DESCRIPTION : The cutter suction dredger "Cornelis" has originally been built as a dismountable cutter suction dredger with tilting spud poles at the port and stb. aft corners of the pontoon. In 1998 the owner added a barge loading and sand sieve installation and converted the cutter suction dredger into a suction dredger by fitting a jet pump instead of the cutter head and fitting a long suction pipe. This enabled the vessel to dredge from 22 m depth. Barges could be loaded at port and stb. sides and a double deck sand sieve installation was also installed. This equipment has been removed in a later stage and is now stored ashore. The dismountable concept of the dredger has been left in 2007 and changed for the better into a mono hull system. The "Cornelis" consists of 1 main engine room, with forward a pump room and aft a main generator room. The engine room and aft generator room are separated by a watertight bulkhead. At port of the generator room there is the auxiliary generator room. At port and stb. of the central spaces are workshops, stores and bunker facilities. The dredger has anchor booms with Delta Flipper type side anchors, each weighing 2 tonnes. The 2 spuds have a standard length of 11 m normal and can be extended to 20 m maximum length. The centre spud carrier can be moved hydraulically over a distance of 4.2 m. Both spuds are wire controlled. Alternatively the dredger can work on a Christmas tree as well, using the same spud heaving winches and another already installed winch. Forward just aft of the cutter ladder gantry is the elevated and air conditioned dredge control room with all navigational and dredging controls like a dredge computer and cameras for monitoring unmanned spaces. The elevated and air conditioned accommodation, located above the central engine room, has 3 single cabins, a general sanitary space and a dayroom with galley. CONDITION : The main deck and hull above the waterline are fair and well painted. Hand railings, bollards, fairleads and other deck equipment are in good order and well preserved. The central spaces as well as the side spaces, all accessible by stairways, are all in a good condition, well painted without any major indentation or other types of damage visible. The bilges of the generator room, pump engine room and pump room contain some (oily) water, but the other bilges are dry. Apart from some normal oil traces on the Caterpillar D398 engines, the installed equipment looks good, clean and well accessible without traces of corrosion. In 2007 the auxiliary generator and harbour generator were both replaced by John Deere sets and they have only run a couple of thousand hours since. Also in 2007 the accommodation was revised thoroughly by renewing the sanitarian space and equipment, the galley equipment and the wainscoting. The layout is simple but functional. The control house is of a simple layout with partly older type controls and equipment and partly modern equipment like the dredging automation system, PDS 2000.
In 2008 the flexible spud carrier in an extension of the main pontoon was added and appears to be in good condition. Recently an electronic spud carrier position device was fitted. The 3 D398 Caterpillar diesel engines were in 2008 completely overhauled. Hydraulic generators and lines were renewed. Since then the dredger has executed some smaller jobs until the present dredging contract started in October 2014. Hour logs of main engines since last major overhaul show 1,600 hours. The dredger has been dry-docked in 2011 for various smaller hull repairs and renewal of anodes. The jet pump and extension for the suction pipe for suction dredging, with all foundations are present at the premises of the owner. All steel suction and discharge lines are kept in working state by renewal of worn out parts. Steel wires like side wires and spud lifting wires are in a serviceable condition. The vessel was inspected while executing dredging activities in the Eemshaven, the Netherlands and appeared to be in a well kept and good operational state. Recently an overhauled side winch generator and motor were fitted. The vessel is equipped with ample spare parts on board and ashore are stored 2 cutter heads and 2 impellers. Overview dredger
