000 punds and equipped with air brakes, prvided that air brakes are required nly if the twing vehicle is twing a vehicle, semitrailer, r tractr-trailer cmbinatin that is equipped with air brakes. (B) It is equipped with flashing, rtating, r scillating amber lights, visible fr at least 500 feet in all directins.

(C) It is capable f utilizing the lighting and braking systems f the disabled vehicle r cmbinatin f vehicles. (D) It des nt engage in a tw exceeding 50 miles frm the initial pint f wreck r disablement. The Department may by rule r regulatin prescribe additinal requirements regarding length limitatins fr a tw truck twing anther vehicle. The twing vehicle, hwever, may tw any disabled vehicle frm the initial pint f wreck r disablement t a pint where repairs are actually t ccur. This mvement shall be valid nly n State rutes. The twer must abide by psted bridge weight limits. Fr the purpse f this subsectin, grss vehicle weight rating, r GVWR, shall mean the value specified by the manufacturer as the laded weight f the tw truck. Legal hlidays referred t in this Sectin shall be specified as the day n which the fllwing traditinal hlidays are celebrated: New Year's Day; Memrial Day; Independence Day; Labr Day; Thanksgiving Day; and Christmas Day. (h) The lad upn any vehicle perated alne, r the lad upn the frnt vehicle f a cmbinatin f vehicles, shall nt extend mre than 3 feet beynd the frnt wheels f the vehicle r the frnt bumper f the vehicle if it is equipped with a frnt bumper. The prvisins f this subsectin (h) shall nt apply t any vehicle r cmbinatin f vehicles specifically designed fr the cllectin and transprtatin f waste, garbage, r recyclable materials during the vehicle's peratin in the curse f cllecting garbage, waste, r recyclable materials if the vehicle is traveling at a speed nt in excess f 15 miles per hur during the vehicle's peratin and in the curse f cllecting garbage, waste, r recyclable materials. Hwever, in n instance shall the lad extend mre than 7 feet beynd the frnt wheels f the vehicle r the frnt bumper f the vehicle if it is equipped with a frnt bumper. (i) The lad upn the frnt vehicle f a cmbinatin f vehicles specifically designed t transprt mtr vehicles shall nt extend mre than 3 feet beynd the fremst part f the

transprting vehicle and the lad upn the rear transprting vehicle shall nt extend mre than 4 feet beynd the rear f the bed r bdy f the vehicle. This paragraph shall nly be applicable upn highways designated in paragraphs (d) and (e) f this Sectin. (j) Articulated vehicles cmprised f 2 sectins, neither f which exceeds a length f 42 feet, designed fr the carrying f mre than 10 persns, may be up t 60 feet in length, nt including energy absrbing bumpers, prvided that the vehicles are: 1. perated by r fr any public bdy r mtr carrier authrized by law t prvide public transprtatin services; r 2. perated in lcal public transprtatin service by any ther persn and the municipality in which the service is t be prvided apprved the peratin f the vehicle. (j-1) (Blank). (k) Any persn wh is cnvicted f vilating this Sectin is subject t the penalty as prvided in paragraph (b) f Sectin 15-113. (l) (Blank). Height f vehicles. The height f a vehicle frm the under side f the tire t the tp f the vehicle, inclusive f lad, shall nt exceed 13 feet, 6 inches n any highway in the State. A persn cnvicted f vilating this Sectin is subject t the penalty prvided in paragraph (b) f Sectin 15-113. (Surce: P.A. 92-417, eff. 1-1-02.) (625 ILCS 5/15-102) (frm Ch. 95 1/2, par. 15-102) Sec. 15-102. Width f Vehicles.

(a) On Class III and nn-designated State and lcal highways, the ttal utside width f any vehicle r lad theren shall nt exceed 8 feet 6 inches. (b) Except during thse times when, due t insufficient light r unfavrable atmspheric cnditins, persns and vehicles n the highway are nt clearly discernible at a distance f 1000 feet, the fllwing vehicles may exceed the 8 feet 6 inch limitatin during the perid frm a half hur befre sunrise t a half hur after sunset: (1) Lads f hay, straw r ther similar farm prducts prvided that the lad is nt mre than 12 feet wide. (2) Implements f husbandry being transprted n anther vehicle and the transprting vehicle while laded. The fllwing requirements apply t the transprtatin n anther vehicle f an implement f husbandry wider than 8 feet 6 inches n the Natinal System f Interstate and Defense Highways r ther highways in the system f State highways: (A) The driver f a vehicle transprting an implement f husbandry that exceeds 8 feet 6 inches in width shall bey all traffic laws and shall check the radways prir t making a mvement in rder t ensure that adequate clearance is available fr the mvement. It is prima facie evidence that the driver f a vehicle transprting an implement f husbandry has failed t check the radway prir t making a mvement if the vehicle is invlved in a cllisin with a bridge, verpass, fixed structure, r prperly placed traffic cntrl device r if the vehicle blcks traffic due t its inability t prceed because f a bridge, verpass, fixed structure, r prperly placed traffic cntrl device. (B) Flags shall be displayed s as t wave freely at the extremities f verwidth bjects and at the extreme ends f all prtrusins, prjectins, and verhangs. All flags shall be clean, bright red flags with n advertising, wrding, emblem, r insignia inscribed upn them and at least 18 inches square. (C) "OVERSIZE LOAD" signs are mandatry n the

