5 Configuration Profiles & Configurations 5 Configuration 5.1 Understanding Profiles and Configurations It s important to understand the terms profile and configuration. A profile is a pre-built file that can be loaded onto the ECU and serves as a starting point for your machine. A configuration is a profile that has been customized with settings and has been saved and stored on the ECU. Configurations are machine specific and should not be used on a different piece of equipment. 5.2 Choosing a Profile The default profile for your ECU is Liquid Fertilizer/Sprayer with a Standard Servo setup. If this is the setup for your bar, you have completed the installation process. For instructions on setup and calibration, see Sections 5 and 6 of the Operating Instruction Manual. If the Liquid Fertilizer/Sprayer with a Standard Servo and 5 boom sections is not applicable for your use, please choose one of the options below. Option 1 - Download a pre-built profile from the USB drive using the Downloadbox. This step requires the ME Download Box. Please proceed to the Download Box Instruction Manual. The Download Box Manual will provide you step by step instructions to upload the proper ECU profile. 22

5 Configuration Fence Rows Choosing one of these pre-built profiles will get your settings close, but you will still need to make adjustments during the calibration steps in the Operating Instruction Manual. Option 2 - If none of the pre-built profiles work for your setup, you need to go through the manual configuration steps in Section 6. 5.3 Fence Rows Using fence rows affects the installation and setup of your sprayer. If you are using the fence row options, connect the left-hand fence row nozzle to boom section 1 on your harness. Plug your first boom valve into boom section 2 on your harness. Continue this process for all of your sections. Connect the righthand fence row nozzle into the boom section following your last boom valve. The maximum number of sections for the Liquid ECU is 10 with 2 fence row nozzles. For additional information on setting up Fence Rows, see Section 5.5.1 in the Operation Manual. See the diagram below. 24

Maximum Speed This value is the maximum speed that the control system will operate and will trigger Road Mode if you exceed the maximum speed. Snap to Rate This value will adjust the applied rate that the operator will see. When the actual rate is with the set snap to rate value, the target rate will be displayed. Simulation Placing a checkmark on Simulation puts the ECU for demo purposes. When in Simulation mode, normal operations will not output as expected. 6.5 Features Page 3 Product Valve Master or Dump Valve selection: No Master/Dump Valve, Master Valve, or Dump Valve. When the Dump Valve is selected, the valve will open when not applying. 30

Manual Configuration Controller Settings 6 Boost Pump Put a checkmark in this section if the system is setup for use a boost pump. Control PWM Base Freq This value sets the base frequency output for the PWM controller. 6.6 Checks before changing Calibration Settings PID tuning is done in steps to isolate the effect of each change. Unless you are very familiar with a system and have a plot of feedback and control do not change more than one parameter at a time when tuning. On a new system or one that is giving problems, operate the system manually at several operating points and observe that the feedback is stable and consistent. This may be driving the system at a constant PWM or manually open-ing and closing a servo valve. If the feedback is varying by more than 10-15% when given a constant output, there may be a problem with the feedback sensor or system. Pick a set point that is approximately midway between the maximum and minimum operating points. This is when a simulated speed is useful. 6.7 Controller Settings (time-based) When the control type is set to time-based, the following calibration values will be available to adjust. Values in the boxes above are the factory default settings Below are the descriptions of the different values to change, and how to adjust them based off of the feedback 31

6 Manual Configuration Controller Settings Starts at the min ms rate, then it will look at the error and will get added to it, until it gets to saturation. The integrator will add to it. P: This is a portion of the loop that is proportional to the amount of time the error is present. I: This is a portion of the loop that accumulates previous errors. It is the memory of the control loop. For each loop cycle, the integrator adds the current error to the previous integrator value. Dead band: the allowable value that NO controlling/corrections will be made to the control valve. A low number may result in oscillation around the target rate. High number may result in not achieving the target rate Minimum/maximum time: min/ms is the value the output will start from no matter how much correction is needed. Max/ms is the max value the output will reach once saturation of the output has been reached. On the bottom of the screen is all the information the technician will need in order to finetune control valve. Target flow: the gal/min value the system is attempting to achieve. Current flow: the gal/min value the system is reading from the flow meter Deviation: the difference between the target and current flow Output: the value of the output being sent to the control valve 6.7 Controller Settings (PWM) Values in the boxes above are the default settings 32

7 Setup Verification Speed Verification 7 Verification of Installation & Setup The final step of the installation process is to go through the checklist below to confirm and double-check that your system is ready for operation. 1. The first step is to test drive the tractor and verify that the ground speed is functioning and accurate. While traveling at a consistent speed, confirm that the tractor display or tractor A-post speed matches the speed displayed in the Universal Terminal. There are two common sources for speed discrepancy. a. If the firmware on the Tractor ECU and/or the display is not up-todate, you may be getting an inaccurate speed reading. Once the ISOBUS system is installed, the tractor is now receiving speed from this source. Update the Tractor ECU and display firmware to the latest release to guarantee your ISOBUS system is correctly communicating the tractor speed. b. If the tractor speed is not correctly calibrated, you may see a discrepancy between the A-post speedometer speed and the ISOBUS display speed. Because the ISOBUS speed is a very reliable source, the solution is to use the manufacturer s method to calibrate your vehicle s speed. 34

Setup Verification Sections 7 2. Verify that you have the correct number of sections by counting the blue bars on the Universal Terminal. The example below has five boom valve sections setup. 3. Double-check that your valves are in the correct order and are opening and closing correctly. Use the soft key buttons on Universal Terminal to verify this. 4. Make sure that you have the correct flow calibration number entered into the display. If the flow meter calibration number is incorrect, the system will not apply an accurate amount of product. 35

7 Setup Verification Flow Calibration Liquid Fertilizer & Sprayer Raven flow meters for liquid fertilizer measure pulses per 10 gallons. The ISOBUS System measures pulses per gallon. For the correct calibration number, you must take the number on the flow meter tag and divide it by 10. 1750 (flow meter tag) 10 (pulses/10 gallons) = 175 175 is your flow meter calibration number. Enter this number into the Meter Cal on your display. Anhydrous Ammonia Raven flow meters for Anhydrous Ammonia pulses of ammonia lbs. per unit of 10. For the correct calibration number, you must take the number on the flow meter tag and divide it by 10, multiply it by 0.82, and multiply it by your NH3 density. 170 (flow meter tag) 10 (Raven pulses/unit) = 17 17 (pulses/nh3) x 0.82 (lbs. of N) = 13.94 (pulses/n) 13.94 x 5.2 (NH3 density per Raven) = 72.488 Rounding to the nearest tenth, 72.5 is your flow meter calibration number. Enter this number into the Meter Cal on your display. 36

Setup Verification Pressure Sensor & External Work Switch 7 5. If a pressure sensor is installed, run a pressure sensor check in Diagnostics. + 6. If a foot switch or external work switch is installed, verify that the switch is validating correctly on Universal Terminal. The screenshot below on the left shows the sections turned off. The screenshot below on the right shows the sections turned on. 37
