One of the best ways to make a pilot feel like they are flying a real airplane is to put them in a real airplane. That s why when we set out to revolutionize the flight simulation industry, we decided to make our prototype out of a real airplane fuselage, salvaged, restored and modified for use as a simulator cockpit. We started searching aircraft graveyards across the state of Texas to find a suitable candidate when we stumbled across N45480 decaying in a field south of Dallas. It was a Cessna 177 Cardinal RG and it was perfect for our first prototype. Not long after we bought this Cardinal, we realized that the idea of using an old fuselage was not as ingenious as we had once thought. So we revised our plans, and N45480 was sent back to quietly repose in the Texas sun. Although our original plans for her didn t work out, we ve never forgotten the plane that was once to become the first FMX. How could we? After-all we named the company after her.
2 3 FMX When it comes to flight simulation, there s little doubt that motion makes the simulation fly, but the steep cost of most motion simulators made owning one impossible for most flight training organizations. Not anymore! Enter the FMX, the flagship model of the Redbird family. The Redbird FMX is a superior-quality, full motion, feature-rich Advanced Aviation Training Device priced with real-world flight training organizations in mind. With standard features that are anything but standard such as wrap-around visuals, a fully enclosed cockpit, reconfigurable cockpit, scenariobased training compatibility and of course an electric motion platform, the FMX serves up a level of realism that is simply unavailable in other training devices on the market. Electric Motion Platform Fully enclosed cockpit +200 wrap-around visuals User defined missions database Unique pilot key system Compatible with scenario based training Portable instructors panel software Quick-change cockpit configurations Single and multi-engine Traditional and glass cockpit Complete terrain and airport database Operates on a standard 15 amp outlet FAA Certified AATD Available Cockpit Configurations: The purchase of an FMX includes any one cockpit configuration from our library of available configurations. Additional configurations may be purchased. For a complete list of available configurations, see page 16. Room Requirements: The FMX requires a room that is at least 16 x 16 with a ceiling that is at least 8 tall and a standard 110 volt, 15 amp wall outlet. It is strongly recommended that the simulator have access to a highspeed Internet connection to allow remote diagnostics, support and software updates. 128`` 87`` Dimensions Additional Aircraft Expansion Packs (each) Redbird Insight Parrot Instructor s Tablet PC Additional Pilot keys (each) Custom Paint and Decals 130``
4 5 SD The Redbird SD is a fully enclosed, stationary Advanced Aviation Training Device. It serves as an excellent alternative to our FMX model for training environments where space is at a premium. The SD includes all of the same standard features as the FMX, with the exception of the motion platform. Utilizing a fully enclosed cockpit, wrap-around visuals and realistic flight controls, the SD totally immerses the pilot in the sights and sounds of flight. The SD is a top choice for flight schools looking for a realistic, full-featured, affordable AATD. Fully enclosed cockpit +200 wrap-around visuals User defined missions database Unique pilot key system Compatible with scenario based training Portable instructors panel software Quick-change cockpit configurations Single and multi-engine Traditional and glass cockpit Complete terrain and airport database Operates on a standard 15 amp outlet FAA Certified AATD Upgradable to FMX Available Cockpit Configurations: The purchase of an SD includes any one cockpit configuration from our library of available configurations. 6 7 LD The Redbird LD is the perfect solution for flight schools and individual pilots who wish to have the power of a Redbird in their home or office. Like the FMX and SD, the LD is FAA certified as an Advanced Aviation Training Device and is delivered with all of the standard features of a Redbird SD like wrap-around visuals, realistic flight controls, and interchangeable cockpits, but without the cockpit enclosure and pilot seats. It is an ideal choice for flight schools and home users that don t have the available space for an SD or FMX. Besides being a great choice for flight schools, it s a fantastic addition for the individual pilot dedicated to maintaining instrument currency and keeping skills sharp when they can t be flying the real thing. +200 wrap-around visuals User defined missions database Unique pilot key system Compatible with scenario based training Portable instructors panel software Quick-change cockpit configurations Single and multi-engine Traditional and glass cockpit Complete terrain and airport database Operates on a standard 15 amp outlet FAA Certified AATD Upgradable to SD or FMX Available Cockpit Configurations: The purchase of an LD includes any one cockpit configuration from our library of available configurations. 10 11 TD & TD2 The Redbird TD and TD2 are tablemounted flight training devices that are designed with the ergonomics of flight in mind at a price that everyone can afford. Plus, they re fully packaged and easy to set up and operate, making it the most realistic and effective trainer on the market. Traditional desktop flight training devices sit on top of a table or desk, causing the pilot to reach up for the yoke and to look unrealistically high for the gauges. The TD and TD2 s unique mounting system allows it to be hung under the table, placing the yoke, switches, gauges and Equipped with computer, monitor, instrument panel, keyboard and speakers. Complete terrain and airport database. Ergonomically correct design which easily slides onto a sturdy, solid table. 90 day warranty with optional 1 or 2 year extended warranty. Failure Hotkeys. FAA Approved BATD with optional rudder pedals. Available Cockpit Configurations: The TD and TD2 represent a generic single engine piston aircraft and is available in either glass or steam gauge configuration. With the TD2, you can fly with or without retractable gear, constant speed prop and or a high performance engine. 30`` Dimensions visuals in the correct and most realistic position for the pilot. The Redbird TD and TD2 are perfect for flight schools looking to enhance training with simulation, and for individual pilots looking to hone their skills and stay current from the comfort of their home or office. Traditional Desktop Redbird TD Table Requirements: You will need a sturdy (the heavier the better), solid table with a maximum tabletop thickness of 2.25 including the rails and the underlying structure. 12 13 Xwind Since the early days of powered flight, pilots have struggled with landing in crosswinds and learning proper crosswind landing techniques. Even today, most crosswind landing skills are learned through trial and error... sometimes with disastrous results. Believe it or not, the most common contributing factor in weather related accidents each year is crosswinds. The second most common factor is wind gusts. In fact crosswinds and wind gusts cause more landing accidents than fog, thunderstorms, and icing combined! Electric Motion Platform. Winds up to 30 knots. Gusts up to 15 knots. Wind shear and turbulence. Laser markers for yaw and drift. Landing mode. Insurance discounts. Onboard Hobbs meter. Operates on a standard 15 amp outlet. XWIND Room Requirements: The Xwind requires a standard 110 volt, 15 amp wall outlet and a space that is at least 12 feet long and 16 feet wide. It is also strongly recommended that there be 30 feet of shared space in front the Xwind for visual field. That s where the Redbird Xwind comes in. It teaches pilots the proper techniques to meet and beat these top two causes of weather related landing accidents. By placing pilots in gusty, crosswind conditions for extended periods of time, the Xwind gives instructors all the time they need to teach the pilot the proper techniques for landing in challenging crosswind conditions.
