Implements must be attached to tractor for inspection. We had our 9870STS combine inspected as part of the ECE winter equipment inspection program last year. Our combine was running okay when we finished our soybean harvest, but the coolant sample came back that we had water in the oil. Upon teardown, the technician found that we had a crack in the #1 liner. Luckily for us, the combine was still covered under our Powergard warranty that would have expired in May before we went back to the field. The issue could have been much worse if we had waited until wheat harvest, so the downtime we avoided by having the combine fully inspected with the complete fluid sample plus the potential out-of-warranty repair expense was well worth the investment. That one inspection saved us thousands of dollars! East Coast Equipment inspected our 7630 tractor as part of their winter inspection program. During the inspection, complete fluid samples were pulled and sent to a lab for analysis. The oil sample came back with fuel in the oil, so it was determined that they caught a fuel injection pump leak in the early stages, which saved us a lot of money and costly downtime. A $4,000 repair could have easily turned into a $20,000 engine replacement, if the tractor had continued to run leaking fuel into the crankcase. We now have all of our tractors and our combine inspected every year to help us avoid more costly repairs and to keep us running. It is well worth the cost! ECE inspected our 9770STS combine last year during their winter inspection program, and the technician found a burnt rotor bearing cover and burnt grease line as a result of a rotor bearing failure. We chose to let ECE repair all of the suggested items on the repair quote which cost us about $12,000, but that cost was much less than replacing the combine, had the unit caught on fire during corn harvest due to the failed bearing. We saved thousands of dollars, not to mention avoided costly downtime as a result of the findings during the inspection. We are sold on the value of letting East Coast Equipment inspect our equipment every year now.
