SAFETY LABELS This page depicts and describes safety symbols that may appear on this product. Read, understand, and follow all instructions on the machine before attempting to assemble and operate. To reduce the risk of injury, keep hands and feet away from spinning parts. Do not operate unless grass catcher or deflecting plate is in its proper place. If damaged, replace immediately. CAN cause serious or fatal injury if the instructions are not followed. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Danger: This machine was built to be operated according to the rules for safe operation included in this manual. As with any type of power equipment, carelessness or error on the part of the operator can result in serious injury. This machine is capable of amputating hands and feet and throwing objects. Failure to observe all safety instructions could result in serious injury or death Training Read this operator s manual carefully in its entirety before attempting to assemble this machine. Read, understand, and follow all instructions on the machine and in the manuals before operation. Be completely familiar with the controls and proper use of this machine before operating it. Keep this manual in a safe place for future and regular reference and for ordering replacement parts. Never allow children to operate a power mower. Only responsible individuals who are familiar with these rules of safe operation should be allowed to use this machine. Use the right appliance Do not use the lawn mower for any job except that for which it is intended. Don t overreach Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Objects struck by the lawn mower spinning spiral blades can cause severe injuries to persons. The lawn should always be carefully examined and cleared of all foreign objects prior to each mowing. Keep the area of operation clear of all persons, particularly small children, and pets. Keep clear of the discharge opening at all times. This machine is a precise piece of power equipment, not a plaything. Therefore, exercise extreme caution at all times. Your unit has been designed to perform one job: to mow grass. Do not use it for any other purpose. Keep in mind that the operator or user is responsible for accidents or hazards occurring to other people or property. 4

Preparation Thoroughly inspect the area where the equipment is to be used and remove all stones, sticks, wires, bones and other foreign objects before mowing, they could be thrown by the spinning spiral blade. Do not operate mower when barefoot or wearing open sandals. Always wear substantial foot wear, and pants or slacks that cover your legs when operating mower. Always wear safety glasses or safety goggles during operation and while performing an adjustment or repair to protect your eyes. Thrown objects that ricochet can cause serious injury to the eyes. Always use a face or dust mask if the operation is dusty. Check the fuel before starting the engine. Do not smoke while fueling the engine. Do not fill the fuel tank indoors, never remove the fuel cap off the fuel tank or add fuel when the engine is running or until it has been allowed to cool for several minutes after running. Clean off any spilled fuel before starting the engine. Disengage clutch drive before starting engine. Never attempt to make a height adjustment while the engine is running. Do not use mower unless all guards are properly in place. Mow only in daylight or good artificial light. Walk, never run while operating. Avoid dangerous environments Don t use reel mowers in damp or wet locations. Inspect the unit to verify the controls, safety switches and shields are attached and functioning properly. Always visually inspect to see that the spiral blades, bottom blades, and hardware in the cutting assembly are not worn or damaged. Replace worn or damaged blades. Do not operate unless they are functioning properly. Operation Disengage all cylinder (spiral blades) and roller drive controls before starting the engine. Do not tilt the mower when starting the engine. Start the engine carefully with feet firmly on the ground and standing right behind the mower unit. Do not put hands or feet near or under spinning parts. Always keep clear of the spinning blades and deflecting opening. Do not change the engine governor settings or over-speed the engine. Excessive speed is dangerous and shortens mower life. Don t mow over heavy or solid objects as striking them with the fast spinning blades can cause serious damage to the cylinder assembly and engine and will void your warranty. After striking a foreign object, stop the engine, remove the wire lead from the spark plug, thoroughly inspect the mower for any damage, and repair the damage before restarting and operating the mower. If the mower should start to vibrate abnormally, stop the engine, disconnect the spark plug wire, and check immediately for the cause. Vibration is generally a warning of trouble. Stop the engine whenever you leave the mower, even for a moment, before cleaning the cylinder assembly and emptying the grass catcher, and when making any repairs or inspections. When cleaning, repairing or inspecting, make certain the blade and all moving parts have stopped and that the engine has had time to cool. Disconnect the spark plug wire, and keep the wire away from the plug to prevent accidental starting. Mow across the face of slopes; never up and down. Exercise extreme caution when changing direction on slopes. Do not mow excessively steep slopes. Never operate the mower without proper guards, deflectors provided by the 5

