1 Course outline 1.1 Engineering Analysis with CFD Flow and Aero-dynamic analyis around car body and aerofoil Flow Analysis in hydraulic valves, nozzle, mixer and air - diffuser Thermal analysis Heat Exchanger, boiler, HVAC problems Analysis of turbo-machine, compressor & Fans etc. Conceptual Understanding of Fluid mechanics, Heat transfer,navier-stoke's equation, finite Volume and other CFD techniques solving through software and programming Project 2.Offered Mini Projects We will be providing from 2 to 3 months to the students, The project will be covering a broad area both from (FEA/CFD) Structural as well as fluid and thermal analysis. So as to mention some of the major projects that students can undertake are as follows. 2.1 CFD Projects Field of applications: Gear box, Passenger car for aerodynamic drag reduction, Intake Port in diesel engine, Rear spoiler on a car, automotive exhaust system, Automotive radiator, Louvred fin compact heat exchanger, Aerodynamic trailer devices for drag Reduction of heavy duty trucks, Air induction systems, wind tunnel, HVAC mixing box, Heat and air flow inside a refrigerator, Heat exchanger, Helical coil heat exchanger. Type of Analysis in CFD Projects: Thermal analysis, Pressure analysis, Flow analysis, Heat transfer analysis, Velocity analysis, Combustion analysis, Particulate Tracking, Conduction in solids, Steady state & Unsteady steady state analysis, Unsteady state Transient analysis, Flow thermal analysis, etc. 2

3 List of problems for CFD workshop 1. Flow through valves In this project the velocity and pressure difference is analysed. 2. Analysis of air flow over sports car The main purpose of this analysis is to study the velocity and pressure difference across the car under the wind tunnel condition. 3. Flow Analysis of a Venturi Injector In this project an internal laminar fluid flow through a venturi injector is analysed. 3

4. External flow around a submarine Simulate external flow around a submarine and study the flow behavier over the submarine surface. 5. Flow through carburator In this project to study the thermal-flow effect on the choke and oscillator in the carburator. 6. Flow through an air intake maniflod This project shows an example of how the internal airflow through an air intake can be analyzed. 7. Flow analysis in a mixing diffuser Simulation study of mixing behavier and pressure drop character of the gases. 4

8. Transient wake development behind boat This simulation models the transient formation of wakes behind a boat in water. 9. Aerodynamic analysis of a SemiTruck Trailer vehicle The project simulates external aerodynamics of a Semi-truck trailer vehicle via steady state turbulent flow analysis with the K-Omega SST model for turbulence modeling. 10. Transient Simulation of an Exhaust Manifold Study the Flow Behavier of exchaust gas in Exhaust Manifold. 11. Reatachment flow: Flow over a Backward-facing Step The flow of air over a backwardfacing step is simulated, and the reattachment length is analysed. 5

Scalar Transport in T-Junction Pipe The purpose of this numerical simulation is to validate the scalar mixing distribution of incompressible Single Phase Scalar Transport in a T-junction pipe. 13. Aerodynamics analysis of a Formula One F1 Race car Study the flow Separation of air over the car body. 14. Fluid flow analysis of a pipe junction To study the mixing of same fluids with different velocity. 6

15. Pipeline Network This simulation captures the nuances of turbulent pipe flow. Flow phenomena at bends, junctions and nozzles are visualized. 16. 18. HVAC analysis of aircraft cabin In this Project, Simulating Air flow inside the Cabine in order to find the pressure and velocity Distribution in the Cabin. 19. Gas flow through catalytic converter and exhaust Flow Simulation of Gas in Exchaust Pipe, To Find the Pressure Drop And Velocity Distribution in the flow passage. 20. Turbulent Pipe Flow The simulation validates the incompressible turbulent flow solver for the k-epsilon and komega SST turbulence models. 8

21. Hagen-Poiseuille Flow The aim of this project is to validate the velocity and pressure parameters of incompressible steady-state laminar fluid flow through a pipe 22. Air flow within a hall The simulation was set up using the analysis type for steady-state, natural convection flow in the winter season. 23. Airflow through an inlet duct An inlet duct with three additional turning vanes is analysed. The additional turning vanes in the corner to adjust the air flow through it. 24. Server room cooling The air temperature and velocity inside a server room is analyzed using a thermo-fluid analysis type on code-saturne. 30.
