Safety and General Information Inspect the package contents upon receipt. Notify the carrier and dealer if there is any damage. Battery safety Overview Before installing or replacing the batteries, remove jewelry such as wristwatches and rings. High short circuit current through conductive materials could cause severe burns. Do not dispose of batteries in a fire. The batteries may explode. Do not open or mutilate batteries. Released electrolyte is harmful to the skin and eyes, and may be toxic. Do not short the terminals of the battery. This may cause battery to explode or cause fire or both. The APC by Schneider Electric flat plate flooded batteries have been optimized for maximum performance when used with APC Home UPS. rb0018a APC Customer Support India Internet http://www.apc.com/support Toll Free BSNL network 1 800 425 4272 E-mail indiainfo@apc.com 2 Care and Maintenance of Flat Plate Batteries

Maximize Battery Life Battery life is directly related to several factors, most notably ambient temperature, number of discharge cycles and "depth" of those discharge cycles. Other factors like age, maintenance of voltage levels and recharging practices also play a part. This information applies to all flat plate and tubular batteries and will help you get the most runtime possible from your Home UPS: Place your Home UPS in "AWAY" mode when you leave for extended periods (holidays, etc.) to prevent unnecessary discharges of your battery during power cuts. Turn off unnecessary lights, fans, etc., during power cuts to help minimize the depth of discharge of your battery - maximizing battery life and reducing recharge times. Keep your battery cool! Keep it away from heat sources like direct sunlight or air conditioning exhausts. Avoid keeping it in areas where temperatures are above 25 C to 30 C. Batteries should be recharged immediately after each discharge and should never be allowed to stay in a discharged state. Water levels should always be properly maintained. Make sure the CHARGER OUTPUT switch (in the rear panel of the inverter) is set to the correct Ah rating for your specific battery. This prevents over or undercharging. Batteries stored for long periods will eventually lose their charge, especially in higher ambient temperatures. Always maintain a full charge on your battery, even when not in use. 4 Care and Maintenance of Flat Plate Batteries

Maintenance Follow the instructions for maximum battery performance: Charge the battery promptly after use. If the batteries are left in a discharged state, the plates will get sulphated. Keep the battery and terminals clean and dry. Apply petroleum jelly to avoid corrosion of terminals. Ensure good ventilation in the room so that explosive Hydrogen gas is effectively removed. A minimum of 10 hours should be available for recharging after a prolonged use. Adjust the specific gravity to 1.240-1.250 and the acid level to the maximum mark level. Fix the aqua trap micro porous vent plugs firmly. Ensure proper cables are used to carry the current required. All connections shall be tight. Recommended float voltage: For applications with infrequent power outages: 13.8 V float. For applications with frequent power outages: 14.4 V for first 4 hours and then change to 13.8 V. Equalizing charge to be given to equalize the cell gravities at regular intervals, preferably once a month at 0.1 C rate and continue the charging for 3-4 hours after gassing stage is crossed. Topping up to be done at regular intervals with battery grade distilled water only. Care and Maintenance of Flat Plate Batteries 5

Warranty Conditions Customer must adhere to the following operating conditions to claim warranty: APC's warranty on APCBAT120AHFL and APCBAT150AHFL batteries, covers defects in materials and workmanship for a period of 24 month + 6* month warranty (*where additional 6 month is pro-rata warranty) from the date of installation or from the date of purchase by the customer. Consequential liabilities will not be retained. APC's warranty on APCBAT145AHFL battery, covers defects in materials and workmanship for a period of 18 month + 12* month warranty (*where additional 12 month is pro-rata warranty) from the date of installation or from the date of purchase by the customer. Consequential liabilities will not be retained. The batteries should be serviced only by the APC Authorized Service Provider (ASP). The liability under this warranty ceases on the transfer of the battery to any party other than original buyer or used for any application other than UPS and on the expiry of the warranty period as mentioned above. If the containers, covers or parts are damaged due to negligent maintenance, or tampering or if these are destroyed in an accident such as fire, wreckage or explosion the warranty becomes void. If the defects are due to a faulty or spurious UPS system, negligent maintenance, incorrect filling and charging or improper handling and servicing of the battery then the warranty is nullified. The battery grade distilled water for topping up should conform to IS 1069. The right to determine whether or not a battery needs repair or replacement rests with the company. In case the battery is replaced, the defective battery being replaced will become the property of the company and no scrap rebate will be given for it. The warranty period on the battery being repaired or replaced shall 6 Care and Maintenance of Flat Plate Batteries

Safety commence from the date of sale of the original battery as stated in the original warranty card and not from the day it is repaired/replaced. The customer copy of the service coupon on the warranty card must be filled in regularly as a proof of regular maintenance. Adjudication and settlement of claim may take some time as the battery has to be tested for the reported failure. Octroi duty or local taxes if any becomes leviable for the battery under repair or replacement and shall be borne by the customer. Recharging is not covered under the purview of this warranty and will be charged extra. In case of requirement of any assistance, customers are requested to contact the APC Contact Center. Customers are deemed to have read, understood and agreed to these conditions at the time of purchase. The warranty is issued subject to the jurisdiction of civil courts at Bangalore. The Serial No. on the battery should match with Serial No. on the warranty card in order to accept claim for adjudication. For sale and installation in India only. The responsibility of battery maintenance (scheduled preventive maintenance) lies with the customer. In the event of missing the scheduled maintenance, the battery warranty will cease. Drops of acid on clothing: Treat with soap and water. Rinse it with large quantity of water before drying.