frnt and rear f all vehicles with lads ver 10 feet wide. These signs must have 12-inch high black letters with a 2-inch strke n a yellw sign that is 7 feet wide by 18 inches high. (D) One civilian escrt vehicle is required fr a lad that exceeds 14 feet 6 inches in width and 2 civilian escrt vehicles are required fr a lad that exceeds 16 feet in width n the Natinal System f Interstate and Defense Highways r ther highways in the system f State highways. (E) The requirements fr a civilian escrt vehicle and driver are as fllws: (1) The civilian escrt vehicle shall be a passenger car r a secnd divisin vehicle nt exceeding a grss vehicle weight f 8,000 punds that is designed t affrd clear and unbstructed visin t bth frnt and rear. (2) The escrt vehicle driver must be prperly licensed t perate the vehicle. (3) While in use, the escrt vehicle must be equipped with illuminated rtating, scillating, r flashing amber lights r flashing amber strbe lights munted n tp that are f sufficient intensity t be visible at 500 feet in nrmal sunlight. (4) "OVERSIZE LOAD" signs are mandatry n all escrt vehicles. The sign n an escrt vehicle shall have 8-inch high black letters n a yellw sign that is 5 feet wide by 12 inches high. (5) When nly ne escrt vehicle is required and it is perating n a tw-lane highway, the escrt vehicle shall travel apprximately 300 feet ahead f the lad. The rtating, scillating, r flashing lights r flashing amber strbe lights and an "OVERSIZE LOAD" sign shall be displayed n the escrt vehicle and shall be visible frm the frnt. When nly ne escrt vehicle is required and it is perating

n a multilane divided highway, the escrt vehicle shall travel apprximately 300 feet behind the lad and the sign and lights shall be visible frm the rear. (6) When 2 escrt vehicles are required, ne escrt shall travel apprximately 300 feet ahead f the lad and the secnd escrt shall travel apprximately 300 feet behind the lad. The rtating, scillating, r flashing lights r flashing amber strbe lights and an "OVERSIZE LOAD" sign shall be displayed n the escrt vehicles and shall be visible frm the frnt n the lead escrt and frm the rear n the trailing escrt. (7) When traveling within the crprate limits f a municipality, the escrt vehicle shall maintain a reasnable and prper distance frm the versize lad, cnsistent with existing traffic cnditins. (8) A separate escrt shall be prvided fr each lad hauled. (9) The driver f an escrt vehicle shall bey all traffic laws. (10) The escrt vehicle must be in safe peratinal cnditin. (11) The driver f the escrt vehicle must be in radi cntact with the driver f the vehicle carrying the versize lad. (F) A transprt vehicle while under lad f mre than 8 feet 6 inches in width must be equipped with an illuminated rtating, scillating, r flashing amber light r lights r a flashing amber strbe light r lights munted n the tp f the cab that are f sufficient intensity t be visible at 500 feet in nrmal sunlight. If the lad n the transprt vehicle blcks the visibility f the amber lighting frm the rear f the vehicle, the vehicle must als be equipped with an illuminated rtating, scillating, r flashing amber light r lights r a flashing amber strbe light r lights munted n the rear f the lad that are f sufficient intensity t be visible at 500 feet in nrmal sunlight. (G) When a flashing amber light is required n

