SERVICE PROCEDURE Check the current TCM part number (P/N). IMPORTANT: Before starting, make sure: ASIST on your Toughbook PC has been freshly synchronized (updated). All CONSULT III (C-III) software updates (if any) have been installed. NOTE: C-III automatically gets applicable TCM reprogramming data from ASIST on the Toughbook PC. CAUTION: Connect a battery charger to the vehicle battery. If the 12V battery voltage drops during reprogramming, the TCM may be damaged. Be sure to turn OFF all vehicle electrical loads. If a vehicle electrical load remains ON, the TCM may be damaged. For TCM reprogramming, your CONSULT PC MUST be connected to the VI using the USB cable. Be sure to connect the AC Adapter to your CONSULT PC. If CONSULT PC battery voltage drops during reprogramming, the process will be interrupted and the TCM will be damaged. 3/13 NTB09-044a
1. Make sure the C-III Security Card and PCMCIA Card Adapter are installed. CONSULT-III Card Adapter CONSULT-III Security Card Figure 1 A screen print for Warranty documentation can be done from C-III during this process while still cable-connected to the vehicle. 2. Use the USB cable to connect the Vehicle Interface (VI) to the Toughbook PC, and then connect the VI to the vehicle. CAUTION: For TCM reprogramming, the Toughbook PC MUST be connected to the VI using the USB cable. 3. Turn the ignition ON with the engine off. 4. Open / start ASIST on the Toughbook PC. 5. Click on CONSULT Utilities, and then click on CONSULT-III (picture not shown in this bulletin). 6.
