Business Aviation Commitments - Climate Change Through organizations like NBAA, GAMA and IBAC Business Aviation has committed to being good Stewards of the Environment. Press Release On November 24, 2009 Commitment is based on 4 pillars Improved Technology Improved Infrastructure & Operations Use of Alternative Fuels Market Based Measures 9 9
Aviation s Part of Global CO2 Emissions Business Aviation is reported to be approximately 2% of all Aviation s CO2 emissions. So 2% of 2%..or 0.04% of the Global CO2 Emissions Business Aviation may be a small contributor, but it is a growing industry and very visible! Sustainability at Gulfstream Gulfstream has a long history of product improvement in noise, emissions and fuel burn Since 2010 Gulfstream has enhanced this effort via implementation of a sustainability programs throughout our business with the goal of developing a world-class sustainability program Sustainability is now part of Gulfstream s culture of continuous improvement Recognized in the top 100 Aviation Climate Solutions published by the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG) 11
Renewable Fuels: Our Story 2008: DOD began certification effort of all their aircraft contacted Gulfstream 2009: Actively engaged in the renewable fuels effort by industry 2011: The G450 became the first aircraft to make a transatlantic flight on renewable fuel Blended fuel was not certified 2012: Flew the entire in-production fleet to a major airshow (NBAA) on renewable fuels Certified fuel based 50/50 blend renewable fuel and Jet-A After two demonstration flights what s next 12
Search For A Regular Supply of Renewable Fuel 2013: Initiated discussions with Refineries/Suppliers Considered only certified fuels Drop in fuel Considered only 2 nd generation alternative fuels Request for proposal (RFP) Must meet sustainability requirements Evaluate the Suppliers ability to provide Regular Supply Cost Logistics Infrastructure options (Savannah, other) 2015: Picked a supplier 13
Gulfstream s Renewable Fuels Program 2015: Gulfstream signed a 3 year agreement for blended renewable fuel with World Fuel Services Made using the same certified process as our previous flights Each batch is tested to confirm it meets ASTM D1655 specification Certificate of Analysis has 22 fuel tests per ASTM Density, aromatics, sulfur, freezing point, flash point, etc 30% renewable fuel with 70% Jet-A (30/70 blend) Blending accounts for both cost and technical specification Storing separately to maintain fuel blend ratio Allows for better tracking per aircraft fuel load The blended fuel can be combined with Jet-A (commingled) 14
Certified & Environmentally Friendly Robust Fuel Better Air Quality Certification Meets ASTM D1655 Less Sulfur & Particulates 15 Less CO2 Based on LCA 30/70 Blend
Gulfstream s Renewable Fuels Program Sustainability Life-cycle Analysis (LCA) results will realize a 50% to 70% reduction in CO 2 emissions for every gallon of renewable fuel (16.7% - 23.3% for every gallon of blended fuel) Meets US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Roundtable for Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) sustainability requirements Burns cleaner because it has less sulfur in the blended fuel Renewable fuels will be recognized within the EU ETS and will likely be recognized in a future Global Market Based Measure systems 16
Renewable Fuel - Savannah First Delivery April, 2016 Four G500 Flight Test Aircraft Flew on Renewable fuel G450 and G550 flew from Savannah to Geneva (EBACE) on this fuel Usage: Use on some limited G500 flights Regular usage by the FAST airplanes Corporate Flights Customer (when additional quantities are available) Gulfstream is the 1 st and only airplane manufacturer to operate on renewable fuels on a regular basis 17
Concluding Remarks 18 Gulfstream has a strong interest in meeting the industry environmental goals established in 2009 and is doing so by leading the way Gulfstream is the first airframe manufacturer to operate their fleet on renewable fuels on a regular basis Sustainability is being integrated into our entire business platform One more final thought.
