CFC's are having high ozone depleting potential. HCFC's are also containing some ozone depleting potential and are scheduled to be banned on 2030. Being responsible in preserving the environment, you have the right choice of choosing ROYAL TEMP's Air Cooled Condensing Unit Series HX employing R-134A as refrigerant because R-134A is an HFC (chlorine-free) refrigerant with a low ozone depleting potential and direct global warming potential. R-134A refrigerant is not affected by the Montreal Protocol on substance that depletes ozone layer. 2

Easy to Access Components More Efficient Air Cooled Condensers Easy to Install and Maintain Preserving the Environment GENERAL Royal Temp HX Series Air Cooled Condensing Units are factory fabricated and assembled comprising of compressors, condenser fans and motors, high efficiency condenser coils, and electrical control box. UNIT CONSTRUCTION These types of RCD Air Cooled Condensing Units are simple, with small footprint, easy to install and maintain due to ease of components accessibility. It features side intake and vertical top discharge. A weatherproof electrical cabinet is provided to protect the electrical components. The unit base provides sturdy foundation and simplified installation. COMPRESSOR Units are provided with hermetic scroll compressors or semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors. The compressor motor is equipped with thermal overload protection. FAN AND MOTOR Fans are propeller type and made up of aluminum blades rigidly fastened to steel hub. The multi-blade fans are individually driven and directly coupled to motor. The fans are statically and dynamically balanced and are protected by epoxy coated fan guard. The motors are equipped with inherent thermal overload protection and permanently lubricated bearings. Motors are air over type. CONTROL Pre-wired controls include operational and safety control devices such as contactors, high and low pressure switches. REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT Each refrigerant circuit's liquid and suction lines are provided with isolation valve thereby allowing the refrigerant charge to be stored in the condensing unit and allowing the interconnecting pipes to be isolated. COIL Condenser coils are constructed with enhanced copper tubes mechanically bonded to aluminum fins having self spacing collar. The coil assembly frame is made up of galvanized steel sheet. Sub-cooling circuits are provided integral to condenser coil to provide refrigerant effect and eliminate flash gas affecting the capacity of the unit. The brazed joints and the possibility of refrigerant loss are reduced due to mechanically U-formed tubes compared to a plate finned coil with brazed return bends. The coil assembly is pressure tested to 400psig while submerged to warm water. 3

RATINGS AND SELECTION Royal Temp RCD Air Cooled Condensing Units may be used with air handling units, direct expansion coils in built up systems, remote mounted water chillers with numerous other evaporator units. Capacity ratings as shown in tables and charts are for R-134a refrigerant. Ratings shown are at saturated suction temperatures at the compressor. In actual practice, suction line pressure drop reduces the compressor capacity and compressor must operate at a lower suction pressure to maintain the desired evaporator temperature. It is usually standard practice to size the suction line for a maximum pressure drop of 3 PSIG which corresponds to 2 F. Therefore, the evaporator will operate at an approximately 2 F above the compressor suction temperature and this should be taken into consideration when selecting evaporator. SELECTION PROCEDURE The following conditions are needed to select Royal Temp RCD Air Cooled Condensing Units. Total cooling load (BTUH) Air temperature entering condenser ( F) Evaporator temperature ( F) SAMPLE SELECTION #1 (Condensing Unit matched with Royal Temp ATX Air Handling Unit) Given: Total cooling load: 410,796 BTUH = 411 MBH Air temp. entering cond.: F Evaporator temp.: 40 F to 50 F Suction line loss: 2 F Find: Air Cooled Condensing Unit Model Suction temperature at compressor and evaporator temperature at which the condensing unit and evaporating unit will balance with suction line loss considered. Solution: Referring to Performance Table it is found that model 35HX has the capacity to meet cooling load requirement. Provided that at arbitrary evaporator refrigerant temperatures of 40 F and 50 F the capacities are 440.524 MBH and 292.436 MBH respectively. Plot the above total capacities on the 35HX condensing unit capacity chart as shown in the figure. Draw a straight line from A to B establishing the evaporator coil capacity line. Take suction line loss into consideration, move horizontally left 2 F from points A and B and establish points C and D. Draw a straight line from point C to point D establishing system capacity line. Capacity, MBH From the system capacity line CD determine the balanced conditions as follows: At the intersection of the system capacity line and the F ambient air draw a line horizontally to the left and read capacity as 411.6 MBH. From same intersection point draw line vertically down to suction temperature line and read the suction temperature at compressor as 40.4 F. From same intersection point draw line horizontally to the right to evaporator capacity line AB and establish an intersection point. Referring to Performance Table, it can be determined that 18HX will produce the required capacity of 222.7 MBH at compressor suction temperature of 45 F (taking into consideration 2 F suction line loss) and F air temperature entering condenser. GUIDE SPECIFICATIONS 10-55HX GENERAL 1. Air cooled condensing unit suitable for outdoor, on-the-ground or rooftop installation. Unit shall consist of welded hermetic type scroll compressors, air cooled condenser coil, condenser fan and motor, and electrical box. Unit shall have two independent refrigerant circuits and condenser air shall discharge upward. 2. Unit shall be used to match with air handling units, direct expansion coils in built up systems, remote mounted water chillers and with numerous other evaporator units. 3. Unit shall be rated in accordance with ARI Standard 365. 4. Unit shall be manufactured under ISO 9001 (2000) facility which ensures quality of the product. 5. Unit shall utilize R-134a refrigerant. 6. Unit shall be built in accordance with NEC, ASHRAE, and all applicable national and local codes. EQUIPMENT 1. Unit shall be factory fabricated and assembled comprising of scroll compressors, condenser fans and motors, high efficiency condenser coils, and electrical control box. 2. Units shall contain factory wiring, piping, safety and operational controls. 3. Casing shall be made from galvanized steel, painted, and fully weather-proof suitable for outdoor installation. 4. Independent refrigerant connections, openings for power connections, and removable access panels for servicing shall be provided. 5. Compressor shall be hermetically sealed scroll complete with thermal overload. 6. Condenser fans shall be direct-driven propeller type arranged for vertical discharge. Fans shall be statically and dynamically balanced and shall be provided with safety guards. 7. Condenser coil shall be air cooled, with integral sub-cooling circuits, and shall be constructed with enhanced copper tubes mechanically bonded to aluminum fins having self spacing collar. The coil assembly frame shall be made up of galvanized steel sheet. 8. Factory wired controls shall be housed on a weatherproof cabinet. 9. Each refrigerant circuit's liquid and suction lines shall be provided with isolation valve to allow the refrigerant charge to be stored in the condensing unit and to allow the interconnecting pipes to be isolated. 42
