GUIDE ROD LASER User Guide for Beretta 9 & 9 Full Size and Taurus PT 9, 99, 00, & 0 IMPORTANT: LASERMAX, INC. DOES NOT WARRANTY THE ALIGNMENT OR FUNCTION OF THE GUIDE ROD LASER FOR PORTED FIREARMS, OR FOR FIREARMS WHICH HAVE BEEN ALTERED FROM FACTORY CONFIGURATION. DANGER Laser radiation is emitted from the front aperture of the laser when the switch is activated. Please read the warning labels found in this manual. Before handling any firearm with or without a laser, read and understand the entire contents of your firearm and laser manual, especially the safety precautions and procedures for safe firearms handling. Follow all precautions as outlined by the firearms manufacturer. Keep this and all firearm related products locked and secured from children or other unauthorized users. Safety glasses are recommended during all steps of assembly and disassembly. Always make sure the weapon is clear and safe before attempting to install or uninstall your laser or making adjustments or changing laser batteries. Never put your hand in front of the muzzle of a firearm. Always keep your finger away from the trigger until you are ready to fire. Test your LaserMax laser periodically during periods of non-usage to ensure adequate battery levels. LaserMax, Inc. encourages the user of the firearm to install the sight. The Guide Rod Laser becomes an integral part of the firearm, and the user should become familiar with its installation and use as with the rest of the firearm. Initial Inspection If the shipping package is severely damaged, notify the carrier immediately for insurance purposes. Installation The LaserMax Guide Rod Laser is designed to be used with the Beretta or Taurus firearm. Lubricate your pistol exactly as described in the current version of the Beretta or Taurus Owner s Manual. Excessive or inadequate lubrication can interfere with the proper function of both the firearm and the Guide Rod Laser. Installing your LaserMax Guide Rod Laser Slide the factory recoil spring onto the Guide Rod Laser making sure the accuracy washer is in place on the guide rod. With the short legs of the battery cap facing the barrel, firmly grasp the battery cap and insert the assembly into the slide while pushing forward and down. When installing the Guide Rod Laser, be sure that the legs on the battery cap of the Guide Rod Laser rests centered and flat against the bottom of the front barrel lug as shown in figure &. With the magazine still removed, reassemble the slide to the frame. Pull the slide ¼ past the barrel locked position and rotate the disassembly latch to the horizontal position as shown in figure. If resistance is felt during assembly, do not force. Remove the slide, ensure that the cap and short legs are positioned as required, then attempt assembly again. Cycle the slide fully several times allowing the slide to go forward under full pressure of the recoil spring to make sure that the Guide Rod Laser is seated in the frame. That s it! Now test your new LaserMax Guide Rod Laser. OPERATION Point the pistol in a safe direction. To activate the laser, push in the disassembly latch/laser switch pin with your trigger finger until a click is felt. A red indication mark will be visible from the opposite side. The laser should be projecting a pulsing red beam that closely matches the factory open sight. Turn the laser sight off by recentering the disassembly latch/laser switch, pressing in the opposite direction until the red on indicator is no longer visible. Pressing the disassembly latch/laser switch further will turn the sight on again and expose the red on indicator. Field Strip Your Firearm Please refer to your BereTta or Taurus owners manual for instructions on field stripping and firearms safety. Removing Factory Disassembly Latch Hold the pistol frame in the right hand and with the right forefinger, depress the disassembly latch release button (figure ). Continue to hold this button in throughout the installation of the disassembly latch. With the left hand rotate the disassembly latch counter clockwise until the lever stops. Pull the disassembly latch outward and remove the latch from the frame (figure ). NOTE: You should use the disassembly latch release button and spring provided by the firearms manufacturer and the disassembly latch provided by LaserMax. Install the LaserMax Disassembly Latch/Laser Switch Hold the frame of the pistol in the right hand with the right side of the frame facing upward. While still holding the release button in, place the LaserMax disassembly latch into the left side of the frame and rotate it clockwise until it stops against the release button. Make sure the disassembly latch is under the end of the release button (figure ). The center notch in the laser switch should be centered in the frame before the slide assembly is installed. Removal of the Factory Guide Rod Grasp the recoil spring and with forceful control, slide it forward about ½ and lift it out of the slide. Remove the spring and guide. Place the guide rod in storage. You will be using the factory spring with the Guide Rod Laser. Installation of New Batteries Your LaserMax Guide Rod Laser comes with a new battery pack pre installed. Installation or replacement of the battery set is accomplished by removal of the battery cap from the rear of the Guide Rod Laser. Hold the Guide Rod Laser in the left hand, and with the right hand push the cap onto the Guide Rod Laser and simultaneously rotate the cap counter clockwise to remove it. Replace the batteries with a new set with the plus (+) facing out. Now replace the battery cap by aligning painted tab with painted notch on cap (only one position is possible), pressing down and rotating the cap clockwise. Note: Some resistance will be felt rotating the cap until it is locked into position. *See reverse side of this installation guide for reference photos.

