Installation Guide Blackhawk G4 and G5 hardware variants, for passenger vehicles, vans and light trucks Your installation kit should include the following items: 1
Before you begin: Please note down the serial number of the device you are about to install into the vehicle. You will need this number to complete the installation, however once the device has been installed, it is difficult to see the number. Use the space provided on the back page of this instruction manual to record this number. The serial number is a six-digit number at the front of the device on the sticker next to the QR code. It is in the format: G5-52XXXX G4-42XXXX 2
What you will need: 1. Soldering iron and solder 2. Crimping pliers and various connectors 3. Minimum 1.25mm thickness extension wire 4. High tensile strength, 4-5mm wide cable ties 5. Prolan, liquid tape or similar must be applied to any bare connections such as the new earth bolt. 6. Electric tape 7. Screwdriver kit, drill kit and other basic workshop tools 8. Cellular coverage for the device activation process, where the vehicle has a direct view to the sky. The device cannot be activated successfully if the vehicle is in an indoor environment. 3
Mounting location of the device: The device needs to be mounted away from metallic components to mitigate any RF interference. The mounting location needs to allow the device to receive adequate signal. It is imperative that the device, once installed, is firmly and rigidly mounted and cabled tied down to the base of its installation location such that it will not move around during operation of the vehicle. The base of the unit must sit as flat as possible, and the top surface of the device which bears the Blackhawk name and logo must face the sky. There must only be plastic or glass above the device in its final mounted position. Any metallic shielding above the device in its final mounted position will hinder RF performance. Our preferred location would be inside the dash, behind the various gauges: 4
Wiring into the vehicle with the Blackhawk cable: The Blackhawk cable has six inputs: IGN (ignition) PWR (Power) GND (Ground) IMMO C and IMMO NC (immobiliser wires) DOOR (spare digital IO) Identify the vehicle s ignition wire, power supply wire to the starter motor and a power wire which is constantly powered. IGN from the Blackhawk cable needs to be joint to the vehicle ignition wire (a three-wire join or bridge). PWR needs to be soldered to a constant power wire. IMMO C and IMMO NC from the Blackhawk cable need to join to each end of the starter wire. Cut the starter wire join each cut end to each end of the two immobiliser wires (IMMO C and IMMO NC) from the Blackhawk cable. There is no polarity to observe. Crimp a ring terminal to GND from the Blackhawk cable, and route to a chassis bolt. Please note: on some vehicles you may need to extend the GND wire to reach an appropriate bolt please use extension wire of minimum 1.25mm thickness. The above is summarised in the diagram over page. All joints must be soldered and waterproofed to prevent corrosion. Use Liquid Tape, followed by insulation tape or heat shrink, to waterproof joins. Finally, please ensure all cables are routed neatly and tucked away or cable tied down, where appropriate. Please ensure there are no wires in an extreme bend or stressed situation. Lastly, once the wiring is complete, please remove all identifying labels from the Blackhawk cable. 5

Activation: Now the device should be inside the rubber mount, firmly attached to the car and mounted properly. A. Please take a photo of the device in its final installed position (smartphone photo is fine) and email to support@blackhawktracking.com and reference the vehicle make and model, as well as the customer. B. Please call Blackhawk to activate the unit and complete the installation on 0800 252 254, between 9am 5pm, Monday to Friday. Blackhawk will activate the device, and run through a series of tests to ensure the device is correctly installed. 7
This space is provided for you to record the device serial number: 5 2 If you are unsure during any part of this installation process, please contact us on freephone 0800 BLACKHAWK (0800 252 254). This installation guide is designed to be used by authorised Blackhawk installers only. 8
