ECscan30 Pocket Conductivity/TDS Tester 1 Thank you for selecting the ECscan30 pocket conductivity tester. This manual provides a step-by-step guide to help you operate the meter, please carefully read the following instructions before use. Installing the Batteries Twist the electrode collar counter clockwise, pull the electrode away from the tester. Insert two AAA batteries into the battery compartment, note polarity. Align the slot on electrode, gently push the electrode into the tester. Twist the electrode collar clockwise until it is tight. Display ECscan30 pocket conductivity tester is equipped with an easy-to-read LCD display that used to show the measured values and mode icons. The following table describes the function of each icon. INDEX: ICON MEAS CAL SETUP HOLD ATC DESCRIPTION Indicates the tester is in the measurement mode. Indicates the tester is in the calibration mode. Indicates the tester is in the setting mode. Indicates the measuring value has been locked. Indicates the temperature compensation is enabled. When the battery is depleted, the icon will disappear.
ECscan30 Pocket Conductivity/TDS Tester 2 Keypad The tester has a succinct membrane keypad, names and symbols describe the each function key controls. INDEX: KEY MEAS/HOLD FUNCTION Switches the tester ON/OFF. Locks the measured value, press the key again to resume measuring. Exits the calibration or setting and returns to the measurement mode. CAL ENTER Press the key to start the calibration. Press and hold the key to enter the setup menu. In the calibration mode, press the key to set the calibration value. In the setting mode, press the key to select the default option. Confirms the calibration or selected option. Toggles between conductivity and TDS measurement modes.
ECscan30 Pocket Conductivity/TDS Tester 3 Prior to Use Remove the electrode protective cap from the tester. Soak the electrode for a few minutes in tap water to remove dirt and oil stains on the electrode. Switching the Tester On and Off Press the Meas key to switch on the tester, the display shows measured value. Press and hold the Meas key for 5 seconds, the tester will switch off. If you do not press any key for 8 minutes, the tester will automatically switch off to conserve energy. Power On 5 sec. Power Off
ECscan30 Pocket Conductivity/TDS Tester 4 Setup Menu ECscan30 pocket conductivity tester contains an integrated setup menu that is used to customize the displayed option to meet measurement requirements. MENU DESCRIPTION OPTIONS DEFAULT Set the number of calibration points. 1 point 2 points 3 points Set the TDS conversion factor. Range: 0.1 to 1.0 0.5 Set the default temperature unit. Degrees Celsius Degrees Fahrenheit Calibrate the temperature. --- --- When the option is enabled, the tester will automatically sense a stable reading and lock the measurements. When the option is enabled, the tester will automatically switch off if no key is pressed within 8 minutes. Reset the tester to factory default settings. Enable Disable Enable Disable Enable Disable 1 point C Disable Disable Disable Setting the default option 1. Press and hold the Cal key for 3 seconds to enter the setup menu, the tester shows a menu item and default option. 2. If necessary, press the Cal key again to select the desired option. 3. Press the Enter key to confirm, the tester moves to the next menu item. 4. Repeat the steps above until the tester returns to the measurement mode. Setting is completed. Option During the setting process, press the Meas key, the tester will exit the setup menu and return to the measurement mode. If you do not want to calibrate the temperature, press the Enter key to skip the C/CAL or F/CAL option. The Reset function will restore the tester back to factory default settings. If enabled, all of the calibration data and selected parameters will be lost or reset, the tester must be recalibrated.
ECscan30 Pocket Conductivity/TDS Tester 5 Conductivity Calibration ECscan30 pocket conductivity tester allows 1 to 3 points calibration. To ensure higher accuracy, we recommend that you perform 3 points calibration or select a standard value close to the sample value you are measuring. The tester will automatically detect these conductivity standard solutions and prompt the user to calibrate the tester. When the calibration is completed, all new calibration values will automatically override existing data. The following table shows acceptable conductivity range of calibration solution for each measuring range. MEASURING RANGE CALIBRATION SOLUTION RANGE DEFAULT 0~20µ S/cm 7~17µ S/cm 10µ S/cm 20~200µ S/cm 70~170µ S/cm 84µ S/cm 200~2000µ S/cm 700~1700µ S/cm 1413µ S/cm 2~20mS/cm 7~17mS/cm 12.88mS/cm Single point calibration 1.1 Rinse the conductivity electrode with distilled water, then rinse with a small amount of standard solution. 1.2 Press the Cal key, the tester enters the calibration mode. 1.3 Place the electrode into the calibration solution, the tester immediately shows current calibration standard (e.g., 1413µ S/cm). 1.4 Press the Enter key, the default calibration value begins flashing. 1.5 Press the Cal key to set the calibration value, press the Enter key to confirm and move to next digit. When the setting is completed, ensure that displayed value matches your calibration standard. 1.6 Press the Enter key, the tester begins the calibration. 1.7 Wait for the reading to stabilize, the display automatically shows END. Single point calibration is completed.
