INTRODUCTION OPTIONS OPTIONS The Solo 6 Pinpoint and Solo 6 options are connected through the electrical panel (behind the cover below the power switch). The option connectors are fitted into the positions on the panel shown in the diagram. Beacon Plate/Plug Kit Shaft Encoder /Product Detector Connectors User Port Cable Assy Alarm Kit Data Entry Cable Assy TP108 1 Option Positions Electrical Panel Note: Details of spare parts are given with each option. Items marked * must be replaced by the specified component see pg. (9). 2077 Issue 5.0 Dec 97 7

OPTIONS SHAFT ENCODER The shaft encoder is fitted to the production line and its rotation follows the line movement. Exact details of both the shaft encoder and its installation depend upon the line. Connection into the printer is to either of the Shaft Encoder/Product Detector connectors on the rear panel of the cabinet. The printer provides a 5V or 12V dc supply for use by the shaft encoder and a 12V NPN open collector input for signals from the encoder. TP108 1 Cabinet Connectors (External View) Pin 5 = +12V Pin 1 = 0V Pin = +5V Pin 2 = Encoder TP6020 1 (Pin = Product Detector) TP7110 1 Shaft Encoder 7 2077 Issue 5.0 Dec 97

OPTIONS Each printed character is made up of a fixed number of strokes. This number must be determined from the type of printer and the message. Examples are as follows: Single print, single space = 6 Single print, double space = 7 Bolderise print, single space = 12 Bolderise print, double space = 1 Double bolderise, single space = 2 Double bolderise, double space = 28 16x10 single space = 12 16x10 double space = 1 16x10 bolderise, single space = 2 16x10 bolderise, double space = 28 16x10 double bolderise, single space = 8 16x10 double bolderise, double space = 56 Calculate the number of pulses required from the shaft encoder (to within 10%) as follows. Determine the number of strokes per character N. Determine the pitch of the characters P. This is the distance from the front edge of one character to the front edge of the next character, in millimetres. Determine the distance the product moves in one revolution of the encoder D, in millimetres. Calculate: Required pulses per revolution = D x N P Thus, for example: To print bolderise print, single space (i.e. N = 12), at mm character pitch with the product moving 180mm per rev. of the shaft encoder: Required shaft encoder output = 180 x 12 = 720 pulses per revolution. Domino would normally provide advice on an appropriate encoder. 2077 Issue 5.0 Dec 97 7 5

OPTIONS ALARM KIT The alarm kit connects a set of contacts indicating the printer status to a 12 pin Trident connector (see diagram) in the external connection compartment, making them available for external use. The contacts are isolated from the printer circuits, but are operated by the same alarm functions i.e. Red channel there is a fault, printer has stopped. Amber or blue channel printer (still printing) requires attention. Green channel printer satisfactory and printing (or ready to print). Each contact channel is rated at 25V ac (50V dc) maximum, non inductive load and is protected by a 1A fuse. The alarm kit also includes a socket for the external cabling. Install the alarm kit as follows. The printer must be shut down and the power removed. 1. Open the lower door and swing open the ink chassis. 2. Remove the cover over the external connections compartment.. Inside the compartment, remove the alarm connector blanking plate from the electrical panel (for the correct plate, refer to pg. 7 ). Discard the plate but retain the fixing screws.. Fit the plate carrying the alarm connector to the rear of the electrical panel using the retained fixing screws. Use the screw supplied with the kit to secure the pillar supporting the PCB. 5. Open the upper door and carefully pull out the electronics rack. 6. Feed the alarms connector cable up into the electronics compartment, following the main pump power cable through the same clips. (Do not run the cable next to the ribbon cables as this may result in interference problems.) Connect the 10 way connector on the alarms connector cable into PL (Alerts) on the motherboard. 7. Close up the ink chassis, taking care not to trap any cables. 8. Close up the cabinet. The printer is now ready for use. External connections to the alarms connector must pass through a gland in the cover plate. 2077 Issue 5.0 Dec 97 7 7