the transprt vehicle under lad and it is perating n a tw-lane highway, the transprt vehicle shall display t the rear at least ne rtating, scillating, r flashing light r a flashing amber strbe light and an "OVERSIZE LOAD" sign. When a flashing amber light is required n the transprt vehicle under lad and it is perating n a multilane divided highway, the sign and light shall be visible frm the rear. (H) Maximum speed shall be 45 miles per hur n all such mves r 5 miles per hur abve the psted minimum speed limit, whichever is greater, but the vehicle shall nt at any time exceed the psted maximum speed limit. (3) Prtable buildings designed and used fr agricultural and livestck raising peratins that are nt mre than 14 feet wide and with nt mre than a 1 ft verhang alng the left side f the hauling vehicle. Hwever, the buildings shall nt be transprted mre than 10 miles and nt n any rute that is part f the Natinal System f Interstate and Defense Highways. All buildings when being transprted shall display at least 2 red clth flags, nt less than 12 inches square, munted as high as practicable n the left and right side f the building. A State Plice escrt shall be required if it is necessary fr this lad t use part f the left lane when crssing any 2 laned State highway bridge. (c) Vehicles prpelled by electric pwer btained frm verhead trlley wires perated whlly within the crprate limits f a municipality are als exempt frm the width limitatin. (d) (Blank). (d-1) A recreatinal vehicle, as defined in Sectin 1-169, may exceed 8 feet 6 inches in width if: (1) the excess width is attributable t appurtenances that extend 6 inches r less beynd either side f the bdy f the vehicle; and (2) the radway n which the vehicle is traveling has marked lanes fr vehicular traffic that are at least 11 feet in width.

As used in this subsectin (d-1) and in subsectin (d-2), the term appurtenance includes (i) a retracted awning and its supprt hardware and (ii) any appendage that is intended t be an integral part f a recreatin vehicle. (d-2) A recreatinal vehicle that exceeds 8 feet 6 inches in width as prvided in subsectin (d- 1) may travel any radway f the State if the vehicle is being perated between a radway permitted under subsectin (d-1) and: (1) the lcatin where the recreatin vehicle is garaged; (2) the destinatin f the recreatin vehicle; r (3) a facility fr fd, fuel, repair, services, r rest. (e) A vehicle and lad traveling upn the Natinal System f Interstate and Defense Highways r any ther highway in the system f State highways that has been designated as a Class I r Class II highway by the Department, r any street r highway designated by lcal authrities, may have a ttal utside width f 8 feet 6 inches, prvided that certain safety devices that the Department determines as necessary fr the safe and efficient peratin f mtr vehicles shall nt be included in the calculatin f width. Sectin 5-35 f the Illinis Administrative Prcedure Act relating t prcedures fr rulemaking shall nt apply t the designatin f highways under this paragraph (e). (f) Mirrrs required by Sectin 12-502 f this Cde and ther safety devices identified by the Department may prject up t 14 inches beynd each side f a bus and up t 6 inches beynd each side f any ther vehicle, and that prjectin shall nt be deemed a vilatin f the width restrictins f this Sectin. (g) Any persn wh is cnvicted f vilating this Sectin is subject t the penalty as prvided in paragraph (b) f Sectin 15-113. 625 ILCS 5/12-301 Brakes (a) Brake equipment required. 1. Every mtr vehicle, ther than a mtr-driven cycle, an antique vehicle displaying an antique plate, and an expanded-use antique vehicle displaying expanded-use antique vehicle plates, when perated upn a highway shall be equipped with brakes adequate t cntrl the mvement f and t stp and hld such vehicle, including 2 separate means f applying the brakes, each f which means shall be effective t apply the brakes t at least ne wheel n a mtrcycle

and at least 2 wheels n all ther first divisin and secnd divisin vehicles. If these 2 separate means f applying the brakes are cnnected in any way, they shall be s cnstructed that failure f any ne part f the perating mechanism shall nt leave the mtr vehicle withut brakes. 2. Every mtr-driven cycle when perated upn a highway shall be equipped with at least ne brake which may be perated by hand r ft. 3. Every antique vehicle shall be equipped with the brakes f the same type riginally installed by the manufacturer as riginal equipment and in wrking rder. 4. Except as prvided in paragraph 4.1, every trailer r semitrailer f a grss weight f ver 3,000 punds, when perated upn a highway must be equipped with brakes adequate t cntrl the mvement f, t stp and t hld such vehicle, and designed s as t be perable by the driver f the twing vehicle frm its cab. Such brakes must be s designed and cnnected that in case f an accidental breakaway f a twed vehicle ver 5,000 punds, the brakes are autmatically applied. 4.1. Every bat trailer f a grss weight f ver 3,000 punds, when perated upn a highway, must be equipped with brakes adequate t cntrl the mvement f, t stp, and t hld that bat trailer. The brakes must be designed t ensure that, in case f an accidental breakaway f a twed bat trailer ver 5,000 punds, the brakes are autmatically applied. 5. Every mtr vehicle, expanded-use antique vehicle, trailer, ple trailer r semitrailer, sld in this State r perated upn the highways shall be equipped with service brakes upn all wheels f every such vehicle, except any mtrdriven cycle, and except that any trailer, pletrailer r semitrailer 3,000 punds grss weight r less need nt be equipped with brakes, and except that any trailer r semitrailer with grss weight ver 3,000 punds but under 5,001 punds need be equipped with brakes n nly ne wheel n each side f the vehicle. Any mtr vehicle and truck tractr having 3 r mre axles and manufactured prir t July 25, 1980 need nt have brakes n the frnt wheels, except when such vehicles are equipped with at least 2 steerable axles, the wheels f ne such axle need nt be equipped with brakes. Hwever, a vehicle that is mre than 30 years f age and which is driven n the highways nly in ging t and returning frm an antique aut shw r fr servicing r fr a demnstratin need be equipped with 2 wheel brakes nly. (b) Perfrmance ability f brakes. 1. The service brakes upn any mtr vehicle r cmbinatin f vehicles perating n a level surface shall be adequate t stp such vehicle r vehicles

