2. PROCESS DESCRIPTION Stirling Crygenics Crygeneratrs utilize the highly efficient Stirling thermdynamic cycle t prduce lw temperatures dwn t crygenic temperatures. Stirling Crygenics Crygeneratrs cme generally in 2 cnfiguratins: as a ne cylinder unit (SPC-1) r as a 4 cylinder unit (SPC-4). Bth are available in single stage (fr temperatures dwn t apprx. 60K) and 2-stage cnfiguratin (fr temperatures dwn t 15K). Stirling 1 Cylinder 2-Stage Crygeneratr (SPC-4T). The SPCT-4T is a tw-stage Stirling crygeneratr which simultaneusly prvides refrigeratin at 20 K and at 80 K temperature levels by means f tw separate heat exchangers. The SPC-4T uses pressurized helium gas as medium t transfer cld t the applicatin. The helium is transferred by use f tw crygenic fans. These fans each have their wn frequency cnverter which allws them t run at any speed up t 350Hz. Islatin lsses n the system are minimized by means f specific vacuum insulatin n the crygeneratr head. Transfer line assembly and ther equipment cnnected t the crygeneratr are vacuum islated as well. By default each heat exchangers cnsists f a wund spiral tube and a cld gas fan. The fans circulate the gas in separate lps. The crygeneratr has 4 prcess cnnectins: tw cnnectins (in- and utlet) fr the 20K applicatin and 2 cnnectins fr the 80K applicatin. Typically the 20K stage is cnnected t the main applicatin, and the 80K stage is used t cl a heat shield r secndary applicatin at liquid nitrgen temperatures. Using the 80K stage hwever is nt mandatry and nt using it will actually increase the cling capacity f the 20K stage by 5-7%. CryFan (CryZne brand): CryZne s CryFan are high speed crygenic gas circulatrs, specially designed t transprt crygenic gasses with minimum lsses. All CryFans have the same generic design cncept. The main parts are the impeller and vlute. Their dimensinal shape determines the functinality and efficiency f the fan. The impeller and vlute are psitined in the vacuum/crygenic part f the system. The impeller is driven by a high-rpm electric mtr t generate the flw. The electrical mtr Is lcated at the utside/warm part f the crygenic system. All cmpnents are placed within a single husing, since in the CryFan design, the mtr is installed within the pressurized gas area. This psitining avids the use f a rtating seal and hence the risk f leakage. In rder t create a thermal barrier between the mtr (at ambient temperature) and the cld impeller, a lng thin stainless steel shaft is utilized. T avid a cld bearing (which is prne t wear and tear), a cantilever set-up is used with a highly balanced shaft and impeller. This set-up ensures a minimum MTBF f 36.000 hurs. The mtr with shaft and impeller can be munted frm the utside. This allws remval f the cmplete insert fr maintenance, withut disrupting the vacuum. The CryFan(s) are munted in the vacuum area f the cld head f the Crygeneratr. The capacity f the CryFans is cntrlled thrugh the speed (RPM) f the fan frm apprx. 25-100%. This is integrated in the cntrl unit fr easy cntrl. 3 System cntrl The System Cntrl f the SPC-4T is based n a Siemens PLC (S7-1200 versin 12). This cntrl unit is an integral part f the SPC scpe f supply. The System Cntrl will safeguard the prper functining f the SPC-4T, prtecting it frm internal and external faults (n il pressure, n water flw, etc) and will cntrl the capacity f the SPC-4T using a frequency cnverter t adapt the mtr speed. With a remte signal frm the custmer, the crygeneratr is perated (start/stp). With the RPM-regulatin f the frequency cnvertr, it is pssible t g dwn t 73% f the maximum cling pwer at the prevailing temperature and pressure. The crygeneratr RPM is adjusted by a frequency cntrller (between 73-100% f max. RPM) which is cntrlled by a 4-20 ma signal frm the custmer. The PLC will dampen the custmers cntrl signal t prevent the crygeneratr frm ramping up r dwn t fast. The temperature f each stage and the incming and utging gas temperatures f each stage can be read n the PLC and these temperatures will be sent t the custmer as an 2-20 ma signal fr mnitring. 2.1 Cntrl mdes In all mdes the SPC-4T crygeneratr is nly allwed t start if the fan is running. The fan speed can be manually set n the User Interface between 6000 and 21000 RPM in all mdes. 2.1.1 Nrmal mde The SPC-4T crygeneratr is in peratin, bth fans are running and all standard safety cntrls are active. The crygeneratr can either be started n the User Interface r via the standard remte ON/OFF cntrl if the system is in nrmal mde. 2.1.2 Test mdes There are 2 test mdes: Mde 1 - Crygenratr test mde: the crygeneratr is in peratin fr 15 minutes Mde 2 - CryFan test mde: bth fans are running but the crygeneratr is nt in peratin. 6 CryFan characteristics Bth Ndin CryFans prduce a static head in meters depending n the speed f the fan and the vlume flw prduced by the fan. This is independent f the medium (type f gas) used, as well as the perating pressure. The specific medium and perating pressure will influence the dynamic lsses f the fan. The actual dp generated by the CryFan depends n the density f the specific medium that is being used, s at actual gas temperature and pressure. 9. SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE Service With ur Service Agreements we cver all required (preventive) maintenance t ensure a reliable perating f the SPC-4T. Depending n custmer s persnal needs, the service cncept can be individualized and tailred t the specific requirements. With this apprach we ffer a chice f ptins fr planning and perfrming maintenance. Whether yu re priritizing high levels f prduct safety, want t keep a tight hld n yur maintenance csts at all times, r wish t ptimize yur ttal cst f wnership. Maintenance Each SPC-4T requires preventive (minr) maintenance nly after each 6,000 perating hurs. Specific Cnsumable parts sets are available fr this maintenance (please see ur price qutatin). At 36,000 perating hurs each SPC-4T requires a mre extensive (majr) maintenance. All maintenance inspectins can be dne at site by ur Service engineers. As an ptin, als custmer technicians can be trained t perfrm this maintenance but they need t be fficially certified. A (regular) training at ur premises is mandatry in this case.
