Document No. 155-302N VE 598 Electronic Flowrite Valve Field Assembly Product Description The VE 598 Electronic Valve Assemblies consist of an electronic actuator, linkage kit, and a valve body assembly. The VE 598 linkage transforms the rotary movement of the actuator output shaft to the linear movement necessary to position the valve stem. Product Numbers 598-100 through 598-112 Warning/Caution Notations WARNING CAUTION Required Tools Personal injury/loss of life may occur if you do not perform a procedure as specified. Equipment damage, or loss of data may occur if you do not follow a procedure as specified. 7/16-inch socket and 3/8-inch drive ratchet 7/16-inch open-end box wrench 2-inch adjustable wrench and 1-1/2 inch openend box wrench, or 1-3/4 inch open-end box wrench. 5/32-inch hex key Medium flat-blade screwdriver Magnetic No. 2 Phillips screwdriver Hammer Prerequisites WARNING: Isolate the valve so that the medium (water, steam, etc.) will not leak out of the valve body when it is disassembled. WARNING: Remove and cap the air line to the actuator before removing the actuator from the valve. Figure 1. VE 598 Electronic Valve Assembly. Table 1. Check List. Locate the product number in the left-hand column of Table 4, read across the row to find the following information, and record it on the checklist below. You will refer to the checklist frequently during assembly. Installation Field Assembly Linkage Kit Selection Linkage Kits are listed in the Cross Reference (Table 4) by VE 598 product number. You may also use the "Type" column to aid you in locating the specific valve. For example, Two-way, single seat, composition disc, ANSI 125, brass trim. Choose the desired action, Non-Spring Return (NSR), Spring Return Open (SRO), or Spring Return Closed (SRC). You will then be able to identify which linkage kit you need. Kit Contents The linkage kit contains all the parts necessary to assemble 59x valve bodies and EA 338 actuators. Each kit contains a specific cam depending on the valve stroke. Otherwise, the contents of the kits are identical. The assembly parts are illustrated in Figure 4. An asterisk in Table 2 identifies which parts are included in the linkage kit. Table 2 also indicates the quantity of each part in the kit. With each linkage kit there will be parts left over. Field Assembly of VP 591/593 Valve Bodies, EA 338 Actuators and VE 598 Linkages Before beginning the assembly, use the checklist (Table 1) to record the information you will need from the Cross Reference (Table 4). To identify the product number, see Linkage Kit Selection in Field Assembly. WARNING: Before doing any assembly, shut off the medium to the valve. Remove and cap the air line or remove the conduit wiring and label and tape wire ends to prevent personal injury or equipment damage. For Fluid Temperature lower than 266 F (130 C). For any Fluid Temperature. Must be used when higher than 266 F (130 C). Figure 3. Mounting Positions. NOT ACCEPTABLE Page 2 of 14 Siemens Building Technolgoies, Inc.

Installation, Continued NOTE: The numbers are references to Table 2 and Figure 4. 1. Remove one stem nut (6) from the valve stem and retain. Thread the second stem nut (and washer (6A) for 1/4-inch stem thread) to the base of the stem thread. 2. See the checklist for cam position. lf you are using cam position 1 or 2, push the valve stem all the way down. If you are using cam position 3, 4, or 5, pull the stem all the way up. With a pencil, mark the base of the valve stem. 3. See the checklist to determine if a stem adapter is needed. If so, select the stem adapter (4) that fits correctly onto the stem. Thread the stem adapter onto the valve stem until it stops. 4. From the checklist, determine the linkage mounting position, and then turn to Figure 6 through 10 to determine the parts needed for the specific linkage mounting. 5. Select the bonnet bracket (3) that fits tightly over the bonnet neck and secure it finger tight with the matching bonnet nut (5). 6. Rotate the bonnet bracket to the desired orientation (Figure 1) and wrench-tighten the bonnet nut. 7. For linkage mounting position A, B, or C, fasten the linkage risers (2) to the bonnet bracket (3) using four 1/4"-20 x 1/2" linkage bolts (7) and four 1/4"-20 locknut s (8). See Figure 6. through 7. 8. Remove the linkage cover (13) by gently prying the edges with a medium flat-blade screwdriver. Slide the travel cage (16) out of the linkage body (1). 9. Fasten the linkage body (1) to the bonnet bracket or linkage risers using four 1/4"-20 x 1/2" linkage bolts (7) and four 1/4"-20 locknut s (8). See the mounting position illustrations, Figures 5 through 10, for proper mounting hole alignment. 10. Slide the travel cage (16) down into the linkage body so that the valve stem can be captured in the cage opening. Be careful not to damage the valve stem threads. 11. Remove the actuator from the shipping package and loosen the actuator cover bolts with a No. 2 Phillips screwdriver. 12. See the checklist (Table 1) and then Figure 11 for the proper cam orientation. Place the cam spacer (17) over the POWER END of the actuator output shaft. Attach the stroke cam (11) to the POWER END of the actuator output shaft by tightening the two setscrews using a 5/32-inch hex key. NOTE: 1. Remember that the actuator main shaft must remain horizontal. See Figure 2. 2. It is difficult to change the position of the linkage after this point. NOTE: Rotating the cam 180 may change the action of the valve assembly. 13. See the checklist (Table 1) and Figure 13 for the force selection pin (14) setting. The factory setting is 160 lbs. 14. To change the force selection pin setting, remove the force selection pins. Slide the pin arm from the locking tab, insert the force selection pin into the required hole, and lock the force selection pin arm into the locking tab. Apply gentle pressure on the force lever roller (15) to release or insert the pins. 15. Tilt the POWER END of the actuator so that the cam assembly slips into the linkage opening. Figure 11, Arrow 1. Slip the cam into place between the force lever rollers. Figure 5. Markings on Linkage Mounting Components. NOTE: The travel cage can slide up to make it easier to insert the actuator. Page 4 of 14 Siemens Building Technologies, Inc.

Installation, Continued 16. Align one 1/4"-20 UNC x 1" linkage bolt (9) through the POWER END bolt hole and linkage body, keeping the cam between the rollers. See Figure 10 Arrow 2. 17. Pivot the actuator into place aligning the second POWER END bolt hole and linkage body. See Figure 10, Arrow 3. lnsert one 1/4"-20 UNC x 1" linkage bolt and finger tighten one locknut (8). 18. Use two 1/4"-20 UNC x 1" linkage bolts (9) and locknut s (8) to fasten the back end of the actuator to the linkage body. Wrench-tighten these bolts first; then wrench tighten the POWER END mounting bolts. 19. If a stem adapter is used, thread a stem jam nut (6) onto the adapter capturing the travel cage between the stem jam nut and the shoulder of the stem adapter. Do not tighten. Proceed to Step 21. 20. Thread the second stem jam nut (6) (and washer (6A) for 1/4-inch stem thread) onto the valve stem, capturing the travel cage between the two jam nuts. Do not tighten. Position A Position B Figure 6.