when traveling 20 miles per hur within a distance f 30 feet when upn dry asphalt r cncrete pavement surface free frm lse material. 2. Under the abve cnditins the hand brake shall be adequate t stp such vehicle r vehicles, except any mtrcycle, within a distance f 55 feet and the hand brake shall be adequate t hld such vehicle r vehicles statinary n any grade upn which perated. 3. Under the abve cnditins the service brakes upn an antique vehicle r expanded-use antique vehicle shall be adequate t stp the vehicle within a distance f 40 feet and the hand brake adequate t stp the vehicle within a distance f 55 feet. 4. All braking distances specified in this Sectin apply t all vehicles mentined, whether such vehicles are unladed r are laded t the maximum capacity permitted under this Act. 5. All brakes shall be maintained in gd wrking rder and shall be s adjusted as t perate as equally as practicable with respect t the wheels n ppsite sides f the vehicle. 6. Brake assembly requirements fr mbile hmes shall be the standards required by the United States Department f Husing and Urban Develpment adpted under Title VI f the Husing and Cmmunity Develpment Act f 1974 [42 U.S.C. 5401 et seq.]. (c) (Blank). (Surce: P.A. 96-34, eff. 1-1-10; 96-37, eff. 7-13-09; 96-220, eff. 1-1-10; 96-1000, eff. 7-2-10.) 625 ILCS 5/12-201 When lighted lamps are required (a) When perated upn any highway in this State, every mtrcycle shall at all times exhibit at least ne lighted lamp, shwing a white light visible fr at least 500 feet in the directin the mtrcycle is prceeding. Hwever, in lieu f such lighted lamp, a mtrcycle may be equipped with and use a means f mdulating the upper beam f the head lamp between high and a lwer brightness. N such head lamp shall be mdulated, except t therwise cmply with this Cde, during times when lighted lamps are required fr ther mtr vehicles. (b) All ther mtr vehicles shall exhibit at least 2 lighted head lamps, with at least ne n each side f the frnt f the vehicle, which satisfy United States Department f Transprtatin requirements, shwing white lights, including that emitted by high intensity discharge (HID) lamps, r lights f a yellw r amber tint, during the perid frm sunset t sunrise, at times when rain, snw, fg, r ther atmspheric cnditins require the use f windshield wipers, and at any ther times when, due t insufficient light r unfavrable atmspheric cnditins, persns and vehicles n the highway are nt clearly discernible at a distance f 1000 feet. Parking lamps may be used

in additin t but nt in lieu f such head lamps. Every mtr vehicle, trailer, r semitrailer shall als exhibit at least 2 lighted lamps, cmmnly knwn as tail lamps, which shall be munted n the left rear and right rear f the vehicle s as t thrw a red light visible fr at least 500 feet in the reverse directin, except that a truck tractr r rad tractr manufactured befre January 1, 1968 and all mtrcycles need be equipped with nly ne such tail lamp. (c) Either a tail lamp r a separate lamp shall be s cnstructed and placed as t illuminate with a white light a rear registratin plate when required and render it clearly legible frm a distance f 50 feet t the rear. Any tail lamp r tail lamps, tgether with any separate lamp r lamps fr illuminating a rear registratin plate, shall be s wired as t be lighted whenever the head lamps r auxiliary driving lamps are lighted. (d) A persn shall install nly head lamps that satisfy United States Department f Transprtatin regulatins and shw white light, including that emitted by HID lamps, r light f a yellw r amber tint fr use by a mtr vehicle. 625 ILCS 5/12-502 Mirrrs Every mtr vehicle, perated singly r when twing anther vehicle, shall be equipped with a mirrr s lcated as t reflect t the driver a view f the highway fr a distance f at least 200 feet t the rear f such mtr vehicle.
