3.0 Safety Statements Read, understand, and follow all safety information contained in these user instructions prior to use of the 3M Ladder Kit 3M710/MS 2 -TMK-LK. Retain these user instructions for future reference. Intended Use: The 3M710/MS 2 -TMK-LK ladder kit is intended for mounting a communication line splicing system to a fiberglass extension ladder for communication line work at line working height on that ladder. The product must be setup as specified in the 3M710/MS 2 -TMK-LK ladder kit user instructions. It is intended for mounting 3M Splicing Rigs only. The mounting system has not been evaluated for other uses. To reduce the risks associated with hazardous voltage: Verify communication line voltage prior to work and avoid all contact with high voltage electrical lines at all times. To reduce the risks associated with impact: Make sure that the area below the work location is kept clear of all individuals; Verify that both mounting clamps and web straps are properly attached to the ladder; Do not use this product if any component is damaged or missing. 4.0 Initial Set-up (preferred at ground-level) 4.1 Slide both clamp assemblies on to the ladder bar and lightly tighten clamp assembly allen head screws with 6 mm hex key (provided). Snug in place to fit inside of ladder rails on rungs. 2
4.2 With buckle hooks facing away from ladder, wrap clamp assembly straps around ladder rung and attach buckles to buckle hooks with handle on the inside of the ladder in the open position. 4.3 Snug up clamp assembly straps, and push handles down to lock clamp assemblies and straps in place. 4.4 Loosen allen head screws and rotate ladder bar to position flat side of ladder bar to the flat side of the ladder rail. Tighten allen head screws with 6 mm hex key to lock into position. Set-up is complete. Remove 3M Ladder Kit and place into carrying case. 5.0 Working Against the Strand 5.1 Follow company practice to set up and secure ladder against the strand. Lift carrying case up to work area and hang on messenger strand. Remove ladder kit from carrying case and mount to the ladder rung of choice as stated in section 4.2 4.3. 5.2 Attach the 3M Tube/Tool Clamp A7 to the ladder bar. 3
5.3 Place 3M Splicing Rig with support rod into the 3M Tube/Tool Clamp A7 and tighten securely in desired position to begin splicing. 6.0 Working With a Ladder Sling 6.1 Follow company practice to set up ladder in the ladder sling. Lift carrying case up to work area and hang on messenger strand. Remove 3M Ladder Kit from carrying case and mount to the ladder rung of choice on the side opposite the technician. Position the 3M Ladder Bar above the rung as shown. 6.2 Attach the 3M Vise A5 to the ladder bar on the desired side of the ladder. 6.3 Add the 3M Tube Clamp A4 to the A5 Vise. 6.4 Place the 3M Extended Tube A6L with Swivel/Knob into the A4 Tube Clamp and tighten snugly. 4
6.5 The 3M Tube A3 attaches to the end of the 3M Extended Tube with Swivel/Knob A6L. 6.6 Attach the 3M Tube/Tool Clamp A7 to the 3M Tube A3. Place 3M Splicing Rig with support rod into the A7 Tube/Tool Clamp and tightly secure in desired position to begin splicing.
