Carburetors for 20-5-2 John Deere Tractors and Engines Marvel-Schebler DLTX Single Induction Carburetors line models a calibrated economizer orifice. On some models, baffles are installed in the bowl vent to keep fuel from splashing into the economizer passage. A full description of the various systems in these carburetors, and the manner in which they operate, is given in Section 10 of this manual. TOOL KIT Figure 20-5-2 illustrates a tool kit available for servicing carburetors. It can be obtained from the Owatonna Tool Company by ordering part number JD94. The kit contains sufficient special tools for servicing these carburetors. DISASSEMBLY Mount carburetor on a carburetor holding device (similar to the one shown in Figure 20-5-3), if available. Such a device will simplify disassembly of the carburetor. CARBURETOR BOWL. With throttle valves in a closed position (Figure -5-4), check for wear on valves and throttle bores. If valves are burred, distorted, or worn, replace valves. To remove throttle valve, remove screws, open throttle wide and pull out valves. Worn valve is usually indicative of worn throttle shaft. Before removing throttle shaft and lever assembly, check shaft for looseness in throttle body. If excessive looseness is evident, it is advisable to install a new throttle shaft and lever assembly and new throttle shaft bushings according to the following instructions. Remove throttle shaft and lever assembly. Remove throttle shaft retainer and packing (Figure -5-5). Note: It is good service practice to install a new packing retainer and packing at time of reconditioning even though the throttle shaft may not need replacing. If the throttle shaft bushings are worn, punch out the throttle shaft cup plug and, using a bushing removal tool (Figure -5-6), drive out the two bushings. Screw idle-adjusting needles with springs out of throttle body (Figure -5-5). 68637 Figure -S-6-Remooing Throttle Shaft Bushings 68638 MAIN FUEL NOZZLES Figure -5-7-Throttle Body and Parts FUEL BOWL.
