July 2010 Pullman / Great Northern Road Number none / Glacier New N Scale 12-1 Heavyweight Sleepers This 83 heavyweight 12-1 sleeper is painted Pullman Green with gold logo and lettering. It was built by Pullman Standard in 1910 and runs on six-wheel passenger trucks. From 1910 through 1930 Pullman built over 8,000 steel sleeping, parlor and club/lounge cars: almost half of these were the famous 12 section 1 drawing room ( 12-1 ) sleepers. The introduction of the steel cars brought the end of the luxurious, artisan-crafted, and custom designed wooden cars which had been the rule since the 1880s. With the opening of the Pennsylvania Station in New York in 1910 and the Grand Central Terminal in 1913, passenger safety in the tunnels approaching these buildings demanded a more noncombustible material. This Pullman heavyweight sleeper is painted Pullman Green with Empire Builder logo and lettering in metallic gold. It was built in 1910 by Pullman-Standard and runs on six wheel passenger trucks. Great Northern #142 00 020...$22.70 Pennsylvania Road Number PRR 260665 This aluminum Evans 3-Bay covered hopper has fixed, elongated hatches wears the black Pennsylvania Keystone logo and lettered in black. It runs on black Barber roller bearing trucks. These cars were similar to a series of class H47 hoppers built earlier, with a capacity of 200,000 lbs and volume capacity of 4750cu. ft. This car wears the Plain Keystone paint scheme used from late 1961 through 1968. The paint scheme is devoid of the large Pennsylvania lettering and used the keystone logo with large, gothic reporting marks. An additional note on the side of the car warns not use the car to transport caustics, such as lime. Boston & Maine Road Number BM 910 This 50 standard box car with sliding door, no roofwalk and tall ladders is painted blue with black Superior doors and sills, and aluminum roof. It is lettered in white with white herald and black lettering in the DF logo. It was built in July 1968 by the Evans Car Co. and leased from U.S. Railway Equipment Co. It runs on Barber Roller Bearing trucks. Boston & Maine leased 100 (series 900-999) boxcars equipped with Hydra-Cushion underframes and DF belt rails to protect the loading. Produced at the dawn of the 20th Century, disconnect log cars were the backbone of a number of standard and narrow gauge railroads throughout the Western United States. Lyndon Johnson Presidential Car Road Number 1963-1969 This 40 standard box car with plug door and no roofwalk is car #23 of a 44-car series representing each of the presidents of the United States. It bears the portrait of our 36th president, Lyndon Johnson. The car comes with a commemorative pin replicated from this era. Johnson was responsible for designing the Great Society legislation that included laws that upheld civil rights, public broadcasting, Medicare, Medicaid, environmental protection, aid to education, and his War on Poverty. Simultaneously, he greatly escalated direct involvment in the Vietnam War. Canadian Pacific (CP Rail) Road Number CP 166192 This 50 rib side box car with plug door and no roofwalk is painted CP Action Yellow with black CP Rail logo and lettered in black. It runs on black Barber roller bearings. Built November 1966 by National Steel Car and last serviced by CP in 1980, this car boasts Movable Bulkheads, 3 thick insulation and is equipped with thermostatically controlled alcohol heaters. These boxcars were CP s first modern design with exterior posts, adding interior insulation, saving space and weight. The door is painted reefer yellow with DF-2 loader symbols. It runs on Bettendorf trucks. This box car was rebuilt in November 1968 with improvements, including a 10 door. The series 507400-507416, of which this class B-50-60 box car was a member, was equipped with a nine-belt DF-2 loader. This brown 30 flat car has white lettering and runs on brown Arch Bar trucks. The Southern Pacific narrow gauge is the informal name given to a network of narrow gauge railroad lines operated by the Southern Pacific Railroad (SP) in western Nevada and eastern California. The SP narrow gauge system operated on the tracks of the former Carson and Colorado Railroad, purchased in 1900 by the Southern Pacific, which continued to operate it as the Carson and Colorado. The name of the railroad was changed to Nevada and California Railway on May 11, 1905 and in 1912 the name was again changed to Southern Pacific. It bears the Hermit Thrush and Red Clover, Vermont s official state bird and flower. The flag of the state of Vermont is in the background. The road number 1791 represents the year the Green Mountain State was admitted into the union. Milwaukee Road Road Numbers 163 / 167 These SD40-2 powered locomotives are painted black and decorated with a large MILW orange band on the side. The cabs are decorated with the red, white & black slanted The Milwaukee Road logo, and Milwaukee Road letters are painted on the nose. MILW 2635 classed as RBL and is part of the 2600-2654 fifty car series. This series has specially equipped interiors and is not suitable for general service.