6 manufacturer, or other safety devices in place. Never pick up or carry a mower when it is operating. Where a fuel tap is fitted, turn it off at the conclusion of mowing and reduce the throttle setting during run out. Do not operate the engine in a confined space where dangerous carbon monoxide fumes can collect. Use extreme caution when reversing or pulling the mower toward you. Stop the blades if the reel mower has to be tilted for transportation when crossing surfaces other than grass, and when transporting the mower to and from the area to be mowed.

CONTENTS OF THE CARTON PART NAME QUANTITY Reel Lawnmower 1 Owner's Manual 1 Engine Owner's Manual 1 Upper Handle Assembly 1 Catcher 1 Cable Ties 2 Compliment Tools 1 ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS Caution: The unit has been carefully assembled with numerous adjustments and quality inspections performed by a team of trained factory technicians who take great pride in their work. To facilitate packaging and shipment, there are components that need to be installed. Note: It is recommended that this unit be set up and checked by an Authorized Dealer. Tools Required???????????? Handle (Fig. 1&2) Cut packing straps carefully, and remove the top section of the carton. Join the two halves of the handle together at the central plate with the nuts and bolts, fit the lower ends of the top handle over the bottom handle and align the holes for the cam lock. Figure 1 Ensure the bolts connecting the handle to the mower frame are also tight. Figure 2 Remove the mower from the base of the carton. Note a few earlier versions will use steel crating, it is suggested that the authorized dealer should unpack and assemble and test the unit before recommending the sales to the cutomers. Throttle Leaver Assembly (Fig. 3) The throttle lever is located at right side of upper handle. Attach throttle lever assembly against the inner side of right upper handle Use Philips head screw across from right to left, tighten the screw. Cables (Fig. 4) Attach the cable clips to secure the throttle cable to the upper and lower handles. Grass Catcher (Fig. 5) Ensure the engine is stopped prior to installing the catcher. The grass catcher is fitted by holding the top of the drum and hooking the bottom section to the guiding pegs, the catcher then sits on the rubber stops either side of the chassis. Before removing the catcher, rotate the clutch lever to the far left (standing behind the mower and facing forward) position to disengage cylinder drive from the engine, or you may choose to stop the engine, in order to remove the catcher for emptying the grass clippings. Lift the catcher from the top section and empty. Figure 3 Figure 4 Figure 5 10

OPERATING CONTROLS Figure 6 Figure 7 Figure 8 11

Fitting and Emptying the Catcher(Fig. 9) WARNING: Turn engine off before fitting or emptying catcher. Ensure the engine is stopped prior to removing the catcher. To remove the catcher, disengage the blade drive Clutch Lever and stop the engine. Lift the catcher from the top section and empty. MOWER OPERATION Before you start Figure 9 Caution: The engine is shipped WITHOUT FUEL and OIL. After assembly, service the engine with petrol and oil as instructed in the separate engine manual packed with your machine. The operator reads and understands this manual. The daily maintenance checks have been properly carried out and the mower is in good working order. Ensure mower is on level ground. Check spark plug lead is connected. Inspect all nuts, bolts and screws and tighten them if necessary. Fit the catcher by hooking the catcher onto the supporting studs on both sides of the cylinder body. Wear garden work apparels and use eye protection preferably. Use ear plugs when operating unit for long hours. Failure to do so could expose you to health and safety hazards. Do not wear high heel footwear. Starting Warning: The clutch must be in disengaging position before starting the engine. Start the engine carefully and always from behind the mower. Keep left hand firmly on the upper handle and use right hand to pull the recoil rope to start the engine. If mower should start to vibrate abnormally, stop the engine and check for the cause. Vibration is generally a sign of trouble. If the engine has not been running recently move the choke control to the ON position. Use primer to prime some fuel into the engine. (Engine models may vary so please refer to the engine manuals for more details). Stand to the right of the mower, grasp the starter grip, pull slowly the rope cord until a resistance is felt and then pull forcefully to prevent kick-back. Repeat until the engine starts. Do not pull the cord with a jerk or release it until fully rewound. When the engine starts and has warmed up for a short time, move the choke to the OFF position and throttle control to the desired speed. Should the engine not start due to flooding, move the Choke control to OFF and pull the starter several times to clear the fuel flooding. Engaging Clutch 12