The Guide Rod Laser becomes an integral part of the firearm, and the user should become familiar with its installation and use as with the rest of the firearm. Congratulations on your LaserMax purchase! Initial Inspection If the shipping package is damaged, notify the carrier immediately for insurance purposes. This LaserMax Guide Rod Laser is designed exclusively for use with the GLOCK firearm. Do not attempt to install the sight in any other model. Lubricate your pistol exactly as described in the current version of the GLOCK Owner s Manual. Excessive or inadequate lubrication can interfere with the proper function of both the firearm and the Guide Rod Laser. Field Strip the Firearm Refer to your pistol Owner s Manual for instructions on field stripping and firearms safety. Installation Remove the GLOCK slide Refer to your GLOCK owners manual for instructions on field stripping and firearms safety. Remove GLOCK Slide Lock and Spring Tip: Prior to removal, take note of how the slide lock and spring are installed. The LaserMax parts will install in the same fashion. Using the supplied tool, Depress the flat metal slide lock spring down to release pressure on the slide lock as shown (FIGURE ). Remove the slide lock Remove the slide lock by pushing it sideways through the receiver while keeping the slide lock spring depressed. Store factory part for future. Remove the slide lock spring Turn the frame upside down and tap lightly on a flat surface. The slide lock spring should fall free of the firearm frame. If the slide lock spring does not fall out with the frame inverted, use the installation tool or a pair of tweezers to gently pry the spring out. Store factory part for future use. Install the LaserMax slide lock spring Insert the LaserMax slide lock spring into the slot in the frame. Using supplied tool, push the smooth end of the spring into the channel (FIGURE ). Use the straw supplied to assist in placing the tiny spring into the frame (FIGURE ). Keeping presure on spring, remove the straw. 8 Installing your LaserMax Guide Rod Laser CAUTION: The laser may turn on when installed properly in the slide. Always make sure sight is pointed in a safe direction. Standard and Compact GLOCK: Hold assembled Guide Rod Laser at the battery cap end and insert assembly into slide while pushing front of the Guide Rod Laser through guide rod hole and lower battery cap end down. Note the battery cap s ramped protrusion. When installing the Guide Rod Laser, be sure that long edge of ramped protrusion is facing away from barrel lug and battery cap rests in the halfmoon cut in the bottom of the barrel lug as shown (FIGURE A). SUBCOMPACT** GLOCK & GLOCK GEN: Ensure silver mark on battery cap is oriented toward the scalloped depression in the pistol s barrel lug. Hold the assembled Guide Rod Laser at the battery cap end and insert the assembly into slide while pushing the front of the Guide Rod Laser through guide rod hole and lower battery cap end down into the scalloped depression in barrel lug (FIGURE B). Be sure battery cap doesn t slide off and is centered in the slide. With the magazine still removed, reattach slide to frame. Cycle the slide. Slide lock should return to the top of slide lock notch. If resistance is felt, do not force. Remove slide and make sure that the laser assembly is properly positioned (most common mistake). Attempt assembly again. Fully cycle slide several times, allowing slide to fall forward under full pressure of the recoil spring to ensure Guide Rod Laser is seated in the frame. Compare your Guide Rod Laser to your iron sights to verify proper installation. OPERATION Point the pistol in a safe direction; push in the slide lock/laser switch with trigger finger until a click is felt. Yellow or red dot on the switch will be visible. The laser will project a pulsing beam that closely matches the point of aim of factory sights (you will not be able to see the infrared beam without night vision goggles). Turn the laser off by moving slide lock/laser switch back to center position. Moving slide lock/laser switch to alternate side will also activate laser exposing a colored dot on the switch. No sighting in of the LaserMax sight is required. The Guide Rod Laser comes factory aligned for POA/POI at 0 yards and is guaranteed to be within inch (. inches for sub compact). 7 Install the LaserMax slide lock/laser switch Insert the LaserMax slide lock/laser switch. Refer to FIGURE for proper orientation of part. It is important that slide lock be installed correctly, with colored dots facing backwards towards shooter and bumps facing down. Improper installation will not lock slide to the frame. For the GLOCK 0/ (PRE FG/R ONLY): Install saddle block in the same slot as slide lock spring. Be sure that curved portion is seated against contour of the spring guide channel. Test the action of the laser switch by pressing it toward the center from left and right. Center position is Off. You should feel three () distinct click positions. Center slide lock/ laser switch in the frame before installing slide assembly. Installing batteries and battery cap The LaserMax Guide Rod Laser comes with a new battery pack pre installed. For future battery installations, refer to the following guidelines: STANDARD AND COMPACT* GLOCK: Put your thumb against the ramped protrusion (FIGURE A) on the battery cap and pop off. Insert LaserMax battery pack into battery compartment with flat side (+) facing out. Rear of laser tube has a notch that aligns with a key on the cap. Put key a quarter turn from the notch. Push in gently and turn to seat cap with the tab in the notch. SUBCOMPACT** GLOCK & GLOCK GEN: Slide cap off of the end (FIGURE B). Insert one new LaserMax battery pack into battery compartment with flat side (+) facing out. Depress battery pack below surface of the battery compartment with a fingernail while sliding cap into position (note the notch in the tube and silver mark on the cap). Initial Inspection If the shipping package is severely damaged, notify the carrier immediately