IN THE BOX NAVIGATING THE MENUS The Programmer Depending on the model of your motorcycle, your device will have either a: 4 PIN connection (J1850) or 6 PIN connection (CAN) USB Cable Use the buttons to navigate the menus: The up/down buttons are used to scroll to each menu option, while the left/right buttons are used to move between menus. The OK button OK is used to select items within the menu options. UPDATE YOUR PROGRAMMER Download the Spark update software 1. Go to www.superchips.com and move your mouse icon over the CUSTOMER SUPPORT tab towards the top of the page. In the drop down menu click Download Product Update Software. 2. Click the DOWNLOAD button located below the logo. 3. Click the Run button on the pop-up menu. 4. Read and Accept the License Agreement terms. Click the Install Button, then the Finish button once the download is complete. (NOTE: The first time using Spark, you will be required to fill out a registration form). Updating your programmer 5. Double click the Spark Icon located on your computer s desktop. You will be asked to Connect Device. 6. Connect your device to the computer using the supplied USB cable. Spark will automatically search for updates related to your device. If an update is found and available, click the Update button to proceed. CAUTION: Do not unplug the device while it is being updated. 7. Once the update is complete, you will be informed that it is safe to disconnect your device. 4 4 UPDATE YOUR PROGRAMMER Download the Spark update software 1. CONNECT WITH THE MOTORCYCLE POSSIBLE SIDE LOCATION SIDE PANEL REMOVED CONNECTOR NOTE: Not all models have a side panel. LOCATE THE GRAY DATA PORT CONNECTOR The location of this connector depends on the model of your motorcycle. The first location to check is under the seat. If a connector is not there, remove the side panel and continue to look. Do not confuse the data port connector with the accessory connector. These two connectors often look the same. POSSIBLE LOCATIONS UNDER THE SEAT IF PCM ON FENDER IF PCM ON BATTERY CONNECTOR CONNECTOR 5 CONNECT WITH THE MOTORCYCLE POSSIBLE SIDE LOCATION SIDE PANEL REMOVED CONNECTOR NOTE: Not all models have a side panel. 6 6 TUNE YOUR MOTORCYCLE After you have connected the device to the motorcycle, you are ready to tune. On the Motorcycle: 1. Turn the run switch to the RUN position. 2. Turn the IGNITION on. The motorcycle gauges will illuminate, and the programmer screen will turn on. On the Vigilante Device: 3. From the MAIN MENU highlight TUNE VEHICLE using the UP/DOWN buttons. Press the OK button. 4. After communication with the motorcycle has been established, a list of EXHAUST MANUFACTURERS will be made available. 5. Use the UP/DOWN buttons to scroll to the option that best fits your application and press OK. 6. Once a manufacturer has been specified, a list of EXHAUST MODELS will be made available to choose from. Highlight the model that best fits your exhaust, then press OK. (NOTE: If the correct manufacturer is not available, choose OTHER MANUFACTURER. A list of generic exhaust models will be given. Choose the type that best fits your application and press OK). (NOTE: If the correct manufacturer is not available, choose OTHER MANUFACTURER. A list of intake models will be given. Choose the type that best fits your application, and press OK). 9. Based on the exhaust and intake models you chose, a calibration file(s) will be made available. Highlight the file name and press the OK button to proceed. 10. When asked to Install Tuning? Highlight YES, and press the OK button. 11. Continue to follow all on-screen instructions. DO NOT unplug the device during the programming sequence. If power is lost during programming, the device will go into recovery mode and return your motorcycle to factory stock. If this occurs, contact Customer Service for assistance at 407.585.7000. ADDITIONAL FEATURES The Additional Features allow you to check the current status of your motorcycle. Identify Vehicle This feature allows your Vigilante device to gather the specific information regarding your motorcycle. Diagnostics The Diagnostics Tool allows you to check and clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). HELPFUL HINT A DTC arises when a motorcycle s computer detects a sensor failure or a parameter outside a specific range. If a DTC persists, this could indicate a vehicle malfunction. We recommend seeking a qualified professional in resolving the issue. Program the vehicle back to stock prior to service. 