COB VETTE NEWS Since 1981 Volume, 35 Issue 10 Notes from the President Looking over the calendar from the last couple of weeks, I noted that we're basically down to a minimal number of events before we put our cars away for the year. But we can't complain, we had a very dry spring and summer and early fall which allowed us to go to many more events than usual. A couple of remaining events are Peek n' Peek in Clymer, NY (the day after our October meeting) and/ or a fall foliage cruise and dinner. As a reminder, at the October meeting member Mike Flanagan s son-in-law will be offering free flu shots for any members interested. Two other reminders: One, if you have not paid your dues for 2017 see Marianne at the meeting or mail her a check made out to Corvettes of Buffalo. Dues for couples is $65, individual $50, and add $10 if your spouse also wishes to be a member of NCCC. Second we will open up nominations at the meeting for officer positions in the club. All members are eligible to run for office or become a board member if they have paid their dues and made a total of 6 meeting/major events in our calendar year as defined in the bylaws. At the meeting we will have an open discussion on storing your Corvette for the winter, which may be helpful to some members. Finally there will be sign-up sheet at the meeting for our Christmas brunch to be held on Sunday, December 4, and chaired by Karen & Lowell Rothenberger. Also as a reminder to help local children during the holiday season, please bring an unwrapped toy(s) to the brunch that will be picked up by local US Marines for "Toys for Tots". Hope to see you at the meeting. Frank October 2016 What s Happening This Month See page three. OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF www.corvettesofbuffalo.com Corvettes of Buffalo Page 1

Prospective Member Article CORVETTE, CORVETTE, CORVETTE What the heck is it about this car that makes us weak in the knees when we see one? Any year, any color, any place. Why do we have to turn our heads and get a second look, as if it were a topless girl waiting for a bus? It might be because we had one just like it when we were younger, or just want to look to see if the driver has taken care of it and loved it. We just can t help ourselves, we have to look. I have suffered from corvette whiplash (AKA Vette-Lash) since I can remember. I m guessing everyone in this club suffers with some degree of Vette-Lash. With absolutely no medical evidence to prove it, I have found one way to ease some of the pain of Vette-Lash. The cure is to get your own Corvette, or two or three. There is another disease we in this club appear to suffer from. We are Corvetteaholics. We probably should introduce ourselves at the meetings as my name is Jim and I m a Corvetteaholic. We all seem to suffer from the same appreciation of a fiberglass piece of rolling art. Owning a Corvette tells to the world that we appreciate the time and talent that went into creating the car and the love of life that it represents. So my name is Jim and my girl s name is Kim, and we own 2 corvettes. A 1971 Ontario orange roadster, and a 2000 Millennium yellow convertible, pictures included, and yes, we are Corvetteaholics. Next time we will discuss Dr. Sigmund Freud s theory on Corvette Envy & Corvette hoarders. Jim & Kim Corvettes of Buffalo Page 7

AAA Confirmed: It Matters What Fuel you re Putting in Your Vette By Tony Markovich - August 31, 2016 Cars are investments, and the better you take care of them, the better return you ll get. Whether that s selling down the road or simply seeing continued results, what you do with your car today will affect it later on. That includes the gas you use. According to a new study from the American Automobile Association (AAA), gasoline brands that meet the standards of the Top Tier label are far better for your car s engine than those that don t. AAA was surprised to learn the extent to which detergent additives impact gasoline quality, said John Nielsen, AAA s managing director of automotive engineering and repair. As advertised, tested TOP TIER gasolines kept engines remarkably cleaner than other fuels we tested. The study said that there were 19 times more engine deposits than Top Tier brands after just 4,000 miles of simulated driving. So, yes, the detergents that are in Top Tier gas do their jobs, which helps keep your car running smoothly and emissions lower. Some of the most popular Top Tier brands include British Petroleum, Shell, 76, Chevron, Exxon, Mobil, Quik Trip, Texaco, Valero, and yes, Costco. Peep the full list here. COB Members Recipe Page TACO SALAD Spread soften cream cheese on bottom of pan, depending how many people you are serving takes usually one -two 8oz bricks Toss a salad in a separate bowl, whatever you like, I usually do iceberg, cut up into bite size pieces, along with onion, green pepper and tomato. Make sure it's not wet from rinsing, then spread over the top of the cream cheese. Next, spread salsa over the top, I use mild, some people can't eat spicy. One jar should be enough. Lastly, spread your favorite shredded cheese over the top, 8 oz. bag. Serve with taco chips. Scoops works the best. Great for football game gatherings. Debbie Schafer Corvettes of Buffalo Page 13

