56 STEERING COLUMN VRILE GER RTIO STEERING SYSTEM CLIRTION 1. VGRS SYSTEM CLIRTION PROCEDURE (USING SST CHECK WIRE) Use this procedure to center the steering wheel position if: VGRS actuator has been replaced VGRS ECU has been replaced Steering column or gear has been disconnected Steering wheel is still off-center after completing the "STEERING NGLE SENSOR INITILIZTION" procedures. 1 FCE TIRES STRIGHT HED (CTUTOR NGLE INITILIZTION) Drive the vehicle to confirm that the steering wheel is centered. 2 CHECK FOR DTC (a) Check for DTC. DTC C1515/15 is not output DTC C1515/15 is output Proceed to Go to step 4 3 CTUTOR NGLE INITILIZTION DLC3 D8 TS CG TC 004550E40 Complete steps *1 to *3 within 1 minute. (a) Turn the ignition switch ON. (b) Start the engine. (c) Turn the steering wheel to the center. (d) Using SST (check wire), connect the terminals 12 (TS) and 4 (CG) of DLC3. SST 09843-18040 (e) *1: Connect and disconnect the SST check wire to the terminal 13 (TC) of DLC3 10 times or more within 20 seconds. (f) *2: Turn the steering wheel to the left 180 or more and then return to the center position. (g) *3: Connect and disconnect the SST check wire to the terminal 13 (TC) of DLC3 10 times or more within 20 seconds. (h) Check that the VGRS warning light is ON.

STEERING COLUMN VRILE GER RTIO STEERING SYSTEM 57 Go to step 1 (i) (j) HINT: When the VGRS warning light illuminates, DTC 1515/15 is stored. Disconnect the SST check wire from the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch OFF. 4 CONFIRM STEERING CENTER (STEERING NGLE DJUSTMENT) (a) Confirm that the steering wheel is centered when facing the tires straight ahead. Drive the vehicle to confirm that the steering wheel is centered. Steering wheel is off-center Steering wheel is center Proceed to Go to step 8 5 UNLOCK VGRS CTUTOR Wire Harness Side LGND Do not start the engine. (a) Turn the ignition switch OFF. (b) Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal. (c) Disconnect the V13 VGRS ECU. (d) Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal MV (V13-10) and the negative (-) lead to terminal LGND (V13-3). Do not apply the battery voltage for more than 3 minutes. V13 MV F100671E01 6 STEERING CENTER DJUSTMENT (a) Turn the steering wheel to the center.

58 STEERING COLUMN VRILE GER RTIO STEERING SYSTEM If the spiral cable for the airbag is not centered when installing the steering wheel, adjust the spiral cable to the center (see page RS-253). 7 LOCK VGRS CTUTOR (a) Confirm that the ignition switch is OFF. (b) Reconnect the V13 VGRS ECU. (c) Reconnect the negative (-) battery terminal. (d) Turn the steering wheel to the right and left by about 5 and check that the steering wheel is level. DTC will be detected later if the steering wheel is not turned to the right and left by about 5. Go to step 1 8 DJUST CTUTOR NGLE (CTUTOR NGLE DJUSTMENT) DLC3 D8 TS CG 004550E39 HINT: ctuator angle adjustment is completed by turning the Test Mode ON and OFF. (a) (b) Make sure the ignition switch is OFF. Using the SST check wire, connect the terminals 12 (TS) and 4 (CG) of DLC3. SST 09843-18040 (c) Turn the ignition switch ON. (d) Check that the VGRS warning light is blinking. (e) Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the SST check wire from the DLC3. (f) ctuator angle sensor learning confirmation procedure: (1) *1: Start the engine. (2) *2: Turn the steering wheel from center to the left 90 and then back to center. (3) *3: Turn the steering wheel from center to the right 90 and then back to center. (4) *4: Confirm that the steering wheel is centered. (5) *5: Hold the steering wheel in the centered position for 3 seconds. (6) *6: Perform the following check procedure: Turn the steering wheel slowly to the left. While turning the steering wheel to the left, turn off the engine. Continue to turn the steering wheel slowly to the left for 3 seconds. (7) Repeat steps *1 to *6 15 times.

STEERING COLUMN VRILE GER RTIO STEERING SYSTEM 59 CUTION: DTC C1568/68 requires that the fault occurs 5 consecutive times to set. The confirmation procedure must be performed multiple times to ensure the condition does not repeat. (8) Recheck for DTCs. If C1568/68 is set, repeat the procedure. If C1568/68 is set again, replace the VGRS actuator. END 2. VGRS SYSTEM CLIRTION PROCEDURE (USING INTELLIGENT TESTER) (a) Stop the vehicle and face the tires straight ahead. (b) Connect the intelligent tester (with CN VIM) to the DLC3. (c) Turn the ignition switch ON.

60 STEERING COLUMN VRILE GER RTIO STEERING SYSTEM (d) Perform the steering angle adjust procedure from the VGRS menu. Tester menu flow: F100697E01

STEERING COLUMN VRILE GER RTIO STEERING SYSTEM 61 F100698 (e) (f) (g) (h) (i) (j) (k) (l) Follow the tester prompts to complete procedure. Confirm that the VGRS warning light is OFF. Turn the ignition switch OFF. Disconnect the intelligent tester. Confirm normal VGRS light operation. Start the engine. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to check that it rotates approximately 2.4 turns. ctuator angle sensor learning confirmation procedure: (1) *1: Start the engine. (2) *2: Turn the steering wheel from center to the left 90 and then back to center. (3) *3: Turn the steering wheel from center to the right 90 and then back to center. (4) *4: Confirm that the steering wheel is centered.