for insurance purposes. Installation The LaserMax Guide Rod Laser is designed to be used with the Springfield Armory firearm, lubricated exactly as described in the current version of the Springfield Armory Owner s Manual. Excess lubricant can interfere with the proper function of both the firearm and the Guide Rod Laser, as can inadequate lubricant. Field Strip Your Firearm Please refer to your SPRINGFIELD Armory owners manual for instructions on field stripping and firearms safety. Remove Factory Takedown Lever Removing the factory lever and installing ours both require substantial force. TOOLS SHOULD NOT BE USED. Remove the factory takedown lever from frame by twisting it counter-clockwise while pulling the lever away from the frame until switch pulls out (figure ). Store with factory guide rod for future use. Install the LaserMax Takedown Lever/Activation Switch Insert the LaserMax lever/switch with the flag pointing at the :00 position. Firmly push in towards the frame while twisting counter-clockwise to :00, then to 9:00, then back to :00 and push in on switch to lock it in and make it flush with the frame (figure ). The XDM. takedown activation switch will click into position when properly seated. The XD will seat itself when properly installed. Test the action of the new laser switch. For the XD, push the switch in towards the frame. There will be a click felt when the switch is in the on position. Test both directions as the switch is ambidextrous. For the XDM., rotate the teardrop shaped lever 90. You will feel a distinct click when the lever has been properly rotated. Installing your LaserMax Guide Rod Laser CAUTION: The laser may turn on when installed properly in the slide. Always make sure the sight is pointed in a safe direction. To avoid improper laser seating, put the slide upside down on a flat surface when installing your Guide Rod Laser. Remove the factory guide rod and store for future use. XDM. Insert recoil spring provided into circular opening in the front of the slide. Next, insert the LaserMax Guide Rod Laser into the opposite end of the spring with engraved text facing up away from barrel. Applying forward pressure to compress spring, seat round side of battery cap marked with barrel (arrows point toward barrel) in the crescent notch of barrel lug. The flat cap top should be centered and parallel with flat top of the lug (figure ). XD Firmly grasp the assembled sight by the battery cap and insert the assembly into the slide while pushing forward and down. The battery contact on the battery cap is slightly off center. The square side of the battery cap closest to the contact should be away from the barrel (figure ). Seat the Guide Rod Laser all the way down on the barrel, as you would the factory guide rod. XDM. / XD With the magazine still removed, reassemble the slide to the frame by pulling the slide to the rear. Rotate the takedown lever to return it to the horizontal position and release the slide stop lever. Cycle the action. The slide lock should return to the top of the slide lock notch. If resistance is felt during assembly, do not force. Remove the slide and make sure that the laser assembly is positioned as required, then attempt assembly again. Cycle the slide fully several times allowing the slide to go forward under full pressure of the recoil spring to make sure that the sight is seated in the frame. Compare your laser sight to your iron sights to insure proper installation. That s it! Now test your new LaserMax Guide Rod Laser. OPERATION XDM. Rotate the teardrop shaped switch 90 clockwise on the takedown lever located on the left side of the firearm to turn laser on. Notice: The red dot on the switch indicates the laser is on. Note: the laser sight should be projecting a pulsating red beam that closely matches the Point of Aim (POA) of the factory open sights. Rotate the teardrop shaped switch 90 counterclockwise, back to the orginal position to turn laser off. XD Push in the takedown lever/laser switch with the trigger finger until a click is felt. The red mark on the switch will be visible. Your Guide Rod Laser is factory aligned and no further alignment is needed. Your point of bullet impact should be within ½ of your point of laser aim at 0 yards. Installing batteries and battery cap XDM. Gently pop the cap off the laser tube to expose the batteries. Replace batteries with a new set. Make sure the flat inscribed end (+) of the batteries is facing toward you. With the recessed notch on the laser tube at the :00 position, place the battery cap raised notch at the 9:00 position, insert the opposite end of the cap into the battery compartment first. Then push in while twisting the cap clockwise and you will feel the cap snap into place and seat. The cap will lay flush to the tube. If a gap exists, the O-ring did not seat properly. Remove the cap and perform above step again. XD Slide cap off of the end. Insert a new LaserMax battery pack into the battery compartment with the flat side (+) facing out of the tube. Slide the battery cap back onto the tube. The word BARREL is engraved on both the laser tube and the cap with indicating arrows. The arrows on the tube and cap must point the same way. Incorrect installation will cause significant alignment error between the lasers point of aim and the bullet s point of impact. Be sure the gold plated battery contact is pressed firmly into its recess on the mating side of the cap. Hold the battery pack below the surface of the battery compartment with a fingernail while sliding the cap into position.

Troubleshooting Review installation instructions and install a second time to eliminate human error. Pull slide back and allow it to slam forward two or three times to ensure contact. Check batteries. Is the + side up? Are they clean and free from oil? If using loose batteries, is the + side up on all of them? Check the battery cap. Is there a gold contact pin? Is the slide lock/laser switch installed correctly? Excessive lubricant can insulate the gun parts and break the circuit.
