Application Leaflet March 2013 Rheology leadership plus so much more... THIXATROL PRO Key Benefits Superior sag resistance Excellent overcoatability Excellent humidity and salt-spray resistance New organic thixotrope for ultra thick protective coatings Innovation Compliance High Performance
Introduction is a 100% active, seeding resistant organic thixotrope based on proprietary diamide chemistry. It provides viscosity, thixotropy and sag control in non-aqueous protective coating systems. Specifically developed to provide sag resistance for thick, highly protective coatings, it also shows the following benefits: Key Benefits Provides excellent sag resistance Provides stable viscosity control Imparts thixotropic flow behaviour Excellent storage stability Provides superior anti-settling behaviour Offers excellent re-coatability No negative influence on corrosion and humidity resistance Highly resistant to seeding Minimized false body effects (may be packed hot) Amide - Product positioning Polyurethane Top-Coat THIXATROL PRO Industrial Alkyds 5 4 3 2 1 0 2K-Epoxy High build THIXATROL MAX Epoxy Primer (The higher the value, the better the performance) Chemical and Physical Data Composition Colour / Form Proprietary diamide chemistry Off white finely divided powder Melting Point ( C) 120-130 Levels of Use Typical levels of use for effective flow and antisettling control range from 0.5% to 2.0% of the total system weight. The optimum level of THIXATROL PRO will vary depending on the type of system. When formulating a new system, a loading ladder study is recommended to determine the precise level of additive needed. As with all new additives it is recommended to evaluate the full paint performance carefully. Incorporation requires a specific processing temperature and dwell time in order to develop its optimum rheological efficiency. For complete activation, it is advised to introduce at the beginning of the manufacturing process in order to obtain sufficient wetting and dwell time. THIXATROL PRO will benefit from the temperature developed during the pigment dispersion phase to ensure maximum performance. The excellent seed-resistance of THIXATROL PRO rheological additive allows for flexible paint manufacturing. 2

Excellent humidity and salt-spray resistance Humidity resistance after 500 hours exposure Humidity and salt-spray resistance were tested for the high build 2K-Epoxy formulation. had no negative influence on the coating properties when panels were exposed to 500 hours with 100% humidity (see left) or 500 hours salt-spray (see below). Gloss did not change and there was no loss of adhesion. Blister formation was negligable.
