To help you make informed decisions about safety, we have provided installation and operating instructions and other information on labels and in this guide. This information alerts you to potential hazards that could hurt you or others. It is not possible to warn you about all potential hazards associated with this product, you must use your own good judgment. INJURY HAZARD Failure to observe these instructions could lead to severe injury or death. Always use extreme caution when drilling on any vehicle. Make sure that all fuel lines, brake lines, electrical wires, and other objects are not punctured or damaged when / if drilling on the vehicle. Thoroughly inspect the area to be drilled (on both sides of material) prior to drilling, and relocate any objects that may be damaged. Failure to inspect the area to be drilled may result in vehicle damage, electrical shock, fire or personal injury. Always wear safety glasses when installing this kit. A drilling operation will cause flying metal chips. Flying chips can cause eye injury. Always use extreme caution when cutting and trimming during fitting. Always remove jewelry and wear eye protection. Never lean over battery while making connections. Never route electrical cables: Across any sharp edges. Through or near moving parts. Near parts that become hot. Always insulate and protect all exposed wiring and electrical terminals. Always install terminal boots as directed in installation instructions. Always use appropriate and adequate care in lifting components into place. Always insure components will remain secure during installation and operation. Always tighten all nuts and bolts securely, per the installation and operation. Always perform regular inspections and maintenance on the winch, winch mount and related hardware. II. Grizzly Mounting Kit Installation 1. Prepare the ATV by removing the top cowl (battery cover) by pulling it up at the rear corners and then to the rear.(figure 1) 2. Installl the power sub-harness (supplied with the ATV) as shown.(figure 2) Figure 1 1/4-20 u-bolts 8mm mounting bolts 3. Install the winch rocker switch to the handlebar using the hardware and bracket supplied with the switch. Kit, Installation continued 4. Route the rocker switch harness to an area on top of the battery and then route the red contactor power wire over to the right side of the compartment. Cut the wire to correct length and crimp a male bullet connector (not supplied ) to the end of the wire and then plug it into the red female connector of the harness installed in step 2. Assemble the contactor to the winch mounting plate using the four 1/4-20 x 1 hex bolts, nuts and washers provided in the winch kit, and torque to 10 ft/lbs.(figure 6 & 7) 6. Install the four 6 gage color coded cables onto the contactor, matching the color coded terminals on the contactor. Attach the blue and yellow cable from the contactor to the winch. (figure 7) Note: Use the (14 ) blue and yellow cable supplied in the mounting kit. The long blue and yellow cables that came in the winch kit will not be used in this installation. Kit, Installation continued 7. Install the winch onto the mounting plate using the four 5/16-18 hex bolts and lockwasher provided in the winch kit, torque to 19 ft/lbs. (figure 8) 8. Install the fairlead onto the front mounting tabs on the winch mounting kit using the two 3/8-16 hex bolts and nuts, torque to 33 ft/lbs. (figure 8) Install the hook using the pin and cotter pin supplied with the winch. 9. Locate the front mounting locations on the front frame tubes of the Grizzly. (figure 9) 10. Place the mounting plate into position on the ATV. (figure 10) 11. Attach the front of the mounting plate with the two M10 X 1.25 X 16mm hex flange head bolts, and two M10 X 1.25 hex flange head nuts, finger tighten at this time. (figure 10) 12. Attach the rear of the mounting plate with the two M10 X 1.25 X 16mm hex flange head bolts (figure 10). Tighten all four mounting bolts at this time to 35 ft/lbs. 13. Route the black and red battery winch wires up the left side of the frame and into the battery area. At the same time, route the rocker switch harness down beside the battery winch wires and plug the connectors into the contactor connectors. Gather all wires and cable tie them neatly away form any moving suspension parts or any sharp edges. Figure 8 Figure 9 Mounting Locations Tighten all nuts and bolts securely. Failure to check all nuts and bolts prior to use can result in product failure which can lead to vehicle damage and operator injury or death. III. Maintenance/Care Inspect all metal parts on the winch, winch mount, and related hardware. Replace all that appears rusted or deformed prior to use. Inspect all nuts and bolts on the winch, winch mount, and related hardware prior to each use. Tighten all nuts and bolts that appear to be loose.