Turn the Clutch Lever to engage position. Then stand behind the mower and grip squeeze the roller clutch handle to commence the rear drive roller. Move the throttle to RUN position and fine tune the throttle and roller clutch grip to achieve desired walk speed. Note: The reel blade has been adjusted at the factory and there is slight contact with bed-knife in hot running mode. Moisture in the grass clippings will provide Cooling lubrication for the reel blade. Always disengage the clutch (handle) to stop the reel blade if not cutting grass for an extended period of time. Mowing Adjust throttle and Roller clutch handle to find a comfortable propelling speed. Gently pushing the mower while the roller provides a smooth take off and helps eliminate any roller marks on grass Warning: Avoid loss of control or tipping on slopes and sharp corners by reducing speed. Stop the blade when crossing gravel drive, walkways or roads. Warning: If striking a foreign object, stop the engine, remove wire from spark plug, thoroughly inspect mower for damage. Repair damage before restarting engine. Watch out for traffic when working near roadways. Stay alert for uneven sidewalks, holes in terrain or other hidden hazards when using mower. Never operate mower unless all guards are in place. Stopping Slide throttle to slow the engine. Release the Roller Clutch handle and disengage the blade driver lever. Emptying the grass catcher, before making repairs, inspections or adjustments, and when transporting. MOWER ADJUSTMENTS Figure 10 Large Sprocket Lock Nuts Figure 11 13

GENERAL MAINTENANCE Engine Service Check the oil levels on the engine. For Engine servicing, please REFER to the engine manual on consult your local mower dealer. Inspecting and Lubricating the Mower Warning: Never lubricate while engine is running. The following lubrication points should be oiled approximately every 24 hours of operation with SAE30-40 oil. Keep driving chains slight wet rinsed with oil. This lubrication requires the removal of the chain cover, which can be lifted clear after unscrewing the screws. Front roller. Apply oil to roller shaft at each end of the rollers. Height Adjustment Knob. Apply oil on very pivot points. Clutch system. Apply oil on every pivot points. STORAGE AND CLEANING There is a direct relationship between the mower s life and the care and attention given to the mower both during and after operation. It is important that the mower is thoroughly cleaned after use and inspected so that it will be in good working order the next time it is required. Caution: Thoroughly clean the engine externals, the cylinder assembly and bottom blades, the rollers and the grass catcher. Use Caution when use high pressure water jet, especially around the engine, water may be forced into engine internals such as air filter, spark plug and fuel tank. For water cleaning, always dry the units with cloth mop before storage. Water is primary trouble shooting reasons for hard starting of engine, poor lubrication, rust on metal parts. Long Term Storage After each mowing season or if the mower is not going to be used for 30 days or more, it is recommended that the fuel shut off valve be closed off (where fitted) and the fuel tank be drained as volatile fuels today have very short shelf life. The mower should then be started up and run until all of the fuel left in the system is used. While the engine is warm, drain the engine oil and refill with the correct grade to the required level. Remove the spark plug and pour 5ml of engine oil into the engine cylinder, crank slowly to distribute the oil and replace the spark plug. Store the mower in a clean dry area away from direct sunlight. Adjust the cutting reel away from the bottom blade and apply a thin layer of grease to the cutting edges to prevent corrosion through the storage period. If possible, spray the mower with a thin film of light oil to protect it. Always store the mower on a flat, level surface. 16
