Many training companies offer a 4 day course, which includes your LGV test, which may seem cheaper, but if you fail you will require a re-test (approx 300). Procedure for achieving Driver CPC Initial Qualification (LGV) Undertake and pass the LGV medical Module 1 (pass theory and hazard perception) Module 2 (pass case study theory test) Module 3 (pass practical driving test) Module 4 (pass associated knowledge practical exam) Medical EP Training has an arrangement with a local, reputable General Practitioner who visits EP Training on a regular basis to carry out LGV and PCV medicals. EP will arrange for you to come to its Great Bookham training centre and have your required medical carried out there. This is all included in the price. Applying for Provisional Cat C entitlement Candidates must next apply for the correct LGV provisional entitlement. The D2 is required to be completed for LGV provisional entitlement. Please ensure the application form is read carefully before it is completed, especially the section asking which licence is wanted; the C Box should be ticked The LGV provisional application is free of charge. When complete, post the forms and relevant identification to the DVLA in the pre-addressed brown envelope. 3
If you currently have a photo type licence, then the documents that need to be sent to the DVLA are: D4 Form D2 Form Both parts of your licence While waiting for the licence to come through, it would be highly advisable to start reading the LGV Theory Test book, Hazard Perception DVD and the Case Study DVD. You can purchase all the books and DVD direct from EP Training. Theory and Hazard Perception Test. Module 1 The theory and hazard perception are two separate examinations and are sat independently of each other. Theory test (Module 1A) To pass the theory test you are required to answer 100 multiple choice questions. You must get at least 85 correct to be awarded a pass. The theory test exam lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes. Test fees: 35. The Hazard Perception Test (Module 1B) The hazard perception test consists of 20 hazard clips. You are required to identify as and when hazards appear on the screen. It is highly recommended you acquire The Official Hazard Perception CD ROM. The required pass mark is 67 out of 100. Theory test fee 15. If you fail the hazard perception test but have passed the theory test, then you only resit the hazard perception test, and vice versa. There are numerous test centres around the country, so you shouldn t have far to travel to take the theory and hazard perception test. Once a booking has been made, confirmation of date, time and location will be sent to you. Case Study Test. Module 2 A case study examination which must be sat at a DSA approved theory test centre. The exam lasts for 1 hour and 30 minutes. You will be asked a variety of questions with multiple choice answers. The exam will use diagrams, video clips, text and audio to help illustrate the questions. Each test will consist of 7 case studies. In turn you will be asked 6-8 questions per scenario. Test fee 30. Please note, Module 2 is not required if your LGV licence is not vocational. EP Training can supply you with a DVD to assist you in preparation for the Module 2 exam. Practical Driving Test. Module 3 Module 3 (Practical Driving Test) you will be required to undergo a practical driving test with a DVSA examiner. You must be able to demonstrate competence and safety during your drive. The test will last 1 hour and 30 minutes You will be assessed on reversing, lane discipline, maintaining progress, uphill and downhill starts, fuel efficient driving, etc. It may be the case that you are acquiring your C licence for private use only, i.e. your main occupation will not be driving a lorry for a living. If this is the case then only modules 1 and 3 need be attained. Practical Associated Knowledge Test. Module 4 Module 4 is a separate practical test that lasts for approximately 30 minutes. Module 4 can be taken before or after Module 3. You must provide a vehicle for demonstration purposes You will be assessed by a DVSA examiner at a DVSA testing centre. The examiner will ask a number of questions relating to vehicle and load safety and security. This may, for example include demonstrating a pre-use vehicle check or show how you would use restraining devices to secure loads. You must be able to demonstrate and explain your answers The overall pass mark for Module 4 is 80%. You must also attain at least 75% in each section. 5
Choose your options Option 1 The Full Package (Cat C and CPC) If you want to drive an LGV professionally then you will need to pass Driver CPC and LGV. Having one without the other makes no sense and you will not be able to source employment. You can now train and test on an automatic gearbox and get a full manual licence (as long as you have a full manual car licence). The whole process will take approximately 8 weeks. Whatever you do, don t sign up with a broker. All prices include Vat + all test fees 1,785 Option 2 Back to Back (C and C+E and Driver CPC) This is the full Monty and the one you need if you want to go all the way to C+E (class 1 articulated). It is in our interest to ensure you pass your LGV test first time. However, it is a fact of life that not everyone will get through first time. To help you attain your goal, EP Training has introduced the Pass Protection scheme. This Pass Protection scheme acts as an insurance by providing an additional 2 re-tests with training. Option 4 5 Days Practical Training (only on C or C+E) For cat C training: If you have done your own medical, applied for your provisional and passed your theory tests (for cat C1 or C only) then you only need the 5 days driver training. For cat C+E training: If you already have a full cat C licence then there are no medicals, theories or provisional licence applications to go through for the C+E. Passing your cat C driving test will automatically give you provisional C+E entitlement 5 days practical tuition on C or C+E Our training vehicles are parked in Addlestone, Surrey and all training and testing in conducted in and around Guildford only. If you drive a 7.5 (C1) or minibus (D1) and tow a trailer in excess of 750 KGS (what the trailer is authorised to operate at) then you will require either C1E or D1E.
