Setup Instructions Electrical Wiring: Always switch off power before doing any wiring. Make sure that all the wiring is completed and that the motor is connected to the control card. Limit Switches If you are using limit switches make sure they are connected properly. The control card can operate with either the limit switches connected directly to the cards terminal blocks or in series with the motor. Check diagrams below: The diagram below shows the inputs available and factory default setting for each input. Controller with limits connected Disengage the motor from the gears and move the gate/door to the 1/2 way position. If you can not disengage the motor from the gears you can use button B or C on the control card to operate the motor. If you are using mechanical stops move to the Setup Intelligent Learning Steps. Skip Limit Switch section. Controller with limits in series with motor By default the limit switch inputs on the control card are normally closed (NC). This can be changed to normally open (NO) during the setup steps. 12 Gate & Door Controller with LCD and Intelligent Technology 13

Setup Intelligent Learning Steps: 1. The learning mode setup can always be interrupted with the stop button or remote control activation. 2. Switch off power to the control card or remove the fuse on the control card. 3. Set the 3-way slide switch to Prog1 and make sure all 8-way dip switches are OFF. 4. Switch on the power to the control card or insert the fuse. The control card enters into the learning mode. 5. Look at the LCD and follow the instructions displayed. The following is what is displayed on the LCD: Are Limit Switches used? Yes No Quick Menu Basic Settings Auto Close Auto close is a feature that automatically closes the gate/door after a preset time has counted down to zero. The control card has a normal auto close and several special auto close features each one having its own countdown timers. Auto Close with PE Trigger A photo electric beam needs to be triggered before this auto close starts counting down to close the gate/door. If there is no photo electric beam trigger the gate/door will not close. Auto Close after an Open Obstruction If the gate/door opens and hits an obstruction normally the gate/door will stop and remain in this position. If this feature is enabled an obstruction will start the timer count down and at zero will close the gate/door. Auto Close after Power Failure If the gate/door is open in any position and then there is a power failure, when power is reconnected the gate/door will close with this timer. Normal Auto Close on Sequential Obstructions If the normal auto close is set and the gate/door closes onto an object the gate/door will stop and reopen. This setting sets the amount of times the gate/door will try to auto close. After trying for the set limit the gate/door will remain open. For extra safety a photoelectric beam should be connected to the control card when any of the auto closes options are used. If the stop Auto Close is disabled for that cycle only. Holding the push button, open only and photo electric beam will not allow the auto close timers to count down. Pedestrian Access There are several types of Pedestrian access modes. Pedestrian access opens the gate/door for a short time to allow someone to walk through the gate/door but does not allow a vehicle access. To access these pedestrian access features make sure the 3-way slide switch is on program 1 and dip switch 2 is ON, follow the table below. Compliance Information Troubleshooting During learning mode if the gate or door does not fully open or close in either slow or normal speed you should re-do the intelligent learning with a HIGHER obstruction margin setting. The factory default is 1 Amp. See Advanced Menus. During learning mode if the gate or door does not trip on the overload when it hits the end stoppers you should re-do the intelligent learning with a LOWER obstruction margin setting. The factory default is 1 Amp. See Advanced Menus. If you find that the gate/door has no slow speed on closing or hits the close stopper in fast speed you will need to increase the slow speed travel distance during learning. This is done by doing the learning again and with dip switches 1, 5, 7 and 8 ON during the learning setup. This is normally required if you use a mechanical drive pin lock on closing. If you find that the motor trips on overload during normal operation you can increase the obstruction detect margin. Using a 24VAC transformer will output 33VDC on the 1 Amp output because it is unregulated. This high voltage may damage 12 volt accessories like PE beams, loop detectors or receivers connected to this output. Elsema recommends using the Reg12 board to output a regulated 12VDC voltage. If the standard 10 Amp fuse blows due to a large motor and transformer the installer should replace it with a 15 Amp fuse. Do not use a fuse larger than 15 Amps. During the intelligent learning if the gate or door is traveling too fast you should reduce the default speed settings. This is done by: Disconnecting power to the control card Set the 3-way slide switch to Program 2 Set dip switch 1 and 2 ON. Then connect power. Press and hold button A for open speed while adjusting the Master Pot Press and hold button B for close speed while adjusting the Master Pot Switch off dip switch 1 and 2 Set 3-way slide switch back to program 1 to do learning again If all fails do a factory reset to the control card and try to install again. See Advanced Menu, Dip switch 8 ON and button E. 34 Gate & Door Controller with LCD and Intelligent Technology 35
