abc INSTALLATION, OPERATION, & MAINTENANCE MANUAL ADDENDA 20 MKII LOW TEMPERATURE CELL SAMPLER This Jiskoot Product is designed to provide outstanding service if correctly installed, used and maintained recognising the effects of the process conditions (temperature, pressure, wax/pour point, sediment, etc.). Truly representative sampling of crude oils etc., cannot be achieved by one single product in isolation. A well designed system and operating procedures as laid down in the Sampling Standards ISO 37, API 8.2 and IP Chapter VI section 2 are mandatory. Please consult Jiskoot for further information and assistance. 20 MkII Low Temperature Cell Sampler Introduction The 20 LT Cell Sampler is an adaptation of the standard 20 Cell Sampler with an extended specification to the standard 20 Cell Sampler, designed to obtain samples from pipelines at temperatures from 70 o C to +40 o C. The principle of operation and many of the component parts are identical to the standard unit, the changes being restricted to a special seal in the Bottom Plug and an extension piece to provide thermal isolation between the Cell Sampler Body and the Actuator. 2 Operating Instructions The operation of the 20 LT Cell Sampler is exactly as described in the main 20 Cell Sampler Operating and Maintenance Manual. 20 MkII Low Temperature Cell Sampler The following components on the 20 LT Cell Sampler differ from those fitted to the standard unit: Item No Description Item No Description 3 Actuator Spacer 47 Capture Tube 37 Sample Tube 73 Bottom Plug 38 Valve Stem 78 Special Seal 4 Installation Details The standard 20 LT Cell Sampler is designed to be bolted as a "wafer" between a pair of " ANSI 50#, ANSI 300#RF or ANSI 600#RF flanges and can withstand static pressure testing to full flange rating. Alternative flange sizes and finishes may be supplied to suit specific applications. The axis of the outlet pipe connection should be horizontal or downward facing to prevent water traps. It is crucial that the flow through the bypass loop and cell sampler is adequately mixed in regard to the properties of interest. Where sampling for water content we would normally recommend the minimum flow velocity within the cell sampler and for metre upstream exceed 3.5 m/s (6 m3/hr). The Customer is responsible for the supply of an in-line check/relief valve, rated to suit the temperature of the sample and pressure of the sampling system, to be fitted between the ¼" Swagelok Sample Outlet Port in the Bottom Plug (73) and the Sample Receiver The external Check Valve must be set to either 7 Bar above the maximum operating line pressure for low pressure receiver systems or, with the exception of installations using valves unaffected by back pressure, to Barg where line balanced high pressure sample receivers are being used (i.e. where the sample is being collected at, or close to, line pressure). The outlet of the Check Valve should be connected to the Sample Receiver System via smallbore (¼" or 6mm) stainless steel tubing. Ensure that lengths of tubing are kept to a minimum to minimise "dead" i.e. trapped volume (long lengths of tubing also create extra back pressure and premature seal wear), and that the sample travels downhill at a minimum angle of 5 degrees from the Sampler Outlet to the Receiver to avoid water traps. The sample outlet piping may require heat tracing to prevent blockage. It is the Customer s responsibility to provide adequate insulation around the Cell Sampler Body and Sample discharge pipework to prevent accidental contact by the Operator. To ensure the correct operation of the Sampler, the insulation must not extend over the finned section of the Extension Tube A Sampler Solenoid Valve must be selected to suit the specific application and will require connecting to suitable supplies via glands and cables appropriate to the area classification. Note: The correct rating fuse must be included in the Solenoid Valve supply circuit. A regulated air supply must be connected to the Solenoid and the normally energised outlet connected to Port 'B' of the Sampler. The normally de-energised port of the Solenoid must be connected to Port 'A'. The exhaust port(s) of the Solenoid may be piped away or fitted with silencers as required. (On Electro-Hydraulic applications, the Solenoid is incorporated into the Hydraulic Power Pack.) If required, the bottom port (drain cavity) of the Actuator may be connected to a closed drain or a pressure switch. The Sampler Control System must be capable of supplying a pulse of a minimum 250mS duration to the Sampler Solenoid Valve to ensure that there is sufficient time for the Sampler to complete a full stroke at each actuation (in most systems using air 500ms is normal). The Actuator should dwell momentarily at the bottom of its travel before the Solenoid is deenergised and the Sampler returns to its 'rest' state. Issue No Page 4
20 MkII Low Temperature Cell Sampler 5 Maintenance and Troubleshooting 5. Health and Safety precautions In addition to the basic health and safety precautions described in the standard 20 Cell Sampler Manual, care must be taken to avoid burns from exposed metal work when the sampler is in service. 5.2 Maintenance Maintenance procedures for the 20 LT Cell Sampler are identical to that for the standard unit, with the addition of the special seal fitted to the groove in the top of the Bottom Plug. 6 Recommended Spares List When requesting assistance or spare parts, please advise the Sampler Model and Serial Numbers to ensure that the correct options are supplied.
