The sensitivity factors (S i ) were calculated according to the Eq. (S1), where C IS is the concentration of the internal standard (100 mg L -1 of gallium), N i is the net pulse number of counts in the measured spectrum of the analyte (counts), S IS is the relative sensitivity of the internal standard element (1 by convention) N IS is the net pulse number in the measured spectrum of the internal standard (counts) and C i is the measured concentration of the analyte The input data came from measuring 10 calibration solutions in duplicate, which were equally prepared two by two; i.e., five different calibration points. These calibration solutions consisted of multi-element standards containing in all the solutions 100 mg L -1 of gallium and in each one of the calibration solutions 5, 15, 50, 100 or 200 mg L -1, respectively. Therefore, the calculated S i were obtained by a 4-data average for each five calibration point. All measurements lasted for 1000 s. S i = C IS N i S IS N IS C i As part of the calibration, the elemental concentrations obtained after measuring (C i ) were normalized (C Ni ) by dividing them by a correction factor, calculated as the average concentration of the analyte measured in the corresponding blanks (C B ) divided by the calculated theoretical concentration of the analyte (C T,B ) (Eq. S2). C Ni = C i C B CT,B S-2
