If the tw (2) separate means f applying the brakes are cnnected in any way, they shall be s cnstructed that failure f any ne (1) part f the perating mechanism shall nt leave the mtr vehicle withut brakes n at least tw (2) wheels. (2) Every mtrcycle and every mtr-driven cycle, when perated upn a highway, shall be equipped with at least ne (1) brake, which may be perated by hand r ft. (3) Every trailer r semitrailer f an unladen weight f ne thusand five hundred (1,500) punds r mre when perated upn a highway shall be equipped with brakes adequate t cntrl the mvement f and t stp and hld the vehicle and be designed t be applied by the driver f the twing mtr vehicle frm its cab. The brakes shall be designed and s cnnected that in case f an accidental breakaway f the twed vehicle, the brakes shall be autmatically applied. (4) Every new mtr vehicle, trailer, r semitrailer sld in this state and perated upn the highways shall be equipped with service brakesupn all wheels f the vehicle, except that any mtrcycle r mtr-driven cycle, trucks and truck tractrs having three (3) r mre axles need nt have brakes n the frnt wheels. Vehicles equipped with at least tw (2) steerable axles need nt be equipped with brakes n the wheels f ne (1) axle, and any trailer r semitrailer f less than ne thusand five hundred (1,500) punds unladen weight need nt be equipped with brakes. Every farm trailer while being used hauling agricultural prducts frm farm t strage, marketing r prcessing plant, r returning therefrm, and used within a radius f fifty (50) miles, shall be exempt frm these braking requirements. (6) Brake shes perating within r upn the drums n the vehicle wheels f any mtr vehicle may be used fr bth service and hand peratin. (7) Every mtr vehicle r cmbinatin f vehicles, at all times and under all cnditins f lading, shall, upn applicatin f the service (ft)brake, be capable f decelerating and develping a braking frce equivalent t minimum required deceleratin, and stpping within the requirements set frth in this subsectin: Equivalent braking frce in percentage f vehicle r Stpping distance Deceleratin in cmbinatin in feet feet per secnd weight Passenger vehicles, 25 17 53.0% nt including buses Single-unit vehicles 30 14 43.5% with a manufacturer's grss vehicle weight rating f less than 10,000 punds Single-unit, 2-axle 40 14 43.5% vehicles with a manufacturer's grss vehicle weight rating f 10,000 r mre punds All ther vehicles and 50 14 43.5% cmbinatins with a manufacturer's grss vehicle weight rating f 10,000 r mre punds Cmpliance with these standards shall be determined either by actual rad tests cnducted n a substantially level, nt t exceed a plus r minus ne per cent (1%) grade, dry, smth, hardsurfaced rad that is free frm lse material, with stpping distances measured frm the actual instant braking cntrls are mved and frm an initial speed f twenty (20) miles per hur; r else by suitable mechanical tests in a testing lane which recreates the same cnditins; r by a cmbinatin f bth methds. (8) All brakes shall be maintained in gd wrking rder and shall be adjusted t perate as equally as practicable with respect t the wheels n ppsite sides f the vehicle.

49-906. Tail lamps (1) Every mtr vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, and ple trailer, and any ther vehicle which is being drawn at the end f a train f vehicles, shall be equipped with at least ne (1) tail lamp munted n the rear, which when lighted as required, shall emit a red light plainly visible frm a distance f five hundred (500) feet t the rear. In the case f a train f vehicles nly the tail lamp n the rearmst vehicle need actually be seen frm the distance specified. Every mentined vehicle, ther than a truck tractr, registered in this state and manufactured r assembled after December 31, 1955, shall be equipped with at least tw (2) tail lamps munted n the rear, which when lighted as required, shall cmply with the prvisins f this sectin. (2) Every tail lamp upn every vehicle shall be lcated at a height f nt mre than seventy-tw (72) inches nr less than twenty (20) inches. (3) Any tail lamp shall be wired s t be lighted whenever the head lamps r auxiliary driving lamps are lighted. (4) Nthing herein shall prhibit the display n any vehicle thirty (30) years r lder f tail lamps cntaining a blue r purple insert lens nt t exceed ne (1) inch in diameter, prvided the tail lamp r lamps therwise cmply with the requirements f this sectin. 49-921. Rear munted acceleratin and deceleratin lighting system (1) Every mtr vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, truck tractr, and ple trailer used in the state may be equipped with an auxiliary lighting system cnsisting f: (a) One (1) green light t be activated when the acceleratr f the mtr vehicle is depressed; (b) Nt mre than tw (2) amber lights t be activated when the mtr vehicle is mving frward, r standing and idling, but is nt under the pwer f the engine. (2) An auxiliary system shall nt interfere with the peratin f vehicle tail lamps and shall nt interfere with the peratin f vehicle signal lamps and signal devices. The system may perate in cnjunctin with tail lamps r signal lamps and signal devices. (3) Only ne (1) clr f the system may be illuminated at any ne (1) time, and at all times either the green light, r amber light r lightsshall be illuminated when the tail lamps f the vehicle are nt illuminated. (4) The green light and the amber light r lights, when illuminated, shall be plainly visible at a distance f five hundred (500) feet t the rear.

(5) Only ne (1) system may be munted n a mtr vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, truck tractr, r ple trailer; and the system shall be rear munted in a hrizntal fashin, at a height f nt mre than seventy-tw (72) inches, nr less than twenty (20) inches. (6) On a cmbinatin f vehicles, nly the lights f the rearmst vehicle need actually be seen and distinguished as prvided in subsectin (4) f this sectin. (7) Each manufacturer's mdel f such a system described in this sectin shall be apprved by the bard befre it may be sld r ffered fr sale in the state. 49-940. Mirrrs (1) Every mtr vehicle shall be equipped with a mirrr s lcated as t reflect t the peratr a view f the highway fr a distance f at least tw hundred (200) feet t the rear f the vehicle. (2) When a mtr vehicle is s laded r cnstructed, r is twing a vehicle r trailer which is s laded r cnstructed, as t bstruct the driver's view straight t the rear, then the mtr vehicle shall be equipped with a mirrr n the left side and a mirrr n the right side s lcated as t reflect t the peratr a view f the highway fr a distance f at least tw hundred (200) feet t the rear f the vehicle. (3) When an peratr f a mtr vehicle is transprting under special permit authrity an versize lad which makes mirrrs impractical devices fr reflecting t the peratr a view f the highway t the rear, a fllwing escrt vehicle equipped with prper mirrrs meeting the requirements herein may be substituted fr the required mirrrs n the hauling mtr vehicle.
