MULTI-VOLTAGE SMT CIRCUITRY TECHNOLOGY allows voltage operation of AC and DC voltage, 12-230 VAC and 12-34 VDC (50-60 Hz) Integrated emergency valve handle allows a 1 minute switch over to manual operation Handle incorporates socket wrench for servicing BACKWASH CYCLE RELEASE can be initiated with the following standard installed devices: A Pressure sensing in system 6-95 psi Installed pressure tube Connected to electronic transmitter board Adjustable with circuit board mounted pressure selector switch Green pressure sensing LED for visual activation confirmation B Remote activation by other controller: An integrated external cycle start option allows other equipment such as controllers, manual switches, relays, etc. to start the backwash cycle. Closing a provided 6 VDC control circuit on the circuit board will initiate cycle start
C Timer controlled C1 Digital time clock for flexible time controlled backwash releases (up to 25 cycles per day, minimum one per week!) Timer has a battery powered back up power supply. C2 Basic switch timer with 3 release settings: daily, weekly, bi-weekly Off 3 Days 7 Days 14 days Digital time clock Dip switch timer D Pushing the test button on the Touch Pad switch face test button with LED light TIMING OF BACKWASH, RINSE, FIREMAN DELAY duration can be easily field adjusted with board mounted analog dial timers Back wash duration: 50 sec to 9 min Rinse duration: 25 sec to 200 sec Fireman delay duration: 20 sec to 25 min Fireman delay (20 sec to 25 min) is typically used to shut heaters down when the Aquastar controller receives the signal to go into back wash mode. The integrated relay signal will shut down the heater (if connected to the Aquastar relay). That delay time will allow the heater pipes to cool off before the system goes into back wash mode. It is also used to switch on/off chemical feed pumps for duration of backwash and rinse action (thru terminals 21-22). EXTERNAL TOUCH PAD FUNCTIONS provided by a water and steam tight membrane touch pad switch panel with LED indicator lights Touch Pad functions: Test Button: will start a back wash cycle upon being switched on ON: will switch control circuits on OFF: will switch control circuits off DRAIN: will make system go into drain position for lowering water levels and/or for vacuuming direct to waste Press Drain and Test simultaneously for 5 seconds will start the actuator to move into Recirculation position which is a filter bypass position. This is typically used for servicing or troubleshooting.
RELIABILITY BY 25 PLUS YEARS field tested circuitry and mechanical components: A Inductive sensors on circuit board precisely sense actuator positions. B Heavy duty drive train motor with steel gear drive and permanently lubricated high strength thermo set gear. Inductive sensor Motor C Permanently self lubricated thermo set main gear with lifting track perfectly centered on stainless steel ball bearings Main gear Lifting track in main gear for roller bearings of lifting cam Lifting cam with three roller bearings and magnetic indicator D Spring cushioned pressure flex compensation. Stainless steel springs compensate for the possible flexing of the valve cover in higher pressure applications and guarantee mechanical stress free operation of the actuator drive unit. Stainless steel springs PUMP INTERLOCK LOGIC The Aquastar controller requires that pump is interlocked at all times through provided relay contacts #13 and #14. An internal mechanical pump limit switch will release the signal for the main pump control circuits upon actuator travel completion. That switch will also interrupt the pump control circuit during actuator travel. Integrated control logic and provided relay contact allow for external 3 way valve or by pass valve controls if the main filter pump cannot be switched off at all. Pump limit switch activated by cam or gear (not shown) VISUAL ACTUATOR POSITION INDICATION for all positions Filter Waste Backwash Recirculate Rinse Drain

It shows the switching state of relay during entire backwash cycle. ROW B: SPDT relay state during entire back wash cycle. This is typically used to control 3-Way valves. ROW C: Relay terminals 26-27 are closed on the backwash position. It is therefore ideally suited for controlling extra equipment in backwash position only. ROW D: Relay terminals 24-25 are closed in RINSE position. It is therefore ideally suited for controlling auxiliary equipment in Rinse position only. ROW E: Relay terminals 29-30 are normally open. These relay contacts are N/C only in RECIRCULATION (FILTER BYPASS mode) positions. ROW F: Relay terminals 31-32 are normally open. These relay contacts are only closed in the DRAIN position. ROW G: Relay terminals 21-22 are normally open. These contacts are N/C in filter mode. This relay is typically used to control pool heater shut down. ROW H: The sequencing relay terminals of relay 19/20/18 which is a SPDT relay, is typically used for multiple valve sequencing such as initiating a secondary Aquastar controller to start a backwash cycle after the present valve has completed it's cycle. Column 1: Switching positions of all relays while the actuator is receiving the signal from either a pressure switch or other sources (timers) to start the backwash cycle. Column 2: Switching positions of all relays while the internal fireman delay timer (20 sec to 25 min) is counting down to zero to release the cycle start. Column 3: Switching positions of all relays when the cycle start signal is being released in the controllers electronics. A 30 second start delay holds back the motors from moving at this point. Column 4: Switching positions of all relays while the actuator is travelling from FILTER position to BACKWASH position. 25 second duration. Column 5-9: Shows rest of automatic cycle.
