Tujuan Memastikan proses menyambung dan memutuskan kuasa dapat berjalan lancar. Sistem clutch dapat berfungsi dengan sempurna. Penukaran gear berjalan lancar. Mengelakkan kerosakan pada komponen yang lain (gear, roda tenaga, dll).

FUNGSI KOMPONEN Release Bearing. bearing ini akan menolak bahagian dalam clutch bearing ini akan menolak bahagian dalam clutch ( tuil pelepas / diaphram spring) selepas pedal clutch ditekan. permukaan depan release bearing terdapat alas pelepas yang diperbuat daripada graphite; yang bertujuan untuk mengurangkan kehausan dan kepanasan.

FUNGSI KOMPONEN Clutch Cover Tujuan utama Clutch Cover adalah untuk menyambung dan memutuskan sambungan kuasa enjin Ia mesti seimbang ketika berputar. pressure plate dan spring ( diaphram / coil) disertakan bersama. Diikat pada fly wheel dan berpusing bersama-sama dengan clutch plate, pressure plate dan bahagian lain

FUNGSI KOMPONEN Pressure Plate Pressure plate berfungsi menekan clutch plate pada flywheel dalam kedudukan gandingan. Pada kedudukan ini, geseran di antara flywheel dan pressure plate & clutch plate berlaku, dan menyebabkan ia berputar bersama-sama.

Terdapat 2 jenis pressure plate yang digunakan di dalam kenderaan iaitu : i. Pressure Plate jenis diaphram spring biasa digunakan pada kereta biasa dan kecil. Jika mengalami kerosakan akan ditukar keseluruhannya. ii. Pressure Plate jenis coil spring biasa digunakan pada kenderaan yang lebih besar seperti kereta pacuan 4 roda atau lori. Jika mengalami kerosakan spring,hanya spring yang perlu ditukar ganti dan perlu dibuat pelarasan semula.

FUNGSI KOMPONEN Clutch plate / Disc Komponen yang menghubungkan permukaan geseran terhadap fly wheel dan pressure plate Tortional Spring Permukaan clutch diperbuat dengan bahan yang sama sebagaimana brake lining iaitu bahan asasnya iaitu asbestos. Bahan kimia lain juga ditambah untuk mendapatkan geseran yang baik, heat resistance dan juga ketahanannya. Untuk mendapatkan pergerakan clutch yang lebih lancar, steel plate (cushion segment) dibuat berlekuk-lekuk di tengah-tengah lining. Lining dirivet pada segmen ini yang mana geseran akan hilang diserap oleh cushion apabila clutch ditekan. Keadaan ini juga akan menambahkan lagi pergeseran apabila clutch ditekan.

How the clutch works It transmits engine power to the gearbox, and allows transmission to be interrupted while a gear is selected to move off from a stationary position, or when gears are changed while the car is moving.

Hydraulic clutch system Most cars use a friction clutch operated either by fluid (hydraulic) or, more commonly, by a cable. When a car is moving under power, the clutch is engaged. A pressure plate bolted to the flywheel exerts constant force, by means of a diaphragm spring, on the driven plate. Earlier cars have a series of coil springs at the back of the pressure plate, instead of a diaphragm spring. The driven (or friction) plate runs on a splined input shaft, through which the power is transmitted to the gearbox.

The plate has friction linings, similar to brake linings, on both its faces. This allows the drive to be taken up smoothly when the clutch is engaged. When the clutch is disengaged (pedal depressed), an arm pushes a release bearing against the centre of the diaphragm spring which releases the clamping pressure. The outer part of the pressure plate, which has a large friction surface, then no longer clamps the driven plate to the flywheel, so the transmission of power is interrupted and gears can be changed.

When the clutch pedal is released, the thrust bearing is withdrawn and the diaphragm-spring load once again clamps the driven plate to the flywheel to resume the transmission of power. Some cars have a hydraulically operated clutch. Pressure on the clutch pedal inside the car activates a pistoning a master cylinder, which transmits the pressure through a fluid-filled pipe to a slave cylinder mounted on the clutch housing. The slave-cylinder piston is connected to the clutch release arm.