ECscan30 Pocket Conductivity/TDS Tester 6 2 points calibration 2.1 Make sure that you have selected 2 points calibration in the setup menu. 2.2 Repeat the steps 1.2 to 1.6 above, when the first calibration point is completed, the display will show CAL2. The tester prompts you to continue with second point calibration. 2.3 Rinse and place the electrode into the calibration solution, the display automatically shows current calibration standard (e.g.,12.88ms/cm). 2.4 Press the Enter key, the default calibration value begins flashing. 2.5 Press the Cal key to set the calibration value, press the Enter key to confirm and move to next digit. 2.6 Press the Enter key, the tester begins the calibration. 2.7 Wait for the reading to stabilize, the display automatically shows END. Second point calibration is completed. 3 points calibration 3.1 If you have selected 3 points calibration in the setup menu, when second calibration point is completed, the display will show CAL3. The tester prompts you to continue with third point calibration. 3.2 Repeat the above steps until the display shows END, the tester returns to the measurement mode. Calibration is completed. Performing the conductivity calibration will simultaneously calibrate the corresponding TDS values. If you want to exit the calibration, press the Meas key, the tester will immediately return to the measurement mode.
ECscan30 Pocket Conductivity/TDS Tester 7 Temperature Calibration During the measurement process, if the temperature reading displayed differs from that of an accurate thermometer, the tester needs to be calibrated. 1. Press and hold the Cal key for 3 seconds to enter the setup menu. 2. Press the Enter key until the tester shows C/CAL or F/CAL. 3. Press the Cal key to enter the temperature calibration mode. 4. Press the Cal key again to modify the temperature value. 5. Press the Enter key to confirm, the tester shows the next menu item. 6. Press the Meas key to return to the measurement mode. Calibration is completed.
ECscan30 Pocket Conductivity/TDS Tester 8 Switching the Measurement Mode 1. In the conductivity mode, press the Enter key until the display shows TDS. The tester is now enters the TDS measurement mode. 2. Press the Enter key again, the tester returns to the conductivity measurement mode. Measurement Rinse the conductivity electrode thoroughly with distilled water. Place the electrode into the sample solution, stir the tester gently. Record the measured value when the reading is stable. Auto-Hold ECscan30 pocket conductivity tester contains an Auto-Hold function. If enabled, the tester will automatically sense a stable reading and lock the measurements. The icon appears on the display. If disabled, press the Hold key, the tester will immediately lock the displayed value. Press the Meas key to resume measuring. Electrode Care and Maintenance DO NOT touch the measurement area of electrode and always make sure that is clean. If there is a build-up of solids inside the measurement area, these should be removed very carefully with a cotton bud soaked in solvent, taking care not to touch the metal parts of the inner cell. After the solids are removed, the electrode must be recalibrated.
ECscan30 Pocket Conductivity/TDS Tester 9 Electrode Replacement When the tester fails to calibrate or gives fluctuating readings for calibration standards, you need to replace the electrode. 1. Twist the electrode collar counter clockwise, pull the old electrode away from the tester. 2. Align the slot on the new electrode, gently push the electrode into the tester. 3. Twist the electrode collar clockwise until it is tight. Installation is completed. CALIBRATION SOLUTIONS REAGENT 84µ S/cm Accurately weigh out 42.35mg of KCL and dissolve in 1 litre deionised water. 1413µ S/cm Accurately weigh out 745.9mg of KCL and dissolve in 1 litre deionised water. 12.88mS/cm Accurately weigh out 7.45g of KCL and dissolve in 1 litre deionised water. Stir the solution until the reagent has thoroughly mixed. Preparation is completed.
ECscan30 Pocket Conductivity/TDS Tester 11 Addendum 2: How to calculate the TDS conversion factor To determine the TDS conversion factor use the formula below: Factor = Actual TDS Actual Conductivity @ 25 C Where: Actual TDS: value from the high purity water and precisely weighed NaCl or KCL reagent. Actual Conductivity: the meter measured conductivity value. For example: dissolve 64g of potassium chloride reagent in 1 litre distilled water. If its conductivity value is 100mS/cm, then TDS conversion factor is 0.64.
