Project Summery Project goal: to collect knowledge and develop competitive actuation system within AT SbW technology. Project was partially sponsored by FFI institute Partners: Faculty of Engineering at Lund University, Division of Industrial Electrical Engineering and Automation BEVI, swedish producer of electric motors MagComp, swedish expert and supplier of advanced magnetic materials Project started: 2013 April Project ended: 2015 July Outcome: very competitive patented P-lock/PRND actuator already sold to several OEMs in both China and Europa. 4
Concept Work Actuator Market Intrests Compact Light Reliable Low price A small and light DC motor combined with high gearing system giving right output power. Three gears folded for compact design. Back drivable worm gear for manual override. Final gear after sensor for high resolution signal feedback. 5
Design Overview 35W DC motor with brushes. Size Ø32x51mm. Total reduction rate between 200 and 400. Compact design achieved by arranging: - worm screw parallel to motor. - worm wheel of face gear type. - final spur gear moving under motor. Motor relieved from any axial load. Variable ratio on final gear for torque boost in P and speed boost toward D. 6
Features & Benefits Compact design: 114x102x48 (connector not included) 21Nm of max stall torque at 12V and 25ºC Mass approx. 450g 46 of achievable rotational stroke 250ms full stroke under load Variable final gear for torque boost in P Manual override possible (if desired) Electronic compass position feedback Designed for ambient temperature from -40ºC to 150ºC Watertight, IP66K / IP6K9K Actuator Market Intrests Compact Light Reliable Low price ARC s answer Smallest Lightest Least parts Very competitive in price 7
Controlling ARC ARC + ACM completes a full system ACM has all the control electronics required be integrated into any vehicle platform CAN, LIN, HW-control Electronics design according to ISO26262 ASIL C Dual die magnetic angular sensor with SENT/PWM Dual MCUs for complete independency between PID controller and diagnostic monitoring PWM controlled safety relay for reliable safe state engagement SW algorithm automatically calibrates and adapts ARC positions according to variations in the transmission detent curve Engine compartment Actuator Control Module, ACM Passenger compartment 8
ARC evolution ACM ARC + ACM Actuator on transmission - ACM in passenger compartment + ARC can be controlled by other ECU if available + Targets ASIL C (SEooC) + Electronics installed in less harsh environment + Low weight on actuator + CAN and LIN communication to vehicle - Two units to install - Not all customers need all features of the ACM ARC independent Actuator and ACM as one unit installed on transmission + Targets ASIL B (SEooC) + Same size as ARC with separate ACM + One unit to install + Lower total system cost + Lower total system weight - CAN or LIN communication to vehicle ASIL C with slightly larger housing 9
