NOTE: Flushing the water line in the handpiece can be done by operating the FLUSH valve while either fully depressing or not depressing the foot control. Syringe The syringe is designed to deliver air or water, or a mixture of air and water, as required. To deliver water only, press the button on the syringe marked with a water drop symbol. For air only, press the button on the syringe with no marking. To get a spray mixture of air and water, press both buttons simultaneously. NOTE: Air and water flows are factory preset. For Euro-Style Only If an air or water flow adjustment is wanted, use the following procedure: 1. Grasp the syringe valve body assembly and unscrew the ferrule by turning counterclockwise. Ferrule WET/DRY Toggle Valve Disc Adjustment Screws Foot Control Valve Body 4. Grasp the syringe valve body assembly and slide the ferrule over the metering block. 5. Hand tighten to the valve body. The speed of the handpiece is controlled by depressing the disc located on the foot control. A light pressure on the foot control disc causes a slow speed. Full pressure on the disc causes the handpiece to operate at full speed. NOTE: The coolant water spray ON/OFF function is also controlled by using the toggle valve located on the foot control as described above. Section V Operation Clean Water System (Optional) Operation of the optional clean water system is as follows: Flip the toggle switch (A) to the ON position Assistant's Vacuum Accessories The assistant's arm pivots allowing easy access of instruments Standard instrumentation is one HVE and one saliva ejector Optional features include an additional HVE and/or a three-way syringe Use the pressure adjusting valve (B) to set the air pressure at 40 PSI on the gauge (C) IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not exceed 40 PSI Flip the toggle switch (D) to change usage from bottle water to city water Clean Water Option A D Saliva Ejector Highvolume Evacuator To remove the bottle (E), first flip the toggle switch (A) to the OFF position, then unscrew it from the assembly NOTE: Order kit #3625-613 if desired C B E Syringe HVE and Saliva Ejector The flow of vacuum through the HVE and saliva ejector is controlled by a lever valve Pushing the lever forward, toward the tip, closes the vacuum Chipblower (Optional) HVE Saliva Ejector This feature is used to blow debris away from the cutting site by creating an air blast through the handpiece without causing the bur to rotate To operate the chipblower, depress and hold down the valve on the upper right of the foot control Lever Valve Open Closed Lever Valve Open Closed Fiber Optics (Optional) The fiber optics control is automatically activated by operating the handpiece using the foot control NOTE: When the foot control is released, the fiber optics light will stay on for approximately ten seconds to allow inspection of the cutting site As the lever is moved toward the hose end of the valve, the vacuum flow increases To close the valve, move the lever all the way toward the tip of the valve Syringe NOTE: See the syringe operating instructions on Page 32 axcs Magellan CMU 33

Section VI Care Cleaning The axcs Magellan unit should be cleaned as follows: Wipe frequently with a damp, lint-free cloth. Use a mild detergent to clean stains. CAUTION Do not use abrasive cleaning agents. At the end of the day, turn the master ON/ OFF valve to the OFF position and clean the instrumentation. Each morning, turn the master valve ON and check the air and water system for proper operation using the three-way syringe. NOTE: It is recommended that puncture-resistant nitrile gloves be worn for the following procedures: High-Volume Evacuator (HVE) With the high-volume evacuator vacuum valve in the OFF position, disconnect the valve. Using a brush, clean the interior of the valve under a faucet, and rinse thoroughly. Saliva Ejector Disconnect the saliva ejector valve from the tubing and repeat the procedure described for the HVE. Solids Collector To clean the solids collector, located at the instrument end of the assistant's arm, do the following: 1. Close the vacuum ON/OFF valve. 2. Push the lever on the saliva ejector downward to equalize pressure. 3. Remove the lid by lifting it straight up. 4. Grasp the stem on the basket and lift the basket straight up. 5. Empty debris and wash out the basket with axcs Magellan CMU warm water, then replace the basket and lid. 6. Open the vacuum ON/OFF valve. Clean Water System Empty the bottle at the end of each day. Then before the day's first procedure, fill it with fresh clean water. NOTICE Cleaning brushes and Vac-U-Ez solution can be ordered through DentalEZ dealers. Disinfecting NOTE: After cleaning the high-volume evacuator, saliva ejector and solids collector, evacuate two cups of Vac-U-Ez cleaning solution (one cup each) through the high-volume evacuator and saliva ejector to sanitize the system. CAUTION Avoid using disinfectants in spray containers because they may cause premature staining, discoloration and/or damage to the unit. Liquid disinfectants are recommended for use on all axcs Magellan external surfaces and should be applied using a soft, clean cloth. CAUTION Do not use disinfectants that contain any of the following: Iodophors Glutaraldehydes Phenols Sodium Hypochlorites Use extreme caution when selecting the proper chemical disinfectant for the axcs Magellan CMU. NOTE: *Cavicide is the recommended disinfectant for use on all external surfaces. *Cavicide is a trademark of Micro Aseptic Products, Inc. CAUTION Be sure not to exceed a temperature of 275º F. 34 Installation, Operation and Care Manual

Section VII User Service Information A fold-out, full-color axcs Magellan delivery system tubing diagram is located at the end of this manual. The following charts should be used when troubleshooting operational problems. If these suggested troubleshooting procedures do not resolve the problem, see the Service Instruction on Page 39. WARNING Exercise extreme caution when troubleshooting the electrical components of the axcs Magellan CMU. When testing, always disconnect the external power. When electrical power is required, safety precautions must be followed. S ymptom Possible Cause(s) Delivery Head Solution Unit will not turn on. No air to master switch. Faulty master switch. Faulty air pilot valve. Open stop valve in floor utility box. Open and adjust air regulator to 80 PSI. Check for pinched red 1/8" tubing in arms. Turn switch on and verify air flow. Verify an air supply to top fitting of valve. Unit has no electric power. Tripped circuit breaker. No building power. If air is present at top fitting of valve, verify air to foot control tubing. If no air at tubing, valve is defective. Reset circuit breaker on power module in USC. Check main circuit supply. Faulty eletric switch. Contact electrician.
