Thompson Performance, LLC - POWERBLAST PLATE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS and LIMITED WARRANTY FOR PBP H-1, HD-1 AND HD-2 IMPORTANT NOTE: Proper installation is the responsibility of the purchaser. Improper installation may result in poor performance and engine or vehicle damage. PLEASE read these instructions carefully before beginning any of the installation. The POWERBLAST PLATE is a high performance part and is designed for carbureted engines. California smog laws allow installation of this device on any 1974 or older automobile. At this time, the POWERBLAST PLATE can only be legally installed for off highway use on 1975 and newer vehicles. WARNING: WHEN WORKING WITH AND AROUND GASOLINE, ALWAYS WORK IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA AND KEEP ALL OPEN FLAMES, SPARKS AND OTHER SOURCES OF IGNITION AWAY FROM THE WORK AREA. FAILURE TO DO SO COULD RESULT IN A FIRE OR AN EXPLOSION. HAVE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER ON HAND DURING THE ENTIRE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION PROCESS. TOOLS NEEDED - Needle Nose Pliers - Long Philips Head screwdriver - Long Flat Head screwdriver - Tools necessary for proper removal and re-installation of the carburetor, including fire extinguisher. - Safety Glasses - Work Gloves - Absorbent Pad for gas spillage NOTE: The POWERBLAST PLATE is not compatible with nozzles that have extension tubes and anti-pullover nozzles. Must use standard Straight nozzles. BEFORE REMOVING THE CARBURETOR - Make sure the engine temperature is cool and the fuel pressure is low to prevent fire or explosion. CARBURETOR REMOVAL - Remove the carburetor per your automobile/carburetor manufacturer s procedures. - If portions of the fuel line remain attached to the carburetor, place a plug at the end to prevent leaks. - Keep the carburetor level to prevent fuel from spilling out of the carburetor. Move the carburetor from the engine to a work surface that is away from sparks or other sources of ignition, in a well-ventilated area. Have a fire extinguisher at hand just in case. - Place fuel absorbent material under the carburetor to absorb any fuel drips, spillage and accelerator squirts. - Inspect the carburetor base gasket for any sign of leakage or cracking. Replace the gasket if necessary. Do not use any gasket glue, cement, Silicone or RTV sealant, just the plain gasket material. - Cover open holes in the intake manifold to prevent any foreign objects from entering the engine.

POWERBLAST PLATE INSTALLATION 1. Make sure the choke is in the open position, then locate the accelerator nozzle. It will be toward the front center. 2. Fully loosen the large Philips head retaining screw. 3. Using needle nose pliers, carefully and slowly break the seal between the accelerator nozzle and carburetor main body.

4. With the needle nose pliers, and in one action, remove the large Philips head retaining screw and the accelerator pump nozzle together, by gripping them with the pliers, move them to one side and then lift them straight up and out. PLEASE NOTE: There is usually a gasket between the accelerator pump nozzle and the main body. Sometimes the gasket is stuck to the underside of the nozzle when you remove it. DO NOT LET THIS GASKET FALL AWAY. Pull the gasket out with the needle nose pliers if required and discard or save elsewhere. If the gasket does fall away, you must retrieve it so that it does not go into the engine. The POWERBLAST PLATE will now take the place of the bottom gasket. 5. Be sure NOT to hit the accelerator while the nozzle is off, as the check needle is now exposed and would pop out, and could fall into the engine.

6. With the needle nose pliers, slide the POWERBLAST PLATE under the choke plate and over the nozzle mounting pedestal. If you have large annular boosters, slide the plate down the small side of the choke opening and then under the choke and onto the nozzle pedestal. 7. With needle nose pliers, and with the screw and nozzle assembled together, reinstall the accelerator nozzle and retaining screw, WITHOUT THE BOTTOM GASKET. Place them on top of the POWERBLAST PLATE sitting on the nozzle mounting pedestal.

8. While holding the POWERBLAST PLATE centered and firmly in place, only slightly tighten the Philips head screw and check the alignment of the Accelerator nozzle and the POWERBLAST PLATE. The nozzle and PLATE should be aligned so the nozzle discharge holes line up with the exit holes in the plate, and the POWERBLAST PLATE should be positioned for equal spray into each venturi. The PLATE has adjustment twisting right and left, as well as a little front to back below the nozzle. Some nozzles will require the PLATE to be pulled gently towards the front of the nozzle for best alignment. 9. Place something absorbent under the carburetor and then move the accelerator linkage enough to check the spray from the POWERBLAST PLATE. Fuel exiting the nozzle should shoot through the exit holes of the plate and hit the backside of each blade. The POWERBLAST PLATE should be aligned in the venturis to spray equally on each side.

10. Once you have the POWERBLAST PLATE and accelerator nozzle in alignment, hold the POWERBLAST PLATE with a flat blade screw driver placed next to the nozzle at its base, then tighten the Philips head screw very firmly. The twisting action of tightening the screw may twist the nozzle and plate slightly clockwise. Holding the POWERBLAST PLATE with a flat blade screw driver will help prevent the nozzle from turning while tightening. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE CURVED AREAS OF THE POWERBLAST PLATE OR APPLY FORCE THAT MIGHT BEND THE PLATE. Use just enough pressure with the flat head, on the small flat area of the plate next to the nozzle, to keep it from rotating while tightening. 11. If the POWERBLAST PLATE and accelerator nozzle become misaligned with tightening, loosen the Philips Head screw, realign the POWERBLAST PLATE and nozzle and retighten the Philips Head screw very firmly (as noted above).

12. Installation is similar for the rear accelerator discharge nozzle on mechanical secondary 4 BBL carburetors. The second POWERBLAST PLATE should be positioned opposite the first POWERBLAST PLATE, under the secondary nozzle. Follow previous steps for aligning and tightening the nozzle and POWERBLAST PLATE. CARBURETOR RE-INSTALLATION - Remove cover from intake manifold opening and place away from engine. - Make sure the mating surfaces of intake manifold and carburetor are both clean. - Place the carburetor on the intake manifold, remembering to keep the carburetor level to prevent fuel spillage. If using a previously used gasket, gently wiggle the carburetor on top of mounting surface to find the previous resting place of the carburetor. The carburetor will have left an impression in the gasket when it was previously tightened. - Continue installation of the carburetor as specified by the manufacturer. - Confirm all linkages are working properly and fuel lines are hooked up and tightened properly. - With the engine running, reconfirm spray of nozzle and POWERBLAST PLATE and make any minor adjustments needed to get maximum atomization of accelerator discharge nozzle spray, in each venturi. Remember that some nozzles will require the PLATE to be gently pulled towards the front of the nozzle ( center of carburetor) for best alighment.
