MODELS SR AND SRT DISTRIBUTION. DESCRIPTION This section contains information on the distribution system. The fuel distribution system consists of electric and mechanical (engine-driven) fuel pumps, fuel gascolator, fuel hose, fuel lines, fuel selector valve, and fuel pump switches. A. Gascolator - Serials -000 thru -709, -70 thru -40 after SB X-8-08 R or higher, -4 & subs, T-000 & subs A gascolator is installed on the forward side of the firewall after the electric fuel pump and before the engine driven fuel pump. A drain valve, connected to the bowl of the gascolator, is used to drain off contaminates during the preflight inspection. The gascolator provides 00 to 40 micron filtration and has a 4.9 fluid ounce (44.89 milliliters) bowl capacity. The filter element can be cleaned or replaced when the bowl is removed. B. Gascolator - Serials -70 thru -40 before SB X-8-08 R or higher A gascolator is installed on the forward side of the firewall after the electric fuel pump and before the engine driven fuel pump. A drain valve, connected to the bowl of the gascolator, is used to drain off contaminates during the preflight inspection. The gascolator provides 0 micron filtration and has a 6.7 fluid ounce (98.4 milliliters) bowl capacity. The gascolator contains a filter bypass that is activated when pressure drop through the filter reaches.0 ±0. PSI. The filter element cannot be cleaned. The filter element can be replaced when the bowl is removed. Serials -70 thru -06 thru -40 w/o Perspective Avionics before SB X-8-08 R or higher: Prior to bypassing fuel, the gascolator indicates that the pressure drop is becoming greater than normal with a mechanical pop-up tab indicator. The red pop-up tab extends 0.5 inch (6.5 mm) out of the top of the assembly at 0.8 ±0. PSI and remains extended until manually reset. Serials -06 thru -40 w/ Perspective Avionics before SB X-8-08 R or higher: Fuel flow is measured at the gascolator and the signal sent to the Engine Airframe Unit, processed, and transmitted to the Engine Indicating System for display. Note: The majority of all fuel system problems are directly related to contaminated fuel. Therefore, inspecting and cleaning the fuel drains and filter in the gascolator should be considered to be of utmost importance. Under normal operating conditions, the fuel drains and filter in the gascolator should be inspected and cleaned as indicated in Chapter 5. If the airplane is used in dusty or dirty environments, the fuel drains and filter in the gascolator should be cleaned more often. Serials -70 thru -40 before SB X-8-08 R or higher: If significant contamination is noted during preflight sump check, the filter element should be replaced. The engine-driven fuel pump is mounted to the aft side of the engine. An electric fuel pump is installed on the forward side of the firewall. Serials -000 & subs: Mounted on the center console (adjacent to the fuel selector valve) is a Fuel Pump BOOST-OFF-(PRIME) rocker switch. The prime position on the switch is momentary. The boost position is continuous. The boost pump operates on 8 VDC supplied through the 5-amp FUEL PUMP circuit breaker on Main Bus. Serials T-000 & subs: Mounted on the center console (adjacent to the fuel selector valve) is a Fuel Pump LOW BOOST-OFF-HIGH BOOST/PRIME rocker switch. The boost pump operates on 8 VDC supplied through the 5-amp FUEL PUMP circuit breaker on Main Bus. Serials -000 thru -077 before SB -7-0: A fuel pressure based system is used to control boost pump operation. Both positions of the pump normally operate on the low-speed setting. For engine priming, a pressure actuated switch located on the fuel injection distribution manifold allows the pump to run on high speed when fuel system pressure is below PSI. This allows rapid priming of the fuel system for start- All 8-0 Page 5 Jun 00

MODELS SR AND SRT ing. Once the fuel system is primed, the electric pump is switched to the low-speed setting by the pressure switch. The boost position operates the electric pump at the low-speed setting only, regardless of fuel system pressure. Serials -000 thru -077 after SB -7-0, 078 & subs w/o Perspective Avionics: An oil pressure based system is used to control boost pump operation. The oil pressure/oil temperature gauge provides a signal to the starting circuit/dau to generate a ground for the oil annunciator and the fuel system. This system allows the fuel pump to run at the prime (high speed) when the engine oil pressure is less than 0 PSI. Whenever the engine oil pressure exceeds 0 PSI, pressing the prime switch will have no effect. The boost position energizes the boost pump in low-speed mode regardless of oil pressure to deliver a continuous 4-6 psi boost to the fuel flow for vapor suppression in a hot fuel condition. Serials -06 & subs w/ Perspective Avionics: An oil pressure based system is used to control boost pump operation. The oil pressure gauge provides a signal to the GEA to allow the fuel pump to run at the prime (high speed) when the engine oil pressure is less than 0 PSI. Serials T-000 & subs: A manifold pressure/rpm based system is used to control boost pump operation. The manifold pressure sensor provides a signal to the GEA to allow the fuel pump to run at the prime/ high boost (high speed) when the engine manifold pressure is greater than 4 Hg. Additionally, the engine RPM speed sensor provides a signal to the GEA to allow the fuel pump to run at the prime/high boost (high speed) when starting the airplane. Whenever the engine manifold pressure is less than 4 Hg and engine RPM is greater than 500 RPM, pressing the prime switch energizes the boost pump in low-speed mode. A fuel tank selector valve is installed in the center console between the crew seats, and is isolated from the cabin in case of leakage. The valve has a left, right, and off position. Each position has a positive detent. A knob is located at the top of the handle, and must be pulled to switch the valve to the off position; the valve can be rotated back to on without any further action. The selector valve can be switched between left and right fuel tanks by simply rotating the valve. The valve handle points in the direction of the tank being selected. The selector valve only allows feed from one tank at a time. Drain hoses are provided for the auxiliary fuel pump, gascolator, engine driven fuel pump, fuel injection manifold (spider), and the engine manifolds (cylinder heads). Drain hoses are routed to a drain manifold located on the bottom center of the firewall. A check valve is installed on the cylinder drain manifold to prevent loss of manifold pressure. The valve closes when manifold pressure is below ambient pressure. An aft side firewall fuel enclosure, and a selector valve enclosure prevent fuel from leaking into the cabin. Note: When servicing fuel system pipe thread fittings, apply a small amount of grease (MIL-G- 600 Type ) to the external threads. 8-0 Page 0 Feb 0 All
