Tighten filter 7/8 turn after initial contact. Kohler, replace the oil filter every 100 hours or every season. Before installing lightly oil gasket with oil. General Service Information 2 Engine Oil Change Interval Honda on a new engine, change oil after the first month or 20 hours of operation and then and then every six months or 100 operating hours thereafter. Kawasaki on a new engine, change oil after the first 8 hours of operation and then every 50 hours or every season thereafter. Kohler on a new engine, change oil after the first 5 hours of operation and then every 50 hours or every season thereafter. Engine Oil Recommendations - Use 4-stroke automotive detergent oil of A.P.I. service. Class SH or SL, SAE 10W30 is recommended for general use when the temperature is between 0 and 100 degrees (F) or select the viscosity based on the air temperature at the time of operation. Clean area around base of spark plugs before removing to prevent dirt from entering engine. Install the plugs and tighten 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn after they seat. (1/2 turn if installing new plugs.) Plugs should be replaced every two years or 300 hours. - Kohler every 2 years or 200 hours of operation, remove plugs, check condition and clean area around base of spark plugs before removing to prevent dirt from entering engine. Plugs should be replaced every 500 hours. - Kawasaki Remove and re-gap every 100 hours. Replace when worn or damaged.
General Service Information 3 FUEL RECOMMENDATION Fuel - For best results, use only clean, fresh, regular grade unleaded gasoline with a pump octane rating of 86 or higher. Fuel Tank Capacity 10 U.S. gallon (41.64 liter). Fuel Filter Inspect the fuel filter every six months or 100 hours. Honda replace fuel filter every two years or 300 hours. Honda fuel filter (Hustler Part Number 785626). (Honda Part Number 16910-ZE8-015). Kawasaki replace fuel filter every season or 100 hours. (Hustler Part Number 068478) Kohler & Carburetor Fixed jet with separate choke and fuel shut off solenoid. ENGINE VALVE SERVICE Check and readjust valve clearance - Honda 18 & 20HP every two years or 300 hours. Have dealer perform this service. Kohler, check & readjust every 200 hours. Have dealer perform this service. Kawasaki clean, lap and adjust valves every 300 hours. Have dealer perform this service. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Starter - 12 volt. Note: Do not crank engine more than 5-seconds continuously. Let starter cool down for 10 seconds between starting attempts. Battery - 12 volt, garden tractor size. BCI group UIR with 225 or better cranking AMP rating. A maintenance free battery is recommended. Charging System Honda 18 & 20HP, 12 volt, 20 AMP, with regulator. Kohler 18 & 20 HP, 12 volt, 15 AMP, with regulator. Kawasaki 19 & 21 HP, 12 volt 15 AMP with regulator. COOLING SYSTEM Intake Screen - Check cooling air intake screen and external surface of engine prior to each use or every 4 hours. Make sure they are clean and unobstructed.
General Service Information 4 AIR CLEANER SERVICE Pre-cleaner Honda check prior to each use. Wash the pre-cleaner and let it dry (DO NOT APPLY OIL TO FOAM ELEMENT) every month or, 50 0perating hours (more often in dusty or dirty conditions). Replace every two years or 300 hours (Pre-cleaner 18 & 20HP Honda Part Number 17218- ZJ1-840 or Hustler Part Number 785618, Honda Part Number 17218-ZA-000). Kohler pre-cleaner not required. Kawasaki clean foam element every 25 hours. More often under dusty or dirty conditions. 19 HP Foam element Hustler Part Number 772111. 21 HP Foam element Hustler Part Number 780155. Paper Element Honda clean the paper element every three months or 50 operating hours (more often under extremely dusty or dirty conditions). Replace the paper element every two years or 300 operating hours. See Honda Owners Manual (Hustler Part Number 785642) or (Honda part number 31ZJ4620-00X31-ZJ4-6200) Paper element 18 & 20 HP Honda Part Number 17210-ZJ1-841 or (Hustler Part Number 785600). Kawasaki 19 HP Clean paper element every 50 hours, more often under dusty or dirty conditions. See Kawasaki Manual 99920-2168-01. (Hustler Part Number Paper Element 772103) Kawasaki 21 HP Clean paper element every 50 hours. More often under dusty or dirty conditions. See Kawasaki Manual 99920-2145-12. (Hustler Part Number Paper Element 601155). HYDRAULIC SYSTEM The Hustler FasTrak is equipped with two Hydro-Gear ZT 2800 integrated transmissions. The integrated transmissions are equipped with bypass valves. Repair should be performed by trained technicians only. Maintain oil level at the full line indicated on the expansion tank. See the Maintenance Schedule in the in the Owner s Manual. Change filter 600976 and oil (20W-50 motor oil), the first 75 hours or one year, whichever occurs first, then every 200 hours or two years whichever occurs first. When changing oil & filter, purging procedures MUST be followed as outlined in Hydro-Gear service manual BLN-52441. LUBRICATION AND MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE Total number of grease fittings on tractor and deck (6). Grease every 50 hours or annually. Tractor - (4) Deck Height Pivot s (2) Gauge Wheel Bearings
General Service Information 5 BELTS Pump Drive Belt Inspect every 6 months or 100 hours and replace if worn or cracked. Otherwise replace every 300 hours or 3 years whichever comes first. Hustler Part Number 600979. Deck Drive Belt Hustler Part Number 781335 (48 deck) or 789388 (54 deck). check drive belt for wear and proper tension every 100 hours or annually. TORQUE VALUES Wheel Nuts - Wheel lug nuts (4-per wheel). Torque to 65-75 ft. lbs. Note: It is recommended that these be checked after the first 2 hours of operation and 100 hours or annually thereafter. Hub Nut Torque 275 295 ft. lbs Blade Spindle Bolts (top & bottom) Torque to 118 ft. lbs. Note: Must be maintained when blades are changed or as needed after blade impacts. Check blade bolt torque prior to each use. TIRE PRESSURE Drive Tires and front tires - 8 to 10 lbs. Check with a gauge annually or every 50 hours.