8 ADDITIONAL FEATURES The Additional Features allow you to check the current status of your motorcycle. TUNER INFO & SETTINGS The Tuner Info & Settings menu provides information regarding your Vigilante tuner as well as your motorcycle. Vehicle Information Displays the current tune, the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), as well as the Software Level. Tuner Information This information tells you everything you need to know about your Vigilante device. This information will be used by our technical support staff during any tech call. Cal File Information These settings display the choices made during the Tuning process. TUNER INFO & SETTINGS The Tuner Info & Settings menu provides information regarding your Vigilante tuner as well as your motorcycle. Vehicle Information Displays the current tune, the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), as well as the Software Level. Tuner Information This information tells you everything you need to know about your Vigilante device. This information will be used by our technical support staff during any tech call. Cal File Information These settings display the choices made during the Tuning process. 9 9

TUNER INFO & SETTINGS CONT D Display Settings Set Contrast This setting adjusts the screen content visibility. The display settings allow you to customize the look and feel of your Vigilante device. To modify each of the available settings, use the UP/DOWN arrow buttons to adjust the setting, then press OK to save the changes. Set Backlight Set Scroll Speed This setting adjusts the brightness of the backlight. This setting adjusts how the UP/DOWN scrolling behaves. 10 TUNER INFO & SETTINGS CONT D Display Settings Set Contrast This setting adjusts the screen content visibility. The display settings allow you to customize the look and feel of your Vigilante device. To modify each of the available settings, use the UP/DOWN arrow buttons to adjust the setting, then press OK to save the changes. 10 Set Backlight Set Scroll Speed This setting adjusts the brightness of the backlight. This setting adjusts how the UP/DOWN scrolling behaves.

TROUBLE SHOOTING When I plug my Vigilante Device into my motorcycle, it does not power on. Solution: Check that both the RUN and IGNITION switches are on. If the device does not power on after both switches are turned on, you may have connected the device to the wrong motorcycle connector. See the CONNECT WITH THE MOTORCYCLE section of this manual for more information. My vehicle has been programmed by another tuning product and now my Vigilante Device doesn t work. Solution: The Vigilante Device checks to make sure your vehicle is 100% factory stock before programming. If your vehicle has been programmed by another tuning product, you will have to return your vehicle to factory stock before attempting to use the Vigilante. My Vigilante displays status G-6F. Solution: The error code is a General Database Error. It means your programmer does not have a complete database. Update your programmer using the Internet Update Tool Spark. TROUBLE SHOOTING When I plug my Vigilante Device into my motorcycle, it does not power on. Solution: Check that both the RUN and IGNITION switches are on. 12 12 TROUBLE SHOOTING CONT D My Vigilante Device did not complete programming and went into recovery mode. Solution: The Vigilante devices are designed with Recovery Mode which means if, for any reason, the programming process does not finish, the programmer will automatically program your motorcycle back to the factory stock settings. It is necessary to follow the screen prompts, possibly requiring several Ignition On and Ignition Off sequences. When recovery is complete your motorcycle is at factory stock. You are now able to start your motorcycle normally. You may attempt to program your vehicle again. In the event that recovery is unsuccessful or it fails to complete the programming cycle, a status message will display on the device. Please make note of the message displayed and contact Superchips Customer Service at 407.585.7000. I left Vigilante tuning on my motorcycle and went to my dealer for service, now my programmer will not work. Solution: The dealership likely updated your vehicle s calibrations sometimes to improve driveability, emissions or safety features and saved over the Superchips tuning. The programmer does not recognize the new files in your vehicle. Contact Superchips Customer Service at 407.585.7000 to correct the situation. TROUBLE SHOOTING CONT D My Vigilante Device did not complete programming and went into recovery mode. Solution: The Vigilante devices are designed with Recovery Mode which means if, for any reason, the programming process does not finish, the programmer will automatically program your motorcycle back to the factory stock settings.
