RED THIS FIRST: THIS ISTRUCTIO EFET SHOUD BE RED I COJUCTIO WITH THE USER ISTRUCTIOS FOR THE FITTIG ITO WHICH YOU RE ISTIG THE GER TRY This emergency control gear must be installed by a competent person. This emergency control gear has been designed for installation into the Eterna range of circular bulkhead light fittings (code CF28CR/MS/WH) which has been designed specifically to allow conversion for emergency use. This emergency control gear may be incorporated into any other fitting that has been designed for emergency use, providing that the fitting is sufficiently large to allow circulation of air inside and correct dissipation of any build up of heat. For protection against possible electric shock, it must be fixed so that it is not possible to touch any live part (including the terminals) when opening the fitting to change the lamp. Use of this gear inside any fitting other than that for which it was specifically designed (see model reference above) may invalidate any warranty given at the time of purchase. s the buyer, installer and/or user of this product it is your own responsibility to ensure that this ballast is fit for the purpose for which you have intended it. Eterna ighting cannot accept any liability for loss, damage or premature failure resulting from inappropriate use. This product is designed and constructed according to the principles of the appropriate British Standards and is intended for normal service. Use of this ballast in any other environment where higher than normal ambient temperatures are likely may result in a foreshortened working life for example lighting public or shared spaces or in nursing / care home facilities. If the product is controlled with a PIR this can also shorten the lifetime of the ballast and the lamp. Disconnect the fitting from the electrical supply before flash or high voltage testing. This product is designed for permanent installation in a light fitting which should be connected to a dedicated constant live supply for battery charging and switched live supply for operation of the lamp. This circuit should be protected with a 5 or 6 mp MCB or fuse. When making connections, ensure that the terminals clamp the stripped conductors securely and that no strands of wire protrude. Check that the terminals are tightened onto the bared conductors and not onto any insulation. This product must be connected to Earth. You are advised at every stage of your installation to double-check any electrical connections you have made. OTE: Very frequent switching can shorten the life of the lamp. If lighting controls are used with this product (e.g PIR or mircowave sensor) then to minimise this, it is recommended to adjust the time to the maximum setting. The lamps (bulbs/tubes) & batteries supplied with this fitting are consumable parts and therefore may be outside of any warranty offered. ISTTIO: Insert loose battery wire into the ballast. (See Fig. 3 opposite). Fit the gear tray to your light fitting according to the instructions supplied with the light fitting. Make connections according to Fig. 1 & 2 below: Fig 1 - USWITCHED MITIED UIT Remove link to make it non-mantained Fig 2 - SWITCHED MITIED UIT 1 SW Switch supply 1 1 Connections to the ballast/inverter control unit are made as shown in Fig. 3 opposite. Fit a lamp and reassemble the fitting according to the instructions supplied with the fitting. Terminate wires as above and restore the power and switch on. Green ED will indicate healthy charging circuit. BTTERY REPCEMET: If after routine operation check, the lamp does not remain lit for the three hour period, a new battery pack may be required. Switch off the electricity at the mains. llow batteries to fully discharge then reconnect to supply and allow to charge for 24 hours. Test again for 3 hours, if light does not remain lit change the battery pack as follows: Remove the diffuser and trim (Eterna CF28 range). oosen the three screws indicated on the gear tray, slide and lift off. Unplug the battery lead from the ballast (push fit connectors). Undo the two screws that secure the battery pack in place and remove battery pack from the gear tray. Fig 3 - WIRIG DIGRM Brown: Switchable Blue: eutral Brown: Unwitched Yellow / Green: Earth Pink + ED +VE ED +++ Pink - ED -VE indicator - - - Red: Battery +VE Black: Battery -VE Emergency Module OPERTIO CHECKS: Periodic testing should be carried out to ensure emergency lighting is operating correctly. Interruption of the supply, causing the fitting to be energised from the battery, should be carried out by the operation of a local keyswitch or other isolation device. During this period all fittings should be examined visually to ensure that they are functioning correctly. t the end of the test period the supply shall be restored and all indicator lamps or devices checked to ensure that the normal supply has been restored. DIY: Visual inspection of the battery charge ED. ECH MOTH: Isolate the power supply for a period sufficient to ensure that each lamp is illuminated. Endorse the test record form supplied. OCE ECH YER: Isolate the power supply and check that the light is still illuminated after 3 hours. Endorse the test record form. Because of the possibility of a failure of the normal lighting supply occurring shortly after a period of testing of the emergency lighting system or during the subsequent recharge period, all full duration tests shall wherever possible be undertaken preceding time of low risk to allow for battery recharge. OTE: please keep this instruction booklet and the test record in a safe place. fire officer or other authorised person may want to see your record of inspection and testing. IMPORTT OTES: The ballast and control gear must be operated only within the enclosure supplied. The gear must not be operated outside of the enclosure. The battery charging circuit and DC ballast are separated from the mains by at least basic (single layer) insulation. When energised by a constant mains supply, the battery will be constantly charged whether or not the lamp is illuminated. On failure of the constant mains supply, the fitting will switch automatically using transistorised switching from battery charging to battery discharge powering the lamp whether or not the lamp was illuminated before the power failure. Both the mains and battery supplies incorporate fuse protection: see fitting for location and rating.