CALL THE GM TIRE PROGRAM HOTLINE FOR WINTER TIRE ASSISTANCE Many GM high performance models, such as the CTS-V, ATS-V, Camaro ZL1, Corvette and Chevrolet SS, are factory equipped with summer tires that are optimized for maximum dry and wet road performance while still retaining satisfactory tread life, excellent durability and low noise levels. During winter months in areas that receive a significant amount of snow, winter tires that are designed to enhance winter driving are a recommended alternative for summer tires. Winter tires, in general, are optimized for increased traction on snow and ice. In some cases, this may translate into decreased dry road traction, increased road noise and shorter tread life. The following models are equipped with summer tires: 2010-2013 CTS Sedan; 2010-2014 CTS Wagon; 2010-2016 CTS-V, Camaro; 2011-2015 CTS Coupe; 2012-2015 Camaro ZL1; 2012-2016 Regal GS; 2013-2016 ATS; 2014-2015 CTS Sedan (VIN A), Camaro Z28; 2014-2016 CTS-V Sport, Corvette, Corvette Z51, Chevrolet SS; 2016 ATS-V and CT6. All of these models are rear-wheel drive with the exception of the Regal GS, which is front-wheel drive. In all cases, if a switch is made to winter tires, all four tires must be replaced. Do not install winter tires only on the driving wheels. When selecting winter tires, the same size and load value as the Original Equipment tires should be used. A tire in the same size and a higher load value is acceptable. Clearance issues, speedometer error and/or altered vehicle handling characteristics may occur if tires of a different size are used. If winter tires are not available in the same speed rating as the Original Equipment tires, the speed rating of the winter tire chosen must not be exceeded and driving should be adjusted accordingly. GM Tire Program There are several choices in winter tires currently available through the GM Tire Program in sizes that match Original Equipment tires. Winter tires purchased through the GM Tire Program are warranted through the GM Aftersales Tire Warranty Program in the U.S. (In Canada, refer to the tire manufacturer s aftermarket warranty policy). Winter tires are not guaranteed to be in stock. The cost to purchase any winter tires is the customer s responsibility. Tire Hotline If assistance is needed in obtaining an appropriate winter tire, contact the GM Tire Program by calling at 1-877-728-4737 (U.S.). In Canada, contact the District Manager Customer Care and Aftersales. The GM Tire Program Hotline also can be contacted for help with ordering replacement tires for new model year vehicles that have just started production or for limited production vehicles, such as the new Michelin Pilot tires on the CTS-V. GM usually will have a reserve from the tire companies for new limited production vehicles with new tires. These tires also will be available through the GM Tire Program. TIP: In some cases, a run flat winter tire may not be available for a vehicle equipped with run flat tires. In these situations an inflator kit, part number 23494786, should also be ordered to provide extended mobility since the vehicle would not be equipped with a spare tire. The sealant in the inflator kit should not be used on run-flat tires. Corvettes of Buffalo Page 15

C7 Corvette Blocking Parking Lot Towed by Bystander By Detroit Steel - September 8, 2016 There can be repercussions for being too cocky, even if you do drive something as bad ass as a Corvette. The owner of this white model certainly found that out the hard way when someone took it upon themselves to move the car when it was left parked in the middle of a lot while blocking traffic. The show created quite a spectacle, with onlookers practically cheering the pickup driver on as he towed it to another area, even as the car s alarm was going off. See video below. Of course, the entire thing was captured on video, as featured below. Careful though, it includes a few not-so-nice words for the Corvette owner. Now, I m sure there are some here who might feel a bit of empathy for the owner after hearing the car being dragged through the parking lot. But remember, just because you might own one of the greatest sports cars in the world, it doesn t mean you have to be a jerk about it.
